David Takes Consecrated Bread
Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone and no one with you?”
Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone and no one with you?”
David gelangte nach Nob zu dem Priester Ahimelech. Ahimelech kam David aufgeregt entgegen und fragte ihn: Warum bist du allein und hast niemand bei dir?
David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commissioned me with a matter and has said to me, ‘Let no one know anything about the matter on which I am sending you and with which I have commissioned you; and I have directed the young men to a certain place.’
David antwortete dem Priester Ahimelech: Der König hat mir einen Auftrag gegeben und zu mir gesagt: Niemand darf etwas von der Angelegenheit erfahren, in der ich dich sende und mit der ich dich beauftrage. Darum habe ich meine Leute an einen bestimmten Ort bestellt.
“Now therefore, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever can be found.”
Hast du vielleicht etwas zur Hand für mich? Fünf Brote vielleicht? Dann gib sie mir oder gib mir, was du sonst finden kannst!
The priest answered David and said, “There is no ordinary bread on hand, but there is consecrated bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”
Der Priester gab David Antwort und sagte: Gewöhnliches Brot habe ich nicht zur Hand, nur heiliges Brot ist da; aber dann müssen sich die jungen Männer von Frauen ferngehalten haben.
David answered the priest and said to him, “Surely women have been kept from us as previously when I set out and the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was an ordinary journey; how much more then today will their vessels be holy?”
David antwortete dem Priester: Wir haben uns schon gestern und vorgestern von Frauen ferngehalten. Als ich auszog, waren die Waffen der jungen Männer geheiligt; wenn dies auch ein gewöhnlicher Marsch ist, so wird er doch durch die Waffen geheiligt.
So the priest gave him consecrated bread; for there was no bread there but the bread of the Presence which was removed from before the LORD, in order to put hot bread in its place when it was taken away.
Da gab ihm der Priester heiliges Brot, denn es gab dort nur die Schaubrote, die man von dem Angesicht des HERRN entfernt, um an dem Tag, an dem sie weggenommen werden, frisches Brot aufzulegen.
Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul’s shepherds.
Damals hielt sich dort im Heiligtum des HERRN gerade einer von den Knechten Sauls auf, ein Edomiter namens Doëg; er war der Oberste von Sauls Hirten.
David said to Ahimelech, “Now is there not a spear or a sword on hand? For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s matter was urgent.”
David fragte Ahimelech: Hast du einen Speer oder ein Schwert zur Hand? Denn ich konnte weder mein Schwert noch andere Waffen mitnehmen, weil der Auftrag des Königs so dringend war.
Then the priest said, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you would take it for yourself, take it. For there is no other except it here.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”
Der Priester antwortete: Das Schwert des Philisters Goliat, den du im Terebinthental erschlagen hast, liegt hier, in einem Mantel eingewickelt, hinter dem Efod. Wenn du es nehmen willst, nimm es! Außer diesem gibt es keines hier. David sagte: Kein anderes kommt ihm gleich; gib es mir!
Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath.
David brach noch am gleichen Tag auf und floh vor Saul. Er kam zu Achisch, dem König von Gat.
But the servants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing of this one as they danced, saying,
‘Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
‘Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
Doch die Diener des Achisch sagten zu ihrem Herrn: Ist das nicht David, der König des Landes? Ist das nicht der, von dem man beim Reigentanz gesungen hat: Saul hat Tausend erschlagen, David aber Zehntausend?
David took these words to heart and greatly feared Achish king of Gath.
David nahm sich diese Worte zu Herzen und er fürchtete sich sehr vor Achisch, dem König von Gat.
So he disguised his sanity before them, and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.
Darum verstellte er sich vor ihnen und tat in ihrer Gegenwart so, als sei er wahnsinnig; er kritzelte auf die Flügel des Tores und ließ sich den Speichel in den Bart laufen.
Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man behaving as a madman. Why do you bring him to me?
