In Ikonion gingen Paulus und Barnabas zuerst wieder in die Synagoge und predigten dort so überzeugend, dass viele — Juden wie Nichtjuden — zu glauben begannen.

Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

Dieser Mann hörte Paulus predigen. Paulus wurde auf ihn aufmerksam und sah, dass der Mann glaubte, er könne geheilt werden.
The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
Laut rief er ihm zu: »Steh auf, stell dich auf deine Füße!« Da sprang der Mann auf und konnte gehen.
Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.
Als die Leute erkannten, was Paulus getan hatte, riefen sie in ihrer Muttersprache: »Die Götter sind als Menschen zu uns herabgekommen!«
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
Sie nannten Barnabas »Zeus« und Paulus »Hermes«, weil er der Wortführer war.
And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.
Der Priester des Zeustempels vor den Toren der Stadt brachte Stiere und Kränze zum Stadttor, um den Aposteln zusammen mit dem ganzen Volk ein Opfer zu bringen.
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
Als Paulus und Barnabas begriffen, was sie vorhatten, zerrissen sie ihre Kleider, liefen unter die Menge und riefen entsetzt:
Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
»Ihr Leute, was macht ihr da? Wir sind nur Menschen aus Fleisch und Blut wie ihr. Wir verkünden euch doch die rettende Botschaft, damit ihr euch von diesen toten Götzen abwendet und an den lebendigen Gott glaubt. Er hat den Himmel, die Erde, das Meer und alles, was darin ist, erschaffen!
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
Bisher hat er die nichtjüdischen Völker ihre eigenen Wege gehen lassen.
Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.
Aber er zeigte ihnen immer wieder, dass er lebt; denn er hat euch viel Gutes getan. Ihm verdankt ihr den Regen und die guten Ernten; er gibt euch zu essen und macht euch glücklich.«
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
Mit diesen Worten konnten Paulus und Barnabas die Leute nur mit Mühe davon abhalten, ihnen zu opfern.
And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
Dann aber kamen Juden aus Antiochia und Ikonion. Sie hetzten die Volksmenge gegen die Apostel so sehr auf, dass Paulus gesteinigt wurde. Weil die Leute Paulus für tot hielten, schleiften sie ihn zur Stadt hinaus.
And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
Doch als die Jünger ihn umringten, kam Paulus wieder zu sich, stand auf und ging in die Stadt zurück. Am folgenden Tag zog er mit Barnabas weiter nach Derbe.
Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
Nachdem Paulus und Barnabas in Derbe die rettende Botschaft gepredigt hatten und viele dort Christen geworden waren, machten sich die beiden auf den Rückweg und kamen wieder durch Lystra, Ikonion und Antiochia.

Dort stärkten sie die jungen Christen und ermutigten sie, in ihrem Glauben festzubleiben. Sie erinnerten sie noch einmal daran: »Der Weg in Gottes Reich führt durch viel Leid und Verfolgung.«
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
Paulus und Barnabas setzten in jeder Gemeinde Leiter ein. Für sie fasteten und beteten die Apostel und stellten sie unter den Schutz des Herrn, auf den sie ihr Vertrauen gesetzt hatten.
And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
Dann reisten sie durch Pisidien und Pamphylien

und verkündeten in der Stadt Perge Gottes Botschaft. Von der Hafenstadt Attalia aus

segelten sie wieder nach Antiochia in Syrien, dem Ausgangspunkt ihrer Reise. Dort hatte man sie der Gnade Gottes anvertraut für die Aufgabe, die sie nun erfüllt hatten.
