Da aber die Leute zu Asdod sahen, daß es so zuging, sprachen sie: Laßt die Lade des Gottes Israels nicht bei uns bleiben; denn seine Hand ist zu hart über uns und unserm Gott Dagon.

Als sie erkannten, warum es ihnen so schlecht ging, sagten sie: »Wir wollen die Bundeslade des Gottes Israels keinen Tag länger bei uns haben, denn wir ertragen es nicht mehr, wie er uns und unseren Gott Dagon quält.«

Als die Einwohner von Aschdod sahen, was geschah, sagten sie: Die Lade des Gottes Israels darf nicht bei uns bleiben; denn seine Hand liegt schwer auf uns und auf unserem Gott Dagon.
