“I will come upon him while he is weary and exhausted and terrify him, so that all the people who are with him will flee. Then I will strike down the king alone,

So the plan pleased Absalom and all the elders of Israel.
Trotzdem sagte Absalom: »Wir wollen erst noch hören, was der Arkiter Huschai dazu meint. Jemand soll ihn holen!«
Then Absalom said, “Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear what he has to say.”
Als Huschai da war, erklärte Absalom ihm Ahitofels Plan und fragte: »Was denkst du, sollen wir so vorgehen, oder hast du eine bessere Idee?«
When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said to him, “Ahithophel has spoken thus. Shall we carry out his plan? If not, you speak.”
Huschai antwortete: »Mir scheint, diesmal hat Ahitofel dir keinen guten Rat gegeben.
So Hushai said to Absalom, “This time the advice that Ahithophel has given is not good.”
Du kennst doch deinen Vater und seine Männer: Sie alle sind kampferprobte Soldaten. Sie werden erbittert kämpfen wie eine Bärin, der man die Jungen weggenommen hat. Dein Vater ist ein erfahrener Heerführer, er wird kaum bei seinen Leuten übernachten.
Moreover, Hushai said, “You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men and they are fierce, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. And your father is an expert in warfare, and will not spend the night with the people.
Wahrscheinlich hat er sich längst in einer Höhle oder sonst irgendwo versteckt. Wenn gleich am Anfang einige deiner Soldaten fallen und es überall heißt: ›Absaloms Heer hat eine Niederlage erlitten!‹,
“Behold, he has now hidden himself in one of the caves or in another place; and it will be when he falls on them at the first attack, that whoever hears it will say, ‘There has been a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom.’
dann bekommen alle deine Männer es mit der Angst zu tun, selbst wenn sie tapfer sind wie Löwen. Da kannst du sicher sein! Denn in Israel weiß jeder, dass dein Vater ein erfahrener Heerführer ist und die besten Soldaten um sich hat.
“And even the one who is valiant, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will completely lose heart; for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man and those who are with him are valiant men.
Darum rate ich dir: Berufe alle wehrfähigen Israeliten ein, von Dan im Norden bis Beerscheba im Süden; dann kannst du ein riesiges Heer aufstellen, mit Soldaten so zahlreich wie der Sand am Meer. Du musst sie aber selbst anführen.
“But I counsel that all Israel be surely gathered to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea in abundance, and that you personally go into battle.
Dann spüren wir David auf, egal wo er sich versteckt. Du wirst sehen: Wir fallen über seine Soldaten her und verschonen niemand, so wie Tau am frühen Morgen auf die Erde fällt und alles bedeckt. Keiner wird mit dem Leben davonkommen, auch er selbst nicht.
“So we shall come to him in one of the places where he can be found, and we will fall on him as the dew falls on the ground; and of him and of all the men who are with him, not even one will be left.
Hat David sich aber in einer Stadt verschanzt, dann sollen deine Männer Seile an der Mauer befestigen und die ganze Stadt ins Tal schleifen. Kein Stein wird auf dem anderen bleiben!«
“If he withdraws into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it into the valley until not even a small stone is found there.”
Da waren sich Absalom und die führenden Israeliten einig: »Huschais Vorschlag ist besser als Ahitofels.« Sie wussten nicht, dass der HERR hier seine Hand im Spiel hatte: Er vereitelte Ahitofels Plan, obwohl er eigentlich der bessere war. Denn der HERR wollte Absalom ins Unglück stürzen.
Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the LORD had ordained to thwart the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the LORD might bring calamity on Absalom.
Huschai berichtete den Priestern Zadok und Abjatar, was Ahitofel Absalom und den Sippenoberhäuptern Israels geraten hatte. Auch von seinem eigenen Vorschlag erzählte er ihnen.
Hushai’s Warning Saves David
Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, “This is what Ahithophel counseled Absalom and the elders of Israel, and this is what I have counseled.
