Klagt, ihr Zypressen, denn die Zedern sind umgestürzt, die mächtigen Bäume sind zerstört! Klagt, ihr Eichen vom Baschangebirge, denn der undurchdringliche Wald ist dahin!
Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.
Hört, wie die Hirten klagen, weil ihre saftigen Weiden vernichtet sind! Hört, wie der Löwe brüllt, denn sein Versteck, das Dickicht am Jordan, gibt es nicht mehr!
There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.
Der HERR, mein Gott, sagte zu mir: »Hüte die Schafe, die zum Schlachten bestimmt sind!
Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter;
Ihre Besitzer haben sie nur gekauft, um sie zu töten, und empfinden nicht einmal Schuld; oder sie verkaufen sie und sagen: ›Preist den HERRN, jetzt sind wir reich!‹ Selbst die Hirten haben kein Erbarmen mit der Herde.
Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not.
Ja, auch ich, der HERR, habe kein Erbarmen mehr mit den Bewohnern dieses Landes. Ich liefere jeden Einzelnen der Willkür seiner Mitmenschen und des Königs aus. Das ganze Land werden sie ins Unglück stürzen, und ich werde sie nicht daran hindern!«
For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour's hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.
Da kümmerte ich mich um die Schafe, die zum Schlachten bestimmt waren, ganz besonders um die schwachen und wehrlosen Tiere. Ich nahm mir zwei Hirtenstäbe: Den einen nannte ich »Freundschaft«, den anderen »Gemeinschaft«; damit hütete ich die Schafe.
And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.
Drei schlechte Hirten jagte ich noch im selben Monat davon. Doch die Schafe wollten von mir nichts wissen, und ich verlor die Geduld mit ihnen.
Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.
Da sagte ich: »Ich will euch nicht mehr weiden. Wer im Sterben liegt, soll sterben; wer umzukommen droht, soll umkommen; und die Übrigen sollen sich gegenseitig auffressen.«
Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.
Ich nahm den Hirtenstab mit dem Namen »Freundschaft« und zerbrach ihn. So hob ich das Bündnis auf, das ich zugunsten der Israeliten mit allen Völkern ringsum geschlossen hatte.

And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.

Nun hatte es keine Geltung mehr. Die wehrlosen Schafe, die mir zusahen, erkannten an diesem Zeichen, dass ich im Auftrag des HERRN gehandelt hatte.
And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
Ich sagte zu meiner Herde: »Wenn es euch recht ist, gebt mir jetzt meinen Lohn; wenn nicht, dann lasst es bleiben!« Sie zahlten mir 30 Silberstücke aus.
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
Da sagte der HERR zu mir: »Das ist also die stolze Summe, die ich ihnen wert bin! Wirf das Geld dem Töpfer vor die Füße!« Ich nahm die 30 Silberstücke und warf sie im Tempel dem Töpfer hin.
And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
Dann zerbrach ich den zweiten Hirtenstab, den ich »Gemeinschaft« genannt hatte, und hob so den Bruderbund zwischen Juda und Israel auf.
Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
Nun sprach der HERR zu mir: »Tritt noch einmal als Hirte auf, diesmal aber als nichtsnutziger!
And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.
Denn einen solchen Hirten werde ich über mein Volk einsetzen: Er sucht nicht nach den verirrten Schafen und schert sich nicht darum, wenn sie zugrunde gehen. Die verletzten pflegt er nicht, und er kümmert sich erst recht nicht um die gesunden. Die fettesten Tiere schlachtet er für sich selbst und reißt ihnen in seiner Gier sogar noch die Klauen ab.
For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.
Wehe diesem nichtsnutzigen Hirten, der die Schafe im Stich lässt! Der rechte Arm soll ihm abgeschlagen, das rechte Auge ausgestochen werden! Ja, sein Arm soll verkrüppeln und sein Auge erblinden!«
Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
