To Egypt, concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was by the Euphrates River at Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:
Eine davon richtete sich gegen Ägypten. Das Heer des ägyptischen Pharaos Necho wurde im 4. Regierungsjahr des judäischen Königs Jojakim, des Sohnes von Josia, vom babylonischen König Nebukadnezar bei Karkemisch am Euphrat geschlagen.
“Line up the shield and buckler,
And draw near for the battle!

Da sprach der Herr: »Die ägyptischen Heerführer rufen: ›Haltet die Rund- und Langschilde bereit! Spannt die Pferde vor die Streitwagen! Die Reiter sollen aufsitzen! Alle in Schlachtordnung! Setzt die Helme auf, schärft die Speere und schnallt die Brustpanzer um! Los, zieht in den Kampf!‹

Doch was sehe ich, der HERR? Entsetzt weichen sie zurück! Ihre kampferprobten Soldaten werden auseinandergetrieben, sie fliehen Hals über Kopf, ohne noch einmal zurückzuschauen. Überall herrschen Angst und Schrecken.

Selbst die schnellsten Läufer können nicht mehr entkommen, die besten Soldaten nicht mehr fliehen. Am Euphrat im Norden stolpern sie und fallen.
Who is this that rises like the Nile,
Like the rivers whose waters surge about?

Wer steigt da herauf wie die Fluten des Nils, wie Ströme, die alles überschwemmen?

Das ist Ägypten, es sagt: ›Ich will aufsteigen, alle Länder der Erde überfluten, die Städte zerstören und die Bewohner auslöschen!

Auf, ihr Pferde, galoppiert! Rast, ihr Streitwagen! Stürzt euch in den Kampf, ihr mutigen Krieger! Ihr Soldaten aus Äthiopien und Libyen, greift zu euren Schilden, und ihr aus Lydien, nehmt eure Bogen!‹

Doch dieser Tag gehört mir, dem allmächtigen HERRN und Gott. An diesem Tag werde ich mich an meinen Feinden rächen. Mein Schwert wird sie auffressen, bis es satt geworden ist, und es wird ihr Blut trinken, bis sein Durst gestillt ist. Ja, ich, der allmächtige HERR und Gott, feiere ein Opferfest im Norden, am Ufer des Euphrat!

Volk von Ägypten, zieh nur ins Land Gilead und hol dir Salben für deine Wunden! Es nützt ja doch nichts! Deine Wunden heilen nicht mehr, da kannst du noch so viele Salben nehmen.

Die Völker erfahren von deiner beschämenden Niederlage, dein Klagegeschrei ist im ganzen Land zu hören. Deine Soldaten stürzen in Panik übereinander und bleiben alle miteinander tot am Boden liegen.«
This is the message which the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to smite the land of Egypt:
Als der babylonische König Nebukadnezar mit seinem Heer nach Ägypten zog, um das Land anzugreifen, sprach der HERR zum Propheten Jeremia:
“Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdol,
Proclaim also in Memphis and Tahpanhes;
Say, ‘Take your stand and get yourself ready,
For the sword has devoured those around you.’

»Richte den ägyptischen Städten Migdol, Memfis und Tachpanhes aus, sie sollen sich zum Kampf rüsten! Denn es wird Krieg geben, schon wurden die Nachbarländer ringsum zerstört.
“Why have your mighty ones become prostrate?
They do not stand because the LORD has thrust them down.

Ägypten, warum sind deine Soldaten gestürzt? Sie konnten nicht standhalten, weil ich, der HERR, sie zu Boden stieß!
“They have repeatedly stumbled;
Indeed, they have fallen one against another.
Then they said, ‘Get up! And let us go back
To our own people and our native land
Away from the sword of the oppressor.’

Ja, ich ließ viele von ihnen stürzen, einer fiel über den anderen. Die Söldner rufen einander zu: ›Kommt, wir fliehen und kehren zurück in die Heimat zu unseren Landsleuten, bevor wir alle umkommen!‹
“They cried there, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a big noise;
He has let the appointed time pass by!’

Denn ich, der HERR, bin König der ganzen Welt; ›allmächtiger Gott‹ lautet mein Name. Ich schwöre euch, so wahr ich lebe: Einer wird euch angreifen, der mächtiger ist als alle anderen, so wie der Tabor die anderen Berge überragt und wie der Gipfel des Karmel hoch über dem Meer liegt!
“Make your baggage ready for exile,
O daughter dwelling in Egypt,

Ihr Ägypter, packt zusammen, was ihr in die Verbannung mitnehmen müsst, denn Memfis wird zu einer trostlosen Wüste werden, zerstört und menschenleer.
“Egypt is a pretty heifer,

Ägypten ist wie eine schöne junge Kuh, die von einer Stechfliege aus dem Norden angegriffen wird.

Ihre Söldner sind wie gemästete Kälber, sie ergreifen die Flucht, nicht einer leistet Widerstand. Der Tag des Verderbens ist für sie gekommen, jetzt hat ihre Stunde geschlagen!

Ägypten weicht zurück, es zischt wie eine fliehende Schlange, während das Heer der Feinde heranrückt. Sie kommen mit Äxten wie Holzfäller,

sie zerschlagen Ägypten, wie man ein Walddickicht abholzt. Ein riesiges Heer rückt heran, sie fallen über das Land her, als wären sie ein Heuschreckenschwarm.

Given over to the power of the people of the north.”

Ägypten erntet Verachtung, es ist dem Volk aus dem Norden hilflos ausgeliefert.
The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, says, “Behold, I am going to punish Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt along with her gods and her kings, even Pharaoh and those who trust in him.
Ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott Israels, werde Amon, den Gott von Theben, strafen, ebenso den Pharao und ganz Ägypten mit seinen Göttern und Königen! Ja, der Pharao und alle, die sich auf ihn verlassen, bekommen meine Strafe zu spüren.
“I shall give them over to the power of those who are seeking their lives, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of his officers. Afterwards, however, it will be inhabited as in the days of old,” declares the LORD.
Ich gebe sie in die Gewalt ihrer Todfeinde, ich lasse sie dem babylonischen König Nebukadnezar und seinen Heerführern in die Hände fallen. Aber danach soll Ägypten wieder bewohnt werden wie früher. Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, mein Wort!
“But as for you, O Jacob My servant, do not fear,
Nor be dismayed, O Israel!
For, see, I am going to save you from afar,
And your descendants from the land of their captivity;
And Jacob will return and be undisturbed
And secure, with no one making him tremble.

Fürchtet euch nicht, ihr Nachkommen von Jakob, meine Diener! Hab keine Angst, Volk Israel! Denn ich werde euch aus einem fernen Land zurückholen. Ja, ich befreie eure Nachkommen aus dem Land, in dem sie Gefangene sind. Dann werdet ihr in Frieden und Sicherheit leben, niemand bedroht euch mehr.
“O Jacob My servant, do not fear,” declares the LORD,
“For I am with you.
For I will make a full end of all the nations
Where I have driven you,
Yet I will not make a full end of you;
But I will correct you properly
And by no means leave you unpunished.”

Fürchtet euch nicht, ihr Nachkommen von Jakob, meine Diener! Denn ich, der HERR, bin bei euch, um euch zu helfen! Die Völker, in deren Länder ich euch vertrieben habe, lasse ich vom Erdboden verschwinden, doch euch lösche ich nicht aus. Zwar werde ich auch euch bestrafen, wie ihr es verdient habt, aber ich gehe nicht zu hart mit euch ins Gericht.«
