Ich will den HERRN preisen von ganzem Herzen. HERR, mein Gott, wie groß bist du! Majestätische Pracht ist dein Festgewand,
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
helles Licht umhüllt dich wie ein Mantel. Du spanntest den Himmel aus wie ein Zeltdach,
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
über den Wolken hast du deine Wohnung errichtet. Ja, die Wolken sind dein Wagen, du fährst auf den Flügeln des Windes dahin.
Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
Wind und Wetter sind deine Boten, und feurige Flammen sind deine Diener.
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
Die Erde stelltest du auf ein festes Fundament, niemals gerät sie ins Wanken.
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
Wie ein Kleid bedeckte die Urflut ihre Kontinente, die Wassermassen standen noch über den Bergen.
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
Doch vor deinem lauten Ruf wichen sie zurück, vor deinem Donnergrollen flohen sie.
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
Die Berge erhoben sich, und die Täler senkten sich an den Ort, den du für sie bestimmt hattest.
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
Du hast dem Wasser eine Grenze gesetzt, die es nicht überschreiten darf, nie wieder soll es die ganze Erde überschwemmen.
He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
Du lässt Quellen sprudeln und als Bäche in die Täler fließen, zwischen den Bergen finden sie ihren Weg.
They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
Die Tiere der Steppe trinken davon, Wildesel stillen ihren Durst.
By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
An ihren Ufern nisten die Vögel, in dichtem Laub singen sie ihre Lieder.
He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
Vom Himmel lässt du Regen auf die Berge niedergehen, die Erde versorgst du und schenkst reiche Frucht.
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
Du lässt Gras wachsen für das Vieh und Pflanzen, die der Mensch anbauen und ernten kann.
And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
So hat er Wein, der ihn erfreut, Öl, das seinen Körper pflegt, und Brot, das ihn stärkt.
The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
Du, HERR, hast die riesigen Zedern auf dem Libanongebirge gepflanzt und gibst ihnen genügend Regen.
Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
In ihren Zweigen bauen die Vögel ihre Nester, und Störche haben in den Zypressen ihren Brutplatz.
The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
In den hohen Bergen hat der Steinbock sein Revier, und das Murmeltier findet in den Felsen Zuflucht.
He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
Du hast den Mond gemacht, um die Monate zu bestimmen, und die Sonne weiß, wann sie untergehen soll.
Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
Du lässt die Dunkelheit hereinbrechen, und es wird Nacht — dann regen sich die Tiere im Dickicht des Waldes.
The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.
Die jungen Löwen brüllen nach Beute; von dir, o Gott, erwarten sie ihre Nahrung.
The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
Sobald aber die Sonne aufgeht, schleichen sie zurück in ihre Schlupfwinkel und legen sich dort nieder.
Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.
Dann steht der Mensch auf und geht an seine Arbeit, er hat zu tun, bis es wieder Abend wird.
O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
O HERR, welch unermessliche Vielfalt zeigen deine Werke! Sie alle sind Zeugen deiner Weisheit, die ganze Erde ist voll von deinen Geschöpfen.
So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
Da ist das Meer — so unendlich groß und weit, unzählbar sind die Tiere darin, große wie kleine.
There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
Schiffe ziehen dort vorüber und auch die Seeungeheuer, die du geschaffen hast, um mit ihnen zu spielen.
These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
Alle deine Geschöpfe warten auf dich, dass du ihnen zur rechten Zeit zu essen gibst.
That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
Sie holen sich die Nahrung, die du ihnen zuteilst. Du öffnest deine Hand, und sie werden reichlich satt.
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
Doch wenn du dich von ihnen abwendest, müssen sie zu Tode erschrecken. Ja, sie sterben und werden zu Staub, wenn du ihnen den Lebensatem nimmst.
Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
Doch wenn du deinen Geist schickst, wird neues Leben geschaffen, und die Erde kann sich wieder entfalten.
The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.
Die Herrlichkeit des HERRN möge ewig bestehen! Er freue sich an dem, was er geschaffen hat!
He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
Er braucht die Erde nur anzusehen — schon fängt sie an zu beben; und wenn er die Berge berührt, dann stoßen sie Rauch aus.
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
Singen will ich für den HERRN, solange ich bin, für meinen Gott will ich musizieren mein Leben lang.
My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.
Wie freue ich mich über den HERRN — möge ihm mein Lied gefallen!
Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD.
Doch wer sich ihm widersetzt, soll nicht mehr weiterleben, ja, die Gottlosen sollen vom Erdboden verschwinden. Ich will den HERRN preisen von ganzem Herzen. Halleluja — lobt den HERRN!
