The Priests’ Garments
“Then bring near to you Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the people of Israel, to serve me as priests — Aaron and Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

Lass für deinen Bruder Aaron Kleider anfertigen, würdevoll und prächtig, seinem heiligen Priesteramt angemessen!
And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.
Gib diesen Auftrag an alle aus deinem Volk weiter, die ich dazu begabt und mit Weisheit erfüllt habe. Sie sollen die Gewänder anfertigen, in denen Aaron zum Priester geweiht wird und mir dient.
You shall speak to all the skillful, whom I have filled with a spirit of skill, that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him for my priesthood.
Die Priesterkleidung besteht aus folgenden Teilen: der Brusttasche, dem Priesterschurz, dem Obergewand, dem gewebten Untergewand, dem Turban und dem Gürtel. Diese heiligen Kleidungsstücke sollen für deinen Bruder Aaron und seine Nachfolger angefertigt werden. Dann kann er mir als Priester dienen.
These are the garments that they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a coat of checker work, a turban, and a sash. They shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons to serve me as priests.
Die Stoffe für die Priesterkleidung sind die gleichen wie für das Zelt: violette, purpurrote und karmesinrote Wolle, feines Leinen und Goldfäden.«
They shall receive gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen.
»Der Priesterschurz soll aus Goldfäden, aus violetter, purpurroter und karmesinroter Wolle sowie aus feinem Leinen angefertigt werden, bunt und kunstvoll gewebt.
“And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and of fine twined linen, skillfully worked.
Er soll zwei Bänder haben, die über die Schultern gelegt und vorn und hinten an ihm befestigt werden.
It shall have two shoulder pieces attached to its two edges, so that it may be joined together.
Außerdem soll ein Gürtel daran sein, mit dem der Schurz zusammengebunden werden kann. Er besteht aus denselben Stoffen: aus Goldfäden, violetter, purpurroter und karmesinroter Wolle sowie aus feinem Leinen.
And the skillfully woven band on it shall be made like it and be of one piece with it, of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen.
Dann such zwei kostbare Onyx-Steine aus und lass die Namen der zwölf Stämme Israels darauf eingravieren:
You shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel,
jeweils sechs Namen auf einen Stein, in der Reihenfolge, in der die Stammväter geboren wurden.
six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, in the order of their birth.
So wie man ein Siegel in Stein eingraviert, sollen die Namen der Stämme in die Edelsteine eingraviert werden. Dann lass die Steine in Gold fassen
As a jeweler engraves signets, so shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree.
und auf die Schulterstücke des Priesterschurzes aufsetzen. Wenn Aaron in das Heiligtum geht, trägt er die Namen der Israeliten auf seinen Schultern, und ich, der HERR, werde dann stets an sie denken.
And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance.
Lass außerdem zwei goldene Spangen für die Schulterstücke schmieden,
You shall make settings of gold filigree,
dazu zwei Kettchen aus reinem Gold, wie Schnüre gedreht. Die Kettchen sollen mit den Spangen verbunden werden.«
and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings.
»Lass eine Brusttasche anfertigen; in ihr sollen die Lose aufbewahrt werden, mit denen ihr meinen Willen erfragen könnt. Sie soll kunstvoll gestaltet sein und aus den gleichen Stoffen gewebt werden wie der Priesterschurz: aus Goldfäden, violetter, purpurroter und karmesinroter Wolle sowie aus feinem Leinen.
“You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work. In the style of the ephod you shall make it — of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen shall you make it.
Die Tasche soll quadratisch sein, jede Seite 25 Zentimeter lang; dazu wird der Stoff doppelt gelegt.
Lass die Tasche mit vier Reihen goldgefasster Edelsteine besetzen. Die erste Reihe besteht aus je einem Karneol, Topas und Smaragd,
die zweite Reihe aus einem Rubin, Saphir und Jaspis,
and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;
die dritte Reihe aus einem Hyazinth, Achat und Amethyst,
and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
die vierte Reihe aus einem Türkis, Onyx und Nephrit.
and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be set in gold filigree.
Die zwölf Steine stehen für die zwölf Stämme Israels; auf jedem Stein soll ein Stammesname eingraviert werden, auf dieselbe Art, wie man ein Siegel herstellt.
There shall be twelve stones with their names according to the names of the sons of Israel. They shall be like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes.
An der Brusttasche sollen die goldenen gedrehten Kettchen angebracht werden.
You shall make for the breastpiece twisted chains like cords, of pure gold.
Zur Befestigung dienen zwei goldene Ringe an den beiden oberen Ecken der Tasche.
And you shall make for the breastpiece two rings of gold, and put the two rings on the two edges of the breastpiece.
Die anderen Enden der beiden Kettchen führen zu den goldenen Spangen vorn an den Schulterbändern des Priesterschurzes.
