Repentance and Forgiveness
“And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you,

und zum HERRN, deinem Gott, zurückkehren und auf seine Stimme hören in allem, wozu ich dich heute verpflichte, du und deine Kinder, mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele,
and return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul,
und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dein Schicksal wenden. Er wird sich deiner erbarmen, sich dir zukehren und dich aus allen Völkern zusammenführen, unter die der HERR, dein Gott, dich verstreut hat.
then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.
Und wenn einige von dir bis ans Ende des Himmels versprengt sind, wird dich der HERR, dein Gott, von dort zusammenführen, von dort wird er dich holen.
If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there he will take you.
Und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dich in das Land, das deine Väter in Besitz genommen haben, zurückbringen. Du wirst es wieder in Besitz nehmen und er wird dich glücklicher und zahlreicher machen als deine Väter.
And the Lord your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it. And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers.
Der HERR, dein Gott, wird dein Herz und das Herz deiner Nachkommen beschneiden. Dann wirst du den HERRN, deinen Gott, mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele lieben können, damit du Leben hast.
And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

And the Lord your God will put all these curses on your foes and enemies who persecuted you.
Du jedoch wirst umkehren, auf die Stimme des HERRN hören und alle seine Gebote, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, halten
And you shall again obey the voice of the Lord and keep all his commandments that I command you today.
und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dir Gutes im Überfluss schenken, bei jeder Arbeit deiner Hände, bei der Frucht deines Leibes, bei der Frucht deines Viehs und bei der Frucht deines Ackers. Denn der HERR wird sich, wie er sich an deinen Vätern gefreut hat, auch an dir wieder freuen. Er wird dir Gutes tun.
The Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers,
Denn du hörst auf die Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, und bewahrst seine Gebote und Satzungen, die in dieser Urkunde der Weisung einzeln aufgezeichnet sind, und kehrst zum HERRN, deinem Gott, mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele zurück.
when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Denn dieses Gebot, auf das ich dich heute verpflichte, geht nicht über deine Kraft und ist nicht fern von dir.
The Choice of Life and Death
“For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off.
“For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off.
Es ist nicht im Himmel, sodass du sagen müsstest: Wer steigt für uns in den Himmel hinauf, holt es herunter und verkündet es uns, damit wir es halten können?
It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’
Es ist auch nicht jenseits des Meeres, sodass du sagen müsstest: Wer fährt für uns über das Meer, holt es herüber und verkündet es uns, damit wir es halten können?
Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’
Nein, das Wort ist ganz nah bei dir, es ist in deinem Mund und in deinem Herzen, du kannst es halten.
But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.
Siehe, hiermit lege ich dir heute das Leben und das Glück, den Tod und das Unglück vor, nämlich so:
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.
Ich selbst verpflichte dich heute, den HERRN, deinen Gott, zu lieben, auf seinen Wegen zu gehen und seine Gebote, Satzungen und Rechtsentscheide zu bewahren, du aber lebst und wirst zahlreich und der HERR, dein Gott, segnet dich in dem Land, in das du hineinziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.
If you obey the commandments of the Lord your Goda that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules,b then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
Wenn sich aber dein Herz abwendet und nicht hört, wenn du dich verführen lässt, dich vor anderen Göttern niederwirfst und ihnen dienst —
But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them,
heute erkläre ich euch: Dann werdet ihr ausgetilgt werden; ihr werdet nicht lange in dem Land leben, in das du jetzt über den Jordan hinüberziehst, um hineinzuziehen und es in Besitz zu nehmen.
I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.
Den Himmel und die Erde rufe ich heute als Zeugen gegen euch an. Leben und Tod lege ich dir vor, Segen und Fluch. Wähle also das Leben, damit du lebst, du und deine Nachkommen.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,
Liebe den HERRN, deinen Gott, hör auf seine Stimme und halte dich an ihm fest; denn er ist dein Leben. Er ist die Länge deines Lebens, das du in dem Land verbringen darfst, von dem du weißt: Der HERR hat deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen, es ihnen zu geben.
loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
