Abraham’s Treachery
Now Abraham journeyed from there toward the land of the Negev, and settled between Kadesh and Shur; then he sojourned in Gerar.

Abraham zog südwärts in die Wüste Negev und wohnte eine Zeit lang zwischen Kadesch und Schur. Danach ließ er sich in der Stadt Gerar nieder.
Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.
Dort gab er seine Frau als seine Schwester aus. Abimelech, der König von Gerar, fand Gefallen an Sara und ließ sie in sein Haus holen.
But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is married.”
In der Nacht erschien Gott Abimelech im Traum und sagte: »Du musst sterben! Denn die Frau, die du dir genommen hast, ist mit einem anderen verheiratet!«
Now Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a nation, even though blameless?
Abimelech aber hatte noch nicht mit Sara geschlafen. Er entgegnete: »Herr, willst du mich und mein Volk wirklich töten? Wir haben doch nichts Unrechtes getan!
“Did he not himself say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this.”
Abraham hat zu mir gesagt, sie sei seine Schwester, und sie hat es bestätigt. Also habe ich es nicht anders wissen können, ich bin unschuldig!«
Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also kept you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.
»Ja, ich weiß«, antwortete Gott, »deshalb habe ich dich auch davor zurückgehalten, an mir schuldig zu werden. Ich habe dafür gesorgt, dass du keine Gelegenheit hattest, mit ihr zu schlafen.
“Now therefore, restore the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”
Und nun gib sie ihrem Mann zurück! Er ist ein Prophet; er soll für dich beten, dann wirst du am Leben bleiben. Wenn du sie ihm aber nicht zurückgibst, musst du auf jeden Fall sterben, und alle, die zu dir gehören, werden auch umkommen.«
So Abimelech arose early in the morning and called all his servants and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were greatly frightened.
Am nächsten Morgen stand Abimelech früh auf, rief alle seine Untergebenen zusammen und erzählte ihnen, was vorgefallen war. Die Männer bekamen große Angst.
Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”
Dann rief er Abraham zu sich und stellte ihn zur Rede: »Warum hast du uns das angetan? Was haben wir verbrochen, dass du mich und mein Volk in solch große Schuld hineinziehst? Wie du dich mir gegenüber verhalten hast, ist wirklich unerhört!
And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What have you encountered, that you have done this thing?”
Was hast du dir nur dabei gedacht?«
Abraham said, “Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.
Abraham erwiderte: »Ich glaubte, die Leute in dieser Stadt hätten keine Ehrfurcht vor Gott und kümmerten sich nicht um Gut und Böse. Ich dachte: ›Sie wollen bestimmt meine Frau haben und werden mich deshalb töten!‹
“Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife;
Außerdem ist sie wirklich meine Schwester: Wir haben nämlich beide denselben Vater, nur nicht dieselbe Mutter. Später ist sie dann meine Frau geworden.
and it came about, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her, ‘This is the kindness which you will show to me: everywhere we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
Als Gott mir befahl, meine Heimat zu verlassen, sagte ich zu ihr: ›Tu mir den Gefallen und gib dich überall als meine Schwester aus!‹«
Abimelech then took sheep and oxen and male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored his wife Sarah to him.
Da gab Abimelech Abraham seine Frau zurück und ließ ihm großzügige Geschenke zukommen: Knechte, Mägde, Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder.
Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you; settle wherever you please.”
»Hier, mein Land steht dir offen — du kannst wohnen, wo es dir gefällt!«, bot er Abraham an.
To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, it is your vindication before all who are with you, and before all men you are cleared.”
Danach wandte er sich an Sara: »Schau her! Ich gebe deinem Bruder 1000 Silberstücke als Entschädigung. Daran können die Leute sehen, dass deine Ehre nicht geraubt worden ist. Niemand soll dir etwas nachsagen können!«
Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maids, so that they bore children.
Dann betete Abraham für Abimelech. Gott, der HERR, erhörte ihn und hob die Strafe wieder auf, die er über das ganze Haus Abimelechs verhängt hatte. Abimelechs Frau und alle seine Sklavinnen waren nämlich unfruchtbar geworden, weil er Abrahams Frau zu sich geholt hatte. Aber nun konnten sie wieder Kinder bekommen.
