Wenn du in einen Krieg ziehst wider deine Feinde und siehst Rosse und Wagen eines Volks, das größer ist als du, so fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, der dich aus Ägyptenland geführt hat, ist mit dir.
Principles Governing Warfare
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.

Wenn ihr nun hinzukommt zum Streit, so soll der Priester herzutreten und mit dem Volk reden
So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people.
und zu ihnen sprechen: Israel, höre zu! Ihr geht heute in den Streit wider eure Feinde; euer Herz verzage nicht, fürchtet euch nicht und erschreckt nicht und laßt euch nicht grauen vor ihnen;
And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them;
denn der HERR, euer Gott, geht mit euch, daß er für euch streite mit euren Feinden, euch zu helfen.
for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
Aber die Amtleute sollen mit dem Volk reden und sagen: Welcher ein neues Haus gebaut hat und hat’s noch nicht eingeweiht, der gehe hin und bleibe in seinem Hause, auf daß er nicht sterbe im Krieg und ein anderer weihe es ein.
“Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying: ‘What man is there who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it.
Welcher einen Weinberg gepflanzt hat und hat seine Früchte noch nicht genossen, der gehe hin und bleibe daheim, daß er nicht im Kriege sterbe und ein anderer genieße seine Früchte.
Also what man is there who has planted a vineyard and has not eaten of it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man eat of it.
Welcher ein Weib sich verlobt hat und hat sie noch nicht heimgeholt, der gehe hin und bleibe daheim, daß er nicht im Kriege sterbe und ein anderer hole sie heim.
And what man is there who is betrothed to a woman and has not married her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man marry her.’
Und die Amtleute sollen weiter mit dem Volk reden und sprechen: Welcher sich fürchtet und ein verzagtes Herz hat, der gehe hin und bleibe daheim, auf daß er nicht auch seiner Brüder Herz feig mache, wie sein Herz ist.
Und wenn die Amtleute ausgeredet haben mit dem Volk, so sollen sie die Hauptleute vor das Volk an die Spitze stellen.
And so it shall be, when the officers have finished speaking to the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.
Wenn du vor eine Stadt ziehst, sie zu bestreiten, so sollst du ihr den Frieden anbieten.
“When you go near a city to fight against it, then proclaim an offer of peace to it.
Antwortet sie dir friedlich und tut dir auf, so soll all das Volk, das darin gefunden wird, dir zinsbar und untertan sein.
And it shall be that if they accept your offer of peace, and open to you, then all the people who are found in it shall be placed under tribute to you, and serve you.
Will sie aber nicht friedlich mit dir handeln und will mit dir kriegen, so belagere sie.
Now if the city will not make peace with you, but war against you, then you shall besiege it.
Und wenn sie der HERR, dein Gott, dir in die Hand gibt, so sollst du alles, was männlich darin ist, mit des Schwertes Schärfe schlagen.
And when the Lord your God delivers it into your hands, you shall strike every male in it with the edge of the sword.
Allein die Weiber, die Kinder und das Vieh und alles, was in der Stadt ist, und allen Raub sollst du unter dich austeilen und sollst essen von der Ausbeute deiner Feinde, die dir der HERR, dein Gott, gegeben hat.
But the women, the little ones, the livestock, and all that is in the city, all its spoil, you shall plunder for yourself; and you shall eat the enemies’ plunder which the Lord your God gives you.
Also sollst du allen Städten tun, die sehr ferne von dir liegen und nicht von den Städten dieser Völker hier sind.
Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far from you, which are not of the cities of these nations.
Aber in den Städten dieser Völker, die dir der HERR, dein Gott, zum Erbe geben wird, sollst du nichts leben lassen, was Odem hat,
“But of the cities of these peoples which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive,
sondern sollst sie verbannen, nämlich die Hethiter, Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Pheresiter, Heviter und Jebusiter, wie dir der HERR, dein Gott, geboten hat,
but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the Lord your God has commanded you,
auf daß sie euch nicht lehren tun alle die Greuel, die sie ihren Göttern tun, und ihr euch versündigt an dem HERR, eurem Gott.
Wenn du vor einer Stadt lange Zeit liegen mußt, wider die du streitest, sie zu erobern, so sollst die Bäume nicht verderben, daß du mit Äxten dran fährst; denn du kannst davon essen, darum sollst du sie nicht ausrotten. Ist’s doch Holz auf dem Felde und nicht Mensch, daß es vor dir ein Bollwerk sein könnte.
“When you besiege a city for a long time, while making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; if you can eat of them, do not cut them down to use in the siege, for the tree of the field is man’s food.
Welches aber Bäume sind, von denen du weißt, daß man nicht davon ißt, die sollst du verderben und ausrotten und Bollwerk daraus bauen wider die Stadt, die mit dir kriegt, bis du ihrer mächtig werdest.
Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued.
