Asa Succeeds Abijah in Judah
So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and his son Asa became king in his place. The land was undisturbed for ten years during his days.

(Und Asa tat, was recht war und dem HERRN, seinem Gott, wohl gefiel,
Asa did good and right in the sight of the LORD his God,
(und tat weg die fremden Altäre und die Höhen und zerbrach die Säulen und hieb die Ascherahbilder ab
for he removed the foreign altars and high places, tore down the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherim,
(und ließ Juda sagen, daß sie den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, suchten und täten nach dem Gesetz und Gebot.
and commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers and to observe the law and the commandment.
(Und er tat weg aus allen Städten Juda’s die Höhen und die Sonnensäulen; denn das Königreich war still vor ihm.
He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah. And the kingdom was undisturbed under him.
(Und er baute feste Städte in Juda, weil das Land still und kein Streit wider ihn war in denselben Jahren; denn der HERR gab ihm Ruhe.
He built fortified cities in Judah, since the land was undisturbed, and there was no one at war with him during those years, because the LORD had given him rest.
(Und er sprach zu Juda: Laßt uns diese Städte bauen und Mauern darumher führen und Türme, Türen und Riegel, weil das Land noch offen vor uns ist; denn wir haben den HERRN, unsern Gott, gesucht, und er hat uns Ruhe gegeben umher. Also bauten sie, und es ging glücklich vonstatten.
For he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
Und Asa hatte eine Heereskraft, die Schild und Spieß trugen, aus Juda 300,000 und aus Benjamin, die Schilde trugen und mit dem Bogen schießen konnten 280,000; und diese waren alle starke Helden.
Now Asa had an army of 300,000 from Judah, bearing large shields and spears, and 280,000 from Benjamin, bearing shields and wielding bows; all of them were valiant warriors.
Es zog aber wider sie aus Serah, der Mohr, mit einer Heereskraft 1000 mal 1000, dazu 300 Wagen, und sie kamen bis gen Maresa.
Now Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and he came to Mareshah.
(Und Asa zog aus ihnen entgegen; und sie rüsteten sich zum Streit im Tal Zephatha bei Maresa.
So Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up in battle formation in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
Und Asa rief an den HERRN, seinen Gott, und sprach: HERR, es ist bei dir kein Unterschied, zu helfen unter vielen oder da keine Kraft ist. Hilf uns, HERR, unser Gott; denn wir verlassen uns auf dich, und in deinem Namen sind wir gekommen wider diese Menge. HERR, unser Gott, wider dich vermag kein Mensch etwas.
Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.”
Und der HERR schlug die Mohren vor Asa und vor Juda, daß sie flohen.
So the LORD routed the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.
Und Asa samt dem Volk, das bei ihm war, jagte ihnen nach bis gen Gerar. Und die Mohren fielen, daß ihrer keiner lebendig blieb; sondern sie wurden geschlagen vor dem HERRN und vor seinem Heerlager. Und sie trugen sehr viel Raub davon.
Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar; and so many Ethiopians fell that they could not recover, for they were shattered before the LORD and before His army. And they carried away very much plunder.
Und er schlug alle Städte um Gerar her; denn die Furcht des HERRN kam über sie. Und sie beraubten alle Städte; denn es war viel Raub darin.
