Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

Du aber, Ijob, hör doch auf meine Rede, all meinen Worten leih dein Ohr!
Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
Siehe doch, ich habe meinen Mund geöffnet, schon spricht am Gaumen meine Zunge.
My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
Aus aufrichtigem Herzen kommen meine Worte, lautere Weisheit reden meine Lippen.
The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Gottes Geist hat mich erschaffen, der Atem des Allmächtigen mir das Leben gegeben.
If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
Wenn du kannst, erwidere mir! Leg es mir vor und stell dich!
Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
Schau, ich bin wie du vor Gott, auch ich bin nur aus Lehm geformt.
Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
Siehe, Furcht vor mir braucht dich nicht zu erschrecken, Druck von mir nicht auf dir lasten.
Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
Jedoch, du sprachst vor meinen Ohren und ich vernahm der Worte Laut:
I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
Rein bin ich und ohne Sünde, makellos und ohne Schuld.
Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
Seht, Vorwürfe sucht er gegen mich zu finden, er sieht mich an als seinen Feind.
He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
Meine Füße legt er in den Block, er überwacht alle meine Pfade.
Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
Sieh, da bist du nicht im Recht, sage ich dir, denn Gott ist größer als der Mensch.
Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
Warum hast du mit ihm gestritten, dass er auf deine Worte keine Antwort gibt?
For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
Denn einmal redet Gott und zweimal, man achtet nicht darauf.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
Im Traum, im Nachtgesicht, wenn tiefer Schlaf auf die Menschen fällt, im Schlummer auf dem Lager,
Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
da öffnet er der Menschen Ohr und schreckt sie auf durch Warnung,
That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
um von seinem Tun den Menschen abzubringen, den Hochmut aus dem Manne auszutreiben,
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
seine Seele vor dem Grab zu retten, sein Leben davor, in den Todesschacht hinabzusteigen.
He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
Er wird gemahnt durch Schmerz auf seinem Lager und ständig ist Kampf in seinen Gliedern.
So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
Am Brot verspürt sein Leben Ekel und seine Seele an der Lieblingsspeise.
His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
Es schwindet sein Fleisch, man sieht es nicht mehr. Abgemagert bis auf die Knochen, die man sonst nicht sieht.
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
Dem Grabe nähert sich seine Seele, sein Leben den Todesboten.
If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
Wenn dann ein Engel ihm zur Seite steht, ein Mittler, einer von den Tausenden, dem Menschen zu verkünden, was recht ist,
Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
wenn dieser sich seiner erbarmt und spricht: Erlös ihn, dass er nicht ins Grab hinabsteige, Lösegeld habe ich für ihn gefunden!,
His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
dann blüht sein Fleisch in Jugendfrische, zu den Tagen seiner Jugend kehrt er zurück.
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
Betet er zu Gott, so ist er ihm gnädig, er darf sein Angesicht schauen in festlichem Jubel. Dem Menschen gibt er seine Gerechtigkeit wieder.
He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
Er singt bei den Menschen und spricht: Gesündigt hatte ich und das Recht verkehrt; doch hat er mir nicht mit Gleichem vergolten.
He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
Losgekauft hat er meine Seele vor dem Abstieg ins Grab, mein Leben darf schauen das Licht.
Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
Sieh, alles das pflegt Gott zu tun, zweimal, ja dreimal mit dem Menschen,
To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
um fernzuhalten seine Seele von dem Grab, um ihm zu leuchten mit dem Licht des Lebens.
Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
Merk auf, Ijob, hör mich an, schweig still, dass ich rede!
If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
Hast Worte du bereit, entgegne mir! Sprich nur; denn gern gebe ich dir Recht.