The two ends of the two cords you shall attach to the two settings of filigree, and so attach it in front to the shoulder pieces of the ephod.
Auch an den unteren Ecken der Tasche sollen zwei goldene Ringe befestigt werden, und zwar auf der Innenseite, die dem Priesterschurz zugewandt ist.
You shall make two rings of gold, and put them at the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inside edge next to the ephod.
Zwei weitere Ringe aus Gold werden von vorne mit den Schulterstücken des Priesterschurzes verbunden, an deren unterem Ende, dicht bei dem Gürtel, der den Priesterschurz hält.
And you shall make two rings of gold, and attach them in front to the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, at its seam above the skillfully woven band of the ephod.
Die Ringe der Brusttasche sollen mit Schnüren aus violettem Purpur mit den Ringen am Priesterschurz verbunden werden. So liegt die Brusttasche oberhalb des Gürtels und kann nicht verrutschen.
And they shall bind the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, so that it may lie on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, so that the breastpiece shall not come loose from the ephod.
Wenn Aaron dann ins Heiligtum geht, trägt er die Steine mit den Namen der Stämme Israels an seinem Herzen. So werde ich immer an mein Volk erinnert.
So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart, when he goes into the Holy Place, to bring them to regular remembrance before the Lord.
In der Brusttasche sollen die beiden Lose ›Urim‹ und ›Tummim‹ aufbewahrt werden. Diese Lose zeigen an, was ich für das Volk Israel entscheide; darum soll Aaron sie immer bei sich haben, wenn er zu mir ins Heiligtum kommt.«
And in the breastpiece of judgment you shall put the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before the Lord. Thus Aaron shall bear the judgment of the people of Israel on his heart before the Lord regularly.
»Lass ein Obergewand aus violetter Wolle weben, das der Priester unter dem Priesterschurz tragen soll!
“You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue.
Die Halsöffnung in der Mitte soll mit einem gewebten Kragen verstärkt werden, damit sie nicht einreißt, ähnlich wie bei einem ledernen Panzerhemd.
Am unteren Saum des Gewandes werden ringsum Granatäpfel aus violettem, purpurrotem und karmesinrotem Stoff angebracht und dazwischen kleine goldene Glöckchen, immer abwechselnd.
On its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, around its hem, with bells of gold between them,
Aaron soll das Gewand tragen, wenn er seinen Dienst ausübt. Man soll das Klingeln hören, wenn er zu mir ins Heiligtum hereinkommt und wenn er wieder hinausgeht. Dann wird er nicht sterben.«
And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die.
»Lass auch ein kleines Schild aus reinem Gold anfertigen und die Worte eingravieren: ›Dem HERRN geweiht‹!
“You shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ‘Holy to the Lord.’
Mit einer Schnur aus violettem Purpur soll es vorn am Turban befestigt werden,
And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It shall be on the front of the turban.
so dass es auf Aarons Stirn liegt. Er soll es immer zum Dienst im Heiligtum tragen, weil die Israeliten ein Gebot übersehen könnten, wenn sie mir ihre Opfer darbringen. Doch wenn Aaron mit dem Schild auf der Stirn vor mich tritt, werde ich ihre Schuld vergeben und mich an ihren Gaben erfreuen.
It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall bear any guilt from the holy things that the people of Israel consecrate as their holy gifts. It shall regularly be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.
Das Untergewand soll aus feinem Leinen gewebt werden, ebenfalls der Turban. Schließlich sollst du noch den bunten Gürtel machen lassen.«
“You shall weave the coat in checker work of fine linen, and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a sash embroidered with needlework.
»Auch Aarons Söhne erhalten Gewänder, Gürtel und Turbane, damit sie würdevoll für ihr Amt gekleidet sind.
“For Aaron’s sons you shall make coats and sashes and caps. You shall make them for glory and beauty.
Leg deinem Bruder Aaron und seinen Söhnen ihre Gewänder an! Salbe sie, indem du Öl auf ihren Kopf gießt! Setze sie in ihr Amt ein und weihe sie für den Dienst in meinem Heiligtum! Sie allein sollen mir als Priester dienen.
And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.
Lass noch leinene Hosen für sie anfertigen, die von der Hüfte bis zu den Oberschenkeln hinabreichen, damit sie unter ihrem Gewand nicht nackt sind.
You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs;
Aaron und seine Söhne sollen die Hosen tragen, wenn sie in das heilige Zelt oder zum Altar kommen, um mir zu opfern. Dann werden sie keine Schuld auf sich laden und müssen nicht sterben. Diese Ordnung gilt Aaron und seinen Nachkommen für alle Zeiten!«
and they shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to minister in the Holy Place, lest they bear guilt and die. This shall be a statute forever for him and for his offspring after him.
