Schon bald schickten die Philister drei Abteilungen von Soldaten in verschiedene Gebiete Israels. Sie sollten israelitische Dörfer ausplündern und verwüsten. Eine Truppe zog nach Norden in Richtung Ofra, in das Gebiet von Schual,
