Ein Psalm Asafs. Fürwahr, Gott ist gut für Israel, für alle, die reinen Herzens sind.
But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
Ich aber — fast wären meine Füße gestrauchelt, beinahe wären ausgeglitten meine Schritte.
For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
Denn ich habe mich über die Prahler ereifert, als ich das Wohlergehen der Frevler sah:
For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
Sie leiden ja keine Qualen, ihr Leib ist gesund und wohlgenährt.
They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
Sie kennen nicht die Mühsal der Sterblichen, sind nicht geplagt wie andere Menschen.
Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
Darum ist Hochmut ihr Halsschmuck, wie ein Gewand umhüllt sie Gewalttat.
Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
Sie sehen kaum aus den Augen vor Fett, ihr Herz läuft über von bösen Plänen.
They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
Sie höhnen und reden Böses, Unterdrückung reden sie von oben herab.
They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
Sie reißen ihr Maul bis zum Himmel auf und lassen auf Erden ihrer Zunge freien Lauf.
Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
Darum wendet sich das Volk ihnen zu, das Wasser ihrer Worte schlürfen sie gierig.
And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
Sie sagen: Wie sollte Gott davon wissen? Gibt es Wissen beim Höchsten?
Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
Siehe, so sind die Frevler: Immer im Glück, häufen sie Reichtum auf Reichtum.
Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
Fürwahr, umsonst bewahrte ich lauter mein Herz und wusch meine Hände in Unschuld.
For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
Und doch war ich alle Tage geplagt und wurde jeden Morgen gezüchtigt.
If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
Hätte ich gesagt: Ich will reden wie sie, siehe, ich hätte das Geschlecht deiner Kinder verraten.
When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
Ich dachte nach, um dies zu begreifen, Mühsal war es in meinen Augen,
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
bis ich eintrat in Gottes Heiligtum und einsah, wie es mit ihnen zu Ende geht.
Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
Fürwahr, du stellst sie auf schlüpfrigen Grund, du lässt sie in Täuschungen fallen.
How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
Wie werden sie in einem Augenblick zum Entsetzen, werden dahingerafft, nehmen ein Ende mit Schrecken.
As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
Wie einen Traum, nach dem Erwachen, mein Herr, verachtest du ihr Schattengebilde, wenn du aufstehst.
Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
Ja, mein Herz war bitter und Schmerz bohrte mir in den Nieren.
So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
Ich war ein Tor ohne Einsicht, wie Vieh bin ich gewesen bei dir;
Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
aber ich bin doch beständig bei dir, du hast meine Rechte ergriffen.
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Du leitest mich nach deinem Ratschluss, danach nimmst du mich auf in Herrlichkeit.
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Wen habe ich im Himmel außer dir? Neben dir erfreut mich nichts auf Erden.
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Mag mein Fleisch und mein Herz vergehen, Fels meines Herzens und mein Anteil ist Gott auf ewig.
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Denn siehe: Die fern sind von dir, gehen zugrunde, du vernichtest alle, die dich treulos verlassen.
