The Plot to Kill Jesus

For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.

Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Amen, ich sage euch: Auf der ganzen Welt, wo dieses Evangelium verkündet wird, wird man auch erzählen, was sie getan hat, zu ihrem Gedächtnis.
Judas to Betray Jesus

And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.

And as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
Und während sie aßen, sprach er: Amen, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich ausliefern.
And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?”
Da wurden sie sehr traurig und einer nach dem andern fragte ihn: Bin ich es etwa, Herr?
He answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me.
Er antwortete: Der die Hand mit mir in die Schüssel eintunkt, wird mich ausliefern.
The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
Der Menschensohn muss zwar seinen Weg gehen, wie die Schrift über ihn sagt. Doch weh dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn ausgeliefert wird! Für ihn wäre es besser, wenn er nie geboren wäre.
Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said so.”
Da fragte Judas, der ihn auslieferte: Bin ich es etwa, Rabbi? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es.

Ich sage euch: Von jetzt an werde ich nicht mehr von dieser Frucht des Weinstocks trinken, bis zu dem Tag, an dem ich mit euch von Neuem davon trinke im Reich meines Vaters.
Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial

Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.”

Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”
Jesus sagte zu ihm: Amen, ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen.
Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.
Da sagte Petrus zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste — ich werde dich nie verleugnen. Das Gleiche sagten auch alle Jünger.

And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”

And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour?

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Wacht und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung geratet! Der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach.
Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”
Wieder ging er weg, zum zweiten Mal, und betete: Mein Vater, wenn dieser Kelch an mir nicht vorübergehen kann, ohne dass ich ihn trinke, geschehe dein Wille.
And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
Als er zurückkam, fand er sie wieder schlafend, denn die Augen waren ihnen zugefallen.
So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again.
Und er ließ sie, ging wieder weg und betete zum dritten Mal mit den gleichen Worten.
Danach kehrte er zu den Jüngern zurück und sagte zu ihnen: Schlaft ihr immer noch und ruht euch aus? Siehe, die Stunde ist gekommen und der Menschensohn wird in die Hände von Sündern ausgeliefert.
Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”
Steht auf, wir wollen gehen! Siehe, der mich ausliefert, ist da.
Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.”
Der ihn auslieferte, hatte mit ihnen ein Zeichen vereinbart und gesagt: Der, den ich küssen werde, der ist es; nehmt ihn fest!
And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him.
Sogleich ging er auf Jesus zu und sagte: Sei gegrüßt, Rabbi! Und er küsste ihn.
Jesus erwiderte ihm: Freund, dazu bist du gekommen? Da gingen sie auf Jesus zu, ergriffen ihn und nahmen ihn fest.
Und siehe, einer von den Begleitern Jesu streckte die Hand aus, zog sein Schwert, schlug auf den Diener des Hohepriesters ein und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab.
Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.
Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Steck dein Schwert in die Scheide; denn alle, die zum Schwert greifen, werden durch das Schwert umkommen.
Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
Oder glaubst du nicht, mein Vater würde mir sogleich mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel schicken, wenn ich ihn darum bitte?
But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?”
Wie würden dann aber die Schriften erfüllt, dass es so geschehen muss?
At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.
In jener Stunde sagte Jesus zu den Männern: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr mit Schwertern und Knüppeln ausgezogen, um mich festzunehmen. Tag für Tag saß ich im Tempel und lehrte und ihr habt mich nicht verhaftet.
But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
Das alles aber ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten in Erfüllung gehen. Da verließen ihn alle Jünger und flohen.
Jesus Before Caiaphas and the Council

And Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end.
Petrus folgte Jesus von Weitem bis zum Hof des Hohepriesters; er ging in den Hof hinein und setzte sich zu den Dienern, um zu sehen, wie alles ausgehen würde.
Die Hohepriester und der ganze Hohe Rat bemühten sich um falsche Zeugenaussagen gegen Jesus, um ihn zum Tod verurteilen zu können.
but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward
Sie fanden aber nichts, obwohl viele falsche Zeugen auftraten. Zuletzt kamen zwei Männer
and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’”
und behaupteten: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes niederreißen und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen.
Da stand der Hohepriester auf und fragte Jesus: Willst du nichts sagen zu dem, was diese Leute gegen dich vorbringen?
But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Jesus aber schwieg. Darauf sagte der Hohepriester zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, sag uns: Bist du der Christus, der Sohn Gottes?
Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Jesus antwortete: Du hast es gesagt. Doch ich erkläre euch: Von nun an werdet ihr den Menschensohn zur Rechten der Macht sitzen und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen.
Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy.
Da zerriss der Hohepriester sein Gewand und rief: Er hat Gott gelästert! Wozu brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Jetzt habt ihr die Gotteslästerung gehört.
What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.”
Was ist eure Meinung? Sie antworteten: Er ist des Todes schuldig.
Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him,
Dann spuckten sie ihm ins Gesicht und schlugen ihn. Andere ohrfeigten ihn
saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”
und riefen: Christus, du bist doch ein Prophet, sag uns: Wer hat dich geschlagen?

Doch er leugnete es vor allen und sagte: Ich weiß nicht, wovon du redest.
And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
Und als er zum Tor hinausgehen wollte, sah ihn eine andere Magd und sagte zu denen, die dort standen: Der war mit Jesus dem Nazoräer zusammen.
And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.”
Wieder leugnete er und schwor: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht.
After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.”
