Tradition and Commandment
Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,

Da kamen von Jerusalem Pharisäer und Schriftgelehrte zu Jesus und sagten:
“Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”
Warum übertreten deine Jünger die Überlieferung der Alten? Denn sie waschen sich nicht ihre Hände, wenn sie essen.
And He answered and said to them, “Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
Er entgegnete ihnen: Warum übertretet denn ihr Gottes Gebot um eurer Überlieferung willen?
“For God said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,’ and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH.’
Gott hat doch gesagt: Ehre Vater und Mutter! und: Wer Vater oder Mutter schmäht, soll mit dem Tod bestraft werden.
“But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,”
Ihr aber meint: Wer zu Vater oder Mutter sagt: Was ich dir schulde, sei eine Opfergabe!,
he is not to honor his father or his mother.’ And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
der braucht seinen Vater oder seine Mutter nicht mehr zu ehren. Damit habt ihr Gottes Wort um eurer Überlieferung willen außer Kraft gesetzt.
“You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you:
Ihr Heuchler! Treffend hat der Prophet Jesaja über euch gesagt:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
Dieses Volk ehrt mich mit den Lippen, sein Herz aber ist weit weg von mir.
‘BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME,
TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’”

Vergeblich verehren sie mich; was sie lehren, sind Satzungen von Menschen.
After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, “Hear and understand.
Und er rief die Leute zu sich und sagte: Hört und begreift:
“It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”
Nicht das, was durch den Mund in den Menschen hineinkommt, macht ihn unrein, sondern was aus dem Mund des Menschen herauskommt, das macht ihn unrein.
Then the disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?”
Da kamen die Jünger zu ihm und sagten: Weißt du, dass die Pharisäer, die dein Wort gehört haben, empört sind?
But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.
Er antwortete ihnen: Jede Pflanze, die nicht mein himmlischer Vater gepflanzt hat, wird ausgerissen werden.
“Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”
Lasst sie, es sind blinde Blindenführer. Und wenn ein Blinder einen Blinden führt, werden beide in eine Grube fallen.
The Heart of Man
Peter said to Him, “Explain the parable to us.”
Da sagte Petrus zu ihm: Erkläre uns dieses Rätselwort!
Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also?
Er antwortete: Begreift auch ihr noch nicht?
“Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated?
Versteht ihr nicht, dass alles, was durch den Mund hineinkommt, in den Magen gelangt und dann wieder ausgeschieden wird?
“But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.
Was aber aus dem Mund herauskommt, das kommt aus dem Herzen und das macht den Menschen unrein.
“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.
Denn aus dem Herzen kommen böse Gedanken, Mord, Ehebruch, Unzucht, Diebstahl, falsche Zeugenaussagen und Lästerungen.
“These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”
Das ist es, was den Menschen unrein macht; aber mit ungewaschenen Händen essen macht den Menschen nicht unrein.
The Syrophoenician Woman
Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon.
Jesus ging weg von dort und zog sich in das Gebiet von Tyrus und Sidon zurück.
And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.”
Und siehe, eine kanaanäische Frau aus jener Gegend kam zu ihm und rief: Hab Erbarmen mit mir, Herr, du Sohn Davids! Meine Tochter wird von einem Dämon gequält.
But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us.”
Jesus aber gab ihr keine Antwort. Da traten seine Jünger zu ihm und baten: Schick sie fort, denn sie schreit hinter uns her!
But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Er antwortete: Ich bin nur zu den verlorenen Schafen des Hauses Israel gesandt.
But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
Doch sie kam, fiel vor ihm nieder und sagte: Herr, hilf mir!
And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
Er erwiderte: Es ist nicht recht, das Brot den Kindern wegzunehmen und den kleinen Hunden vorzuwerfen.
But she said, “Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
Da entgegnete sie: Ja, Herr! Aber selbst die kleinen Hunde essen von den Brotkrumen, die vom Tisch ihrer Herren fallen.
Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.
Darauf antwortete ihr Jesus: Frau, dein Glaube ist groß. Es soll dir geschehen, wie du willst. Und von dieser Stunde an war ihre Tochter geheilt.
Healing Crowds
Departing from there, Jesus went along by the Sea of Galilee, and having gone up on the mountain, He was sitting there.
Jesus zog von dort weiter und kam an den See von Galiläa. Er stieg auf einen Berg und setzte sich.
And large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them.
Da kamen viele Menschen zu ihm und brachten Lahme, Blinde, Krüppel, Stumme und viele andere Kranke; sie legten sie ihm zu Füßen und er heilte sie,
So the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
sodass die Menschen staunten, als sie sahen, dass Stumme redeten, Krüppel gesund wurden, Lahme gehen und Blinde sehen konnten. Und sie priesen den Gott Israels.
Four Thousand Fed
And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, “I feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.”
Jesus rief seine Jünger zu sich und sagte: Ich habe Mitleid mit diesen Menschen; sie sind schon drei Tage bei mir und haben nichts mehr zu essen. Ich will sie nicht hungrig wegschicken, sonst brechen sie auf dem Weg zusammen.
The disciples said to Him, “Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?”
Da sagten die Jünger zu ihm: Wo sollen wir in dieser Wüste so viel Brot hernehmen, um so viele Menschen satt zu machen?
And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”
Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Wie viele Brote habt ihr? Sie antworteten: Sieben — und ein paar Fische.
And He directed the people to sit down on the ground;
Da forderte er die Leute auf, sich auf den Boden zu setzen.
and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
Und er nahm die sieben Brote und die Fische, sprach das Dankgebet, brach sie und gab sie den Jüngern und die Jünger gaben sie den Menschen.
And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full.
Und alle aßen und wurden satt. Und sie sammelten die übrig gebliebenen Stücke ein, sieben Körbe voll.
And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
Es waren viertausend Männer, die gegessen hatten, dazu noch Frauen und Kinder.
