Es kommt der Tag, da wird man die Gebeine der Könige und führenden Männer von Juda, die Gebeine der Priester und Propheten, ja, aller Einwohner von Jerusalem wieder aus den Gräbern holen. Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, mein Wort!

Man wird sie ausstreuen vor der Sonne, dem Mond und den Sternen, ihren geliebten Göttern, denen sie gehorsam dienten, die sie befragt und angebetet haben. Keiner wird die Gebeine je wieder einsammeln und begraben, sie werden zu Dünger auf dem Acker.

Die wenigen Menschen, die ich von diesem treulosen Volk noch übrig lasse und in fremde Länder vertreibe, wollen dann lieber tot als lebendig sein. Das sage ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott!«

Warum verlässt dann dieses Volk immer wieder den richtigen Weg? Warum geht Jerusalem ständig in die Irre? Sie klammern sich an ihre trügerischen Götter und weigern sich beharrlich, zu mir umzukehren.

Selbst ein Storch weiß, wann er zurückkehren muss; Taube, Schwalbe und Drossel kommen zur rechten Zeit wieder. Nur mein Volk weiß nicht, welche Ordnungen ich ihm gegeben habe.
Ihr behauptet: ›Wir sind weise, wir besitzen ja das Gesetz des HERRN!‹ Aber eure Gesetzeslehrer haben es durch ihre Auslegung völlig verdreht.

Eure Weisen werden sich schämen und zu Tode erschrecken, wenn das Unheil sie einholt. Denn sie haben mein Wort abgelehnt — welche Weisheit bleibt ihnen da noch?

Darum werde ich eure Frauen anderen Männern geben und eure Äcker neuen Besitzern. Ihr alle, vom einfachen Volk bis zu den Mächtigen, wollt nur eines: Gewinn um jeden Preis! Auch die Priester und Propheten betrügen euch,

weil sie eure tiefen Wunden nur schnell verbinden. ›Es ist halb so schlimm, alles wird wieder gut!‹, sagen sie. Nein, nichts wird gut!

Schämen müssten sie sich über ihre abscheulichen Taten, aber sie kennen keine Scham mehr, sie werden nicht einmal rot! Doch wenn die Zeit gekommen ist, werden sie stürzen; wenn ich sie strafe, werden sie mit allen anderen in Israel untergehen. Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, mein Wort.

Mit Stumpf und Stiel werde ich sie ausrotten, denn sie sind wie ein schlechter Weinstock, der keine Trauben hat, und wie ein Feigenbaum, der keine Früchte hervorbringt, ja, selbst die Blätter sind welk! Darum werde ich Feinde schicken, die ihnen auch das Letzte noch nehmen!
›Warum sitzen wir hier unschlüssig herum?‹, fragen die Leute von Juda. ›Kommt, wir ziehen uns in die befestigten Städte zurück. Lieber sterben wir dort als hier! Der HERR, unser Gott, hat uns ja doch zum Tod verurteilt; vergiftetes Wasser gibt er uns zu trinken, weil wir gegen ihn gesündigt haben.

Wir hofften, alles werde wieder gut — doch vergeblich! Wir dachten, die Wunden unseres Volkes würden heilen — aber wir erleben nichts als Schrecken!

Die Feinde haben bereits die Stadt Dan erreicht. Schon hören wir das Schnauben und Wiehern ihrer Pferde. Das ganze Land erbebt davon. Die Feinde kommen und werden alles vernichten: unsere Felder und was darauf wächst, unsere Städte und ihre Bewohner!‹

Niemand kann mich trösten! Der Kummer hat mich überwältigt und macht mich ganz krank!
Hört, wie mein Volk überall im Land verzweifelt schreit: »Wohnt der HERR nicht mehr auf dem Berg Zion, regiert er dort nicht mehr als König?« Und er antwortet: »Warum habt ihr mich mit euren Götzenstatuen herausgefordert und fremde Götter verehrt, die euch doch nicht helfen können?«

Das Volk klagt: »Der Sommer ist vergangen, die Ernte ist vorüber, und noch immer ist keine Rettung in Sicht!«

Wenn ich mit ansehe, wie mein Volk zerbricht, dann bricht es auch mir das Herz. Ich trauere und bin völlig niedergeschlagen.
