Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
»Willst du weiter mit mir streiten, mich, den Allmächtigen, immer noch tadeln? Du hast mich angeklagt, nun steh mir Rede und Antwort!«
Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
»Herr, ich bin zu gering, ich kann dir nichts erwidern; darum lege ich jetzt die Hand auf den Mund.
Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
Mehr als einmal habe ich geredet — aber ich will es nicht wieder tun; ich habe schon zu viel gesagt!«
Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Da sprach der HERR zu Hiob aus dem Sturm:
Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
»Tritt mir gegenüber wie ein Mann und antworte auf meine Fragen!
Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
Willst du mein Urteil widerlegen und mich schuldig sprechen, nur damit du recht behältst?
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
Besitzt du Macht wie ich, kannst du mit gleicher Stimme donnern?
Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
Dann schmück dich mit Würde und Macht, bekleide dich mit Pracht und Majestät!
Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
Dann lass deinen Zorn losbrechen, finde jeden stolzen Menschen heraus und erniedrige ihn!
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
Spür jeden Überheblichen auf und zwing ihn in die Knie, tritt die Gottlosen an Ort und Stelle nieder!
Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
Verscharre sie alle in der Erde, verbanne sie in das Reich der Toten!
Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
Dann will ich der Erste sein, der dich preist, weil du mit eigener Hand den Sieg errungen hast!«
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
»Schau dir den Behemot an, den ich geschaffen habe wie auch dich! Er frisst Gras wie ein Rind.
Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
Wie stark sind seine Lenden, welche Kraft hat er in den Muskeln seines Bauches!
He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
Er macht seinen Schwanz steif wie eine Zeder, dicht verflochten sind die Sehnen an den Schenkeln.
His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
Seine Knochen sind fest wie Bronzeröhren, seine Rippen gleichen Eisenstangen.
He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
Unter meinen Werken nimmt er den ersten Platz ein, und nur ich, sein Schöpfer, kann das Schwert gegen ihn ziehen.
Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
Die Hügel bieten ihm ihr Gras als Futter, und die wilden Tiere spielen neben ihm.
He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
Er liegt unter Lotusbüschen, versteckt sich im Schilf und im Sumpf.
The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
Die Lotusbüsche verbergen ihn und spenden ihm Schatten, bei den Pappeln am Ufer findet er Schutz.
Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
Schwillt der Fluss mächtig an — ihm wird nicht bange; er bleibt ruhig, selbst wenn der Jordan ihm ins Maul flutet.
