Reuben and Gad Settle in Gilead
Now the people of Reuben and the people of Gad had a very great number of livestock. And they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for livestock.

Die Stämme Ruben und Gad besaßen große Viehherden. Als sie das gute Weideland der Gebiete Jaser und Gilead östlich des Jordan sahen,
So the people of Gad and the people of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the chiefs of the congregation,

“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
»Das Land, das der HERR uns erobern ließ, hat gute Weidegebiete: Atarot, Dibon, Jaser, Nimra, Heschbon, Elale, Sibma, Nebo und Beon. Wir können es gut gebrauchen, denn wir haben viel Vieh.
And they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not take us across the Jordan.”
Wenn ihr es erlaubt, würden wir dieses Land gern in Besitz nehmen und nicht mit über den Jordan ziehen.«
But Moses said to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to the war while you sit here?
Mose erwiderte: »Ihr wollt hierbleiben und eure Brüder allein kämpfen lassen?
Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that the Lord has given them?
Wenn ihr das tut, wird bald kein Israelit mehr in das Land wollen, das der HERR ihnen versprochen hat!
Your fathers did this, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.
Ihr benehmt euch wie eure Väter: Als ich sie von Kadesch-Barnea losschickte, um das Land auszukundschaften,
For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that the Lord had given them.
drangen sie bis zum Eschkol-Tal vor und sahen sich alles an. Dann kamen sie zurück und hielten die Israeliten davon ab, das Land zu betreten, das der HERR ihnen geben wollte.
And the Lord’s anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying,
Darüber wurde der HERR zornig, und er schwor ihnen:
‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me,
›Keiner von euch, die ich aus Ägypten befreit habe, wird dieses Land jemals betreten! Keiner, der jetzt 20 Jahre oder älter ist, wird das Land sehen, das ich euren Vorfahren Abraham, Isaak und Jakob versprochen habe. Ich habe genug von eurer Untreue!
none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the Lord.’
Nur Kaleb, der Sohn von Jefunne aus der Sippe Kenas, und Josua, der Sohn von Nun, werden das Land in Besitz nehmen, denn sie haben mir die Treue gehalten.‹
And the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone.
Ja, der HERR war voller Zorn über die Israeliten. Er ließ sie vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste umherirren, bis alle tot waren, die sich ihm widersetzt hatten.
And behold, you have risen in your fathers’ place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel!
Und nun folgt ihr dem schlechten Vorbild eurer Väter! Ihr lehnt euch wie sie gegen den HERRN auf, ja, ihr macht seinen Zorn nur noch schlimmer!
For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people.”
Wenn ihr ihm den Rücken kehrt, wird er unser Volk so lange in der Wüste festhalten, bis alle tot sind. Und ihr seid schuld daran!«
Then they came near to him and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones,
Die Männer von Ruben und Gad wandten sich erneut an Mose und sagten: »Wir wollen doch nur Zäune für unsere Herden aufstellen und einige der zerstörten Orte wieder aufbauen, in denen wir unsere Familien zurücklassen können.
but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place. And our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
Das wird schnell gehen. Dann werden wir Männer uns zum Kampf rüsten. Wir werden an der Spitze des Heeres in den Krieg ziehen und die Israeliten in ihr Land bringen. Aber unsere Familien möchten wir in befestigten Städten zurücklassen, die vor den Bewohnern des Landes Schutz bieten.
We will not return to our homes until each of the people of Israel has gained his inheritance.
Wir versprechen, dass wir nicht eher hierher zurückkehren, bis jeder Israelit seinen Grundbesitz erhalten hat.
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east.”
Wir selbst aber wollen nicht wie die anderen Stämme westlich des Jordan Land bekommen, sondern hier im Osten unseren Anteil erhalten.«
So Moses said to them, “If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the Lord for the war,
Mose antwortete: »Ich bin damit einverstanden, wenn ihr das tut, was ihr sagt. Rüstet euch zum Kampf und stellt euch an die Spitze des Heeres!
and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the Lord, until he has driven out his enemies from before him
Eure Soldaten sollen unter der Führung des HERRN den Jordan überqueren und nicht eher zurückkehren, bis er seine Feinde vertrieben hat
and the land is subdued before the Lord; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the Lord and to Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.
und das Land für ihn erobert ist. Danach könnt ihr hierher zurückkommen, ohne dass ihr euch am HERRN oder am Volk Israel schuldig macht. Der HERR wird euch dann dieses Land hier zum Eigentum geben.
But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.
Wenn ihr aber euer Wort brecht, sündigt ihr gegen den HERRN, und das wird euch teuer zu stehen kommen. Darauf könnt ihr euch verlassen!
Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do what you have promised.”
Baut nun einige Orte für eure Familien wieder auf, und errichtet Zäune für euer Kleinvieh! Aber haltet euch an euer Versprechen!«
And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben said to Moses, “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
Die Leute von Gad und Ruben antworteten Mose: »Wir gehorchen dir und werden tun, was du befiehlst.
Our little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead,
Wir bringen unsere Kinder, unsere Frauen und all unser Vieh in den Städten von Gilead in Sicherheit.
but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord orders.”
Dann nehmen wir unsere Waffen und ziehen unter der Führung des HERRN in den Kampf, ganz wie du wünschst.«
So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel.
Daraufhin wies Mose den Priester Eleasar, Josua und die Oberhäupter der Stämme Israels an:
And Moses said to them, “If the people of Gad and the people of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the Lord, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession.
»Wenn die Soldaten von Gad und Ruben euch unter der Führung des HERRN geholfen haben, das Land westlich des Jordan zu erobern, sollt ihr ihnen das Gebiet von Gilead zum Eigentum geben.
However, if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
Wenn sie euch aber nicht im Kampf unterstützen, sollen sie zusammen mit euch im Land Kanaan wohnen.«
And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben answered, “What the Lord has said to your servants, we will do.
Die Leute von Gad und Ruben versicherten: »Wir werden tun, was der HERR uns befohlen hat.
We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
Wir werden uns bereitmachen und unter der Führung des HERRN mit nach Kanaan ziehen. Nur möchten wir hier östlich des Jordan unsere Stammesgebiete bekommen.«
And Moses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country.
Da erklärte Mose das ganze Land, in dem vorher der amoritische König Sihon und König Og von Baschan geherrscht hatten, zum Eigentum der Stämme Gad und Ruben und des halben Stammes Manasse. Alle Städte und Ländereien der beiden früheren Königreiche gehörten nun ihnen.
And the people of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
Die Männer vom Stamm Gad bauten einige der zerstörten Städte wieder auf: Dibon, Atarot, Aroër,
Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
Bet-Nimra und Bet-Haram. Sie errichteten Häuser, zogen Mauern hoch und stellten Zäune für ihre Herden auf.
And the people of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
Die Männer vom Stamm Ruben taten das Gleiche in den Städten Heschbon, Elale und Kirjatajim,
Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names were changed), and Sibmah. And they gave other names to the cities that they built.
in Nebo und Baal-Meon, denen sie neue Namen gaben, und in Sibma. Manche Namen änderten sie, andere behielten sie bei.
And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.
Die Männer der Sippe Machir vom Stamm Manasse zogen nach Gilead, eroberten es und vertrieben die Amoriter, die dort lebten.
And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it.
Mose erklärte das Land, das sie eingenommen hatten, zu ihrem Eigentum, und sie ließen sich dort nieder.
Jaïr, ein Mann aus dem Stamm Manasse, eroberte in diesem Gebiet einige Ortschaften und nannte sie »Dörfer Jaïrs«.
