And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

An diesem Tag trafen Gesandte aus Bethel in Jerusalem ein: Sarezer und Regem-Melech mit seinen Begleitern. Sie waren gekommen, um den Segen des HERRN zu erbitten.
When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,
Sie wollten nämlich die Priester am Tempel des HERRN, des allmächtigen Gottes, und die Propheten fragen: »Sollen wir auch weiterhin wegen des zerstörten Tempels im 5. Monat einen Fasten- und Trauertag einhalten, wie wir es nun schon so viele Jahre tun?«
And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
Da sprach der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, zu mir:
Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,
»Sag dem ganzen Volk im Land und den Priestern: Schon siebzig Jahre lang fastet und trauert ihr im 5. und im 7. Monat. Doch habt ihr das wirklich für mich getan?
Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?
Und wenn ihr esst und trinkt, tut ihr das nicht auch nur euch selbst zuliebe?
And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?
Schon vor dieser Zeit sprach ich durch die Propheten zu euch. Wisst ihr das denn nicht mehr? Damals lebte euer Volk noch ruhig und sicher in Jerusalem und den umliegenden Dörfern, in der Steppe im Süden und im westlichen Hügelland.«
Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?
»Durch die Propheten schärfte ich euren Vorfahren ein: ›Fällt gerechte Urteile! Geht liebevoll und barmherzig miteinander um! Die Witwen und Waisen, die Armen und die Ausländer sollt ihr nicht unterdrücken! Schmiedet keine bösen Pläne gegeneinander! Das befehle ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott!‹
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:
Doch eure Vorfahren wollten mir nicht zuhören. Sie kehrten mir den Rücken und stellten sich taub.
But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
Sie verschlossen ihr Herz und schlugen alle Worte und Weisungen in den Wind, die ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, ihnen durch meinen Geist — durch den Mund der Propheten — gegeben hatte. Deshalb entlud sich mein ganzer Zorn über sie.
Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.
Weil sie mich nicht anhörten, als ich sie rief, darum hörte ich auch nicht mehr auf sie, als sie zu mir um Hilfe schrien.
Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:
Ich fegte sie hinweg zu fremden Völkern und ließ ihr Land veröden, als sie fort waren. Niemand wollte mehr auch nur hindurchziehen. So hatten sie selbst ihr schönes Land zu einer trostlosen Wüste gemacht.«
But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.
