Einige Zeit später stellte Gott Abraham auf die Probe. »Abraham!«, rief er. »Ja, Herr?«
Abraham’s Faith Tested
Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called.
“Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”

“Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”
»Geh mit deinem einzigen Sohn Isaak, den du so sehr liebst, in die Gegend von Morija. Dort zeige ich dir einen Berg. Auf ihm sollst du deinen Sohn Isaak töten und als Opfer für mich verbrennen!«
“Take your son, your only son — yes, Isaac, whom you love so much — and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
Am nächsten Morgen stand Abraham früh auf und spaltete Holz für das Opferfeuer. Dann belud er seinen Esel und nahm seinen Sohn Isaak und zwei seiner Knechte mit. Gemeinsam zogen sie los zu dem Gebirge, das Gott Abraham genannt hatte.
The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about.
Nach drei Tagereisen war es in der Ferne zu sehen.
On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.
»Ihr bleibt hier und passt auf den Esel auf!«, sagte Abraham zu den beiden Knechten. »Der Junge und ich gehen auf den Berg, um Gott anzubeten; wir sind bald wieder zurück.«
“Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”
Abraham legte das Holz für das Brandopfer auf Isaaks Schultern, er selbst nahm das Messer und eine Schale, in der Holzstücke glühten. Gemeinsam bestiegen sie den Berg.
So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together,
»Vater?«, fragte Isaak. »Ja, mein Sohn.« »Feuer und Holz haben wir — aber wo ist das Lamm für das Opfer?«
Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”
»Gott wird schon dafür sorgen, mein Sohn!« — Schweigend gingen sie weiter.
“God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.
Als sie die Stelle erreichten, die Gott angegeben hatte, errichtete Abraham aus Steinen einen Altar und schichtete das Brandholz auf. Er fesselte Isaak und legte ihn oben auf den Holzstoß.
When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.
Dann griff er nach dem Messer, um seinen Sohn zu töten.
And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice.
»Abraham, Abraham!«, rief da der Engel des HERRN vom Himmel. »Ja, Herr?«
At that moment the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
»Leg das Messer beiseite und tu dem Jungen nichts! Denn jetzt weiß ich, dass du Gott gehorsam bist — du hättest deinen einzigen Sohn nicht verschont, sondern ihn für mich geopfert!«
“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”
Plötzlich entdeckte Abraham einen Schafbock, der sich mit den Hörnern im Dickicht verfangen hatte. Er tötete das Tier und opferte es anstelle seines Sohnes auf dem Altar.
Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.
Den Ort nannte er: »Der HERR versorgt.« Noch heute sagt man darum: »Auf dem Berg des HERRN ist vorgesorgt.«
Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”
Noch einmal rief der Engel des HERRN vom Himmel Abraham zu:
Then the angel of the LORD called again to Abraham from heaven.
»Ich, sagt der Herr, schwöre bei mir selbst: Weil du gehorsam warst und mir deinen einzigen Sohn als Opfer geben wolltest,
“This is what the LORD says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that
werde ich dich überreich mit meinem Segen beschenken und dir so viele Nachkommen geben, wie es Sterne am Himmel und Sand am Meer gibt. Sie werden ihre Feinde besiegen und ihre Städte erobern.
Alle Völker der Erde werden durch deine Nachkommen am Segen teilhaben. Das alles werde ich dir geben, weil du bereit warst, meinen Willen zu tun.«
And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed — all because you have obeyed me.”
Danach verließen sie den Berg, holten die Knechte ab und machten sich auf den Weg zurück nach Beerscheba. Dort blieb Abraham wohnen.
Then they returned to the servants and traveled back to Beersheba, where Abraham continued to live.
Bald darauf erreichte ihn die Nachricht, dass Milka, die Frau seines Bruders Nahor, acht Söhne geboren hatte:
Soon after this, Abraham heard that Milcah, his brother Nahor’s wife, had borne Nahor eight sons.
Uz, den ältesten, Bus, Kemuël — den Vater von Aram —, Kesed, Haso, Pildasch, Jidlaf und Betuël — den Vater von Rebekka.
The oldest was named Uz, the next oldest was Buz, followed by Kemuel (the ancestor of the Arameans),
