Da traten Haggai, der Prophet, und Sacharja, der Sohn Iddos, auf und sprachen als Propheten zu den Juden in Juda und Jerusalem im Namen des Gottes Israels, der über ihnen war.
then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak arose and began to rebuild the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them supporting them.
Daraufhin machten sich Serubbabel, der Sohn Schealtiëls, und Jeschua, der Sohn des Jozadak, an die Arbeit und nahmen den Bau des Gotteshauses in Jerusalem wieder auf. Die Propheten Gottes standen ihnen bei und unterstützten sie.
At that time Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues came to them and spoke to them thus, “Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?”
In dieser Zeit kamen Tattenai, der Statthalter des Gebiets jenseits des Stroms, und Schetar-Bosnai sowie ihre Amtsgenossen zu den Juden und fragten sie: Wer hat euch die Erlaubnis erteilt, dieses Haus wieder aufzubauen und das Holzwerk innen zu vollenden?
Then we told them accordingly what the names of the men were who were reconstructing this building.
Und sie fragten weiter: Wie heißen die Männer, die diesen Bau aufführen?
But the eye of their God was on the elders of the Jews, and they did not stop them until a report could come to Darius, and then a written reply be returned concerning it.
Aber über die Ältesten der Juden wachte das Auge ihres Gottes. So hinderte man sie nicht, bis ein Bericht an Darius abgegangen und die Antwort darauf zurückgekommen sei.
Adversaries Write to Darius
This is the copy of the letter which Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai and his colleagues the officials, who were beyond the River, sent to Darius the king.
Das ist eine Abschrift des Briefes, den Tattenai, der Statthalter des Gebiets jenseits des Stroms, und Schetar-Bosnai mit seinen Amtsgenossen, den Beamten im Gebiet jenseits des Stroms, an den König Darius sandten.
They sent a report to him in which it was written thus: “To Darius the king, all peace.
Sie schickten ihm einen Bericht folgenden Inhalts: Dem König Darius alles Gute!
“Let it be known to the king that we have gone to the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is being built with huge stones, and beams are being laid in the walls; and this work is going on with great care and is succeeding in their hands.
Dem König sei gemeldet, dass wir in der Provinz Juda das Haus des großen Gottes besichtigt haben. Die Leute bauen es mit Quadersteinen und belegen die Wände mit Holz. Sie betreiben diese Arbeit mit Eifer und sie geht unter ihren Händen gut voran.
“Then we asked those elders and said to them thus, ‘Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?’
Darauf fragten wir jene Ältesten und sagten so zu ihnen: Wer hat euch die Erlaubnis erteilt, dieses Haus wieder aufzubauen und das Holzwerk innen zu vollenden?
“We also asked them their names so as to inform you, and that we might write down the names of the men who were at their head.
Wir fragten sie auch nach ihren Namen, um sie dir zu melden. Was wir schreiben, sind die Namen der Männer, die an ihrer Spitze stehen.
“Thus they answered us, saying, ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth and are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished.
Sie gaben uns folgende Antwort: Wir verehren den Gott des Himmels und der Erde und bauen das Gotteshaus wieder auf, das einst viele Jahre lang hier stand; ein großer König von Israel hat es erbaut und vollendet.
‘But because our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, He gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.
Unsere Väter aber erzürnten den Gott des Himmels; darum gab er sie in die Hand des Chaldäers Nebukadnezzar, des Königs von Babel. Er zerstörte dieses Haus und verschleppte das Volk nach Babel.
‘However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild this house of God.
Doch im ersten Jahr, als Kyrus König von Babel war, gab König Kyrus den Befehl, dieses Gotteshaus wieder aufzubauen.
‘Also the gold and silver utensils of the house of God which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, and brought them to the temple of Babylon, these King Cyrus took from the temple of Babylon and they were given to one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had appointed governor.
Nebukadnezzar hatte auch die goldenen und silbernen Geräte des Gotteshauses aus dem Tempel von Jerusalem weggenommen und in den Tempel von Babel gebracht. König Kyrus ließ sie nun wieder aus dem Tempel von Babel holen und einem Mann namens Scheschbazzar übergeben, den er als Statthalter einsetzte.
‘He said to him, “Take these utensils, go and deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem and let the house of God be rebuilt in its place.”
Er sagte zu ihm: Nimm diese Geräte, zieh heim und bring sie in den Tempel zu Jerusalem! Das Gotteshaus soll an seiner alten Stelle wieder aufgebaut werden.
‘Then that Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem; and from then until now it has been under construction and it is not yet completed.’
Darauf kam jener Scheschbazzar und legte die Fundamente für das Gotteshaus in Jerusalem. Seitdem baut man daran, bis jetzt; aber es ist noch nicht fertig.
“Now if it pleases the king, let a search be conducted in the king’s treasure house, which is there in Babylon, if it be that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to rebuild this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send to us his decision concerning this matter.”
Wenn es dem König nun recht ist, so forsche man dort in Babel in den königlichen Schatzhäusern nach, ob wirklich von König Kyrus ein Befehl vorliegt, jenes Gotteshaus in Jerusalem wieder aufzubauen. Seinen Entscheid in der Sache sende dann der König uns zu.
