Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
Mose rief das Volk zusammen und sagte: »Rüstet eure Truppen zum Kampf! Wir greifen die Midianiter an! Jetzt bekommen sie vom HERRN, was sie verdienen.
And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.
Jeder Stamm soll 1000 Soldaten bereitstellen.«
Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.
Da wählten die israelitischen Stämme insgesamt 12.000 Männer aus.
So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
Mose sandte sie unter der Führung von Pinhas los, dem Sohn des Priesters Eleasar. Er hatte Gegenstände aus dem Heiligtum und die Signaltrompeten bei sich.
And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
Wie der HERR es befohlen hatte, kämpften die Israeliten gegen die Midianiter und töteten alle Männer,
And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
darunter auch die fünf midianitischen Könige Ewi, Rekem, Zur, Hur und Reba. Außerdem brachten sie Bileam, den Sohn von Beor, mit dem Schwert um.
And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
Die Frauen und Kinder nahmen sie gefangen, dazu erbeuteten sie die Viehherden und den ganzen Besitz der Midianiter.
And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.
Sie verbrannten die Städte und Zeltdörfer
And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
und brachten alle Menschen, Tiere und den erbeuteten Besitz
And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.
zum Lager Israels in der moabitischen Steppe am Jordan, gegenüber von Jericho. Mose, der Priester Eleasar und die führenden Männer des Volkes kamen ihnen aus dem Lager entgegen.
And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
Mose ärgerte sich über die Heerführer, die den Befehl über 100 oder 1000 Mann hatten.
And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
Er fragte sie: »Habt ihr etwa die Frauen am Leben gelassen?
And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
Dabei sind sie es doch gewesen, die unser Volk mit ihrem Götzen Peor vom HERRN weggelockt haben! Sie waren es, die Bileams bösen Plan in die Tat umgesetzt haben! Sie sind schuld daran, dass der HERR unser Volk so hart gestraft hat!
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
Tötet sie! Tötet auch alle männlichen Kinder!
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
Lasst nur die Mädchen am Leben, die noch unberührt sind. Sie sollen euch gehören.
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Jeder von euch, der einen Menschen getötet oder eine Leiche berührt hat, muss sieben Tage lang draußen vor dem Lager bleiben. Er soll sich am dritten und siebten Tag mit geweihtem Wasser von seiner Sünde reinigen. Das gilt sowohl für euch als auch für die Gefangenen.
And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.
Reinigt auch eure Kleidung und alles, was aus Fell, Ziegenhaut oder Holz ist!«
And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood.
Dann erklärte der Priester Eleasar den heimgekehrten Männern noch einmal die Reinigungsvorschriften, die Mose vom HERRN empfangen hatte. Er sagte:
And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;
»Alles, was aus Gold, Silber, Bronze, Eisen, Zinn oder Blei ist
Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
und deshalb nicht verbrennen kann, müsst ihr ins Feuer halten, damit es rein wird. Besprengt es danach mit Reinigungswasser. Alles andere, das im Feuer verbrennen würde, sollt ihr in Wasser tauchen.
Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
Wascht am letzten Tag der Woche auch eure Kleidung. Dann seid ihr wieder rein und dürft ins Lager zurückkommen.«
And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
»Zähl die Gefangenen und die Tiere, die ihr erbeutet habt. Der Priester Eleasar und die Stammesoberhäupter sollen dir dabei helfen.
Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:
Gib die Hälfte der Beute den Männern, die gekämpft haben, die andere Hälfte dem übrigen Volk.
And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:
Von beiden Hälften sollst du je einen Anteil für mich zurückbehalten. Ich möchte von dem, was die Soldaten erhalten, je einen von fünfhundert Menschen und je ein Tier von fünfhundert Rindern, Eseln, Schafen und Ziegen bekommen.
And levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:
Dieser Anteil an der Beute soll ein Opfer für mich sein und den Priestern gehören; übergib ihn Eleasar!
Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the LORD.
Von der anderen Hälfte, die das übrige Volk bekommt, soll je einer von fünfzig Menschen und je eins von fünfzig Tieren für mich zurückbehalten werden. Gib sie den Leviten, die den Dienst im heiligen Zelt verrichten.«
And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.
Mose und der Priester Eleasar taten, was der HERR gesagt hatte.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
Sie zählten insgesamt 675.000 Schafe und Ziegen, 72.000 Rinder und 61.000 Esel.
And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
Außerdem waren 32.000 Mädchen, die noch unberührt waren, gefangen genommen worden.
And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.
Die Soldaten erhielten von allem die Hälfte, also 337.500 Schafe oder Ziegen, 36.000 Rinder und 30.500 Esel; von den Mädchen bekamen sie 16.000. Dem HERRN überließen sie 675 Schafe und Ziegen, 72 Rinder, 61 Esel, dazu 32 Mädchen.
And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:
Diesen Anteil gab Mose dem Priester Eleasar, wie der HERR es befohlen hatte.
And Moses gave the tribute, which was the LORD'S heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses.
Die andere Hälfte der Beute bekam das übrige Volk, das nicht gekämpft hatte. Mose gab je eins von fünfzig Mädchen und Tieren den Leviten, die den Dienst im Heiligtum verrichteten. So hatte es der HERR angeordnet.
And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,
Die Heerführer, die den Befehl über 100 oder 1000 Soldaten hatten, kamen zu Mose
The Voluntary Offering
And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:
And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:
und berichteten ihm: »Herr, wir haben unsere Leute durchgezählt und festgestellt, dass nicht ein einziger Mann fehlt.
And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.
Wir wollen dem HERRN dafür mit einem Opfer danken und ihm alles geben, was uns an Goldschmuck in die Hände gefallen ist: Armbänder, Armreife, Siegelringe, Ohrringe und Halsschmuck. Wir hoffen, dass der HERR uns dann unsere Schuld vergibt.«
We have therefore brought an oblation for the LORD, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the LORD.
Mose und der Priester Eleasar nahmen das ganze Gold entgegen. Es waren kunstvoll gearbeitete Schmuckstücke,
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
die insgesamt rund 200 Kilogramm wogen. Die Heerführer hatten sie selbst erbeutet.
And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
Auch die anderen Soldaten hatten Gold aus dem Krieg mitgebracht, sie behielten es jedoch für sich.
(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)
Mose und Eleasar brachten das Gold, das die Heerführer opfern wollten, ins Heiligtum. Es sollte ein Zeichen dafür sein, dass der HERR sich an sein Volk erinnerte.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