Dann sagte er: »Schickt nun sofort einen Boten zu David. Er soll ihm alles mitteilen und ihn warnen, auf keinen Fall am Rand der Wüste zu übernachten! Er muss unbedingt heute noch den Jordan überqueren, sonst ist er verloren und mit ihm alle seine Begleiter.«
“Now therefore, send quickly and tell David, saying, ‘Do not spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means cross over, or else the king and all the people who are with him will be destroyed.’”
Jonatan und Ahimaaz warteten inzwischen außerhalb von Jerusalem bei der Quelle Rogel, denn sie durften sich in der Stadt nicht sehen lassen. Eine Magd überbrachte ihnen die Nachricht für David.
Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En-rogel, and a maidservant would go and tell them, and they would go and tell King David, for they could not be seen entering the city.
Doch sie wurden von einem jungen Mann gesehen, der gleich zu Absalom ging und es ihm meldete. Schnell brachen die beiden auf; unterwegs fanden sie bei einem Mann in Bahurim Unterschlupf. Sie versteckten sich in der Zisterne in seinem Hof.
But a lad did see them and told Absalom; so the two of them departed quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his courtyard, and they went down into it.
Die Frau des Mannes breitete eine Decke über die Öffnung und streute Getreidekörner zum Trocknen darauf aus, damit niemand etwas merkte.
And the woman took a covering and spread it over the well’s mouth and scattered grain on it, so that nothing was known.
Bald kamen Soldaten Absaloms zu dem Haus und fragten die Frau: »Wo sind Ahimaaz und Jonatan?« Sie antwortete: »Die beiden sind fortgegangen, sie wollten den Bach dort überqueren.« Die Männer suchten weiter. Als sie nichts fanden, kehrten sie unverrichteter Dinge nach Jerusalem zurück.
Then Absalom’s servants came to the woman at the house and said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” And the woman said to them, “They have crossed the brook of water.” And when they searched and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
Kaum waren Absaloms Leute verschwunden, kletterten Ahimaaz und Jonatan aus der Zisterne und eilten zu David, um ihm Bericht zu erstatten. »Ihr müsst sofort den Jordan überqueren!«, sagten sie zu ihm und erzählten, was Ahitofel Absalom geraten hatte.
It came about after they had departed that they came up out of the well and went and told King David; and they said to David, “Arise and cross over the water quickly for thus Ahithophel has counseled against you.”
Schnell brachen David und alle seine Begleiter auf und überquerten noch in derselben Nacht den Jordan. Beim Morgengrauen war auch der Letzte von ihnen am anderen Ufer angelangt.
Then David and all the people who were with him arose and crossed the Jordan; and by dawn not even one remained who had not crossed the Jordan.
Als Ahitofel merkte, dass Absalom nicht auf seinen Rat hörte, sattelte er seinen Esel und ritt in seine Heimatstadt zurück. Zu Hause regelte er noch die letzten Dinge, dann erhängte er sich. Man begrub ihn in seinem Familiengrab.
Now when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and arose and went to his home, to his city, and set his house in order, and strangled himself; thus he died and was buried in the grave of his father.
David war schon in Mahanajim angekommen, als Absalom noch mit dem israelitischen Heer den Jordan überquerte.
Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
Absalom hatte Amasa zu seinem Heerführer ernannt, denn Joab war bei David. Amasa war der Sohn eines Ismaeliters namens Jeter; seine Mutter hieß Abigal, sie war eine Tochter von Isai und die Schwester von Joabs Mutter Zeruja.
Absalom set Amasa over the army in place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.
Absalom und die Israeliten schlugen ihr Heerlager bei Gilead auf.
And Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.
David war noch nicht lange in Mahanajim, als drei Männer zu ihm kamen: Schobi, ein Sohn von Nahasch aus Rabba, der Hauptstadt der Ammoniter, Machir, ein Sohn von Ammiël aus Lo-Dabar, und Barsillai aus Roglim in Gilead.
Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,
Die drei brachten David und seinen Männern Schlafmatten mit, Töpfe und Schüsseln, Weizen, Gerste, Mehl, geröstete Getreidekörner, Bohnen und Linsen, Honig, Butter und Käse sowie einige Schafe und Ziegen. Denn sie dachten: »Bestimmt sind sie hungrig, durstig und erschöpft von ihrem Marsch durch die Wüste.«
