Parable of Ten Virgins
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

Dann wird es mit dem Himmelreich sein wie mit zehn Jungfrauen, die ihre Lampen nahmen und dem Bräutigam entgegengingen.
“Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
Fünf von ihnen waren töricht und fünf waren klug.
“For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,
Die törichten nahmen ihre Lampen mit, aber kein Öl,
but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.
die klugen aber nahmen mit ihren Lampen noch Öl in Krügen mit.
“Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.
Als nun der Bräutigam lange nicht kam, wurden sie alle müde und schliefen ein.
“But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’
Mitten in der Nacht aber erscholl der Ruf: Siehe, der Bräutigam! Geht ihm entgegen!
“Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.
Da standen die Jungfrauen alle auf und machten ihre Lampen zurecht.
“The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
Die törichten aber sagten zu den klugen: Gebt uns von eurem Öl, sonst gehen unsere Lampen aus!
“But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’
Die klugen erwiderten ihnen: Dann reicht es nicht für uns und für euch; geht lieber zu den Händlern und kauft es euch!
“And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut.
Während sie noch unterwegs waren, um es zu kaufen, kam der Bräutigam. Die Jungfrauen, die bereit waren, gingen mit ihm in den Hochzeitssaal und die Tür wurde zugeschlossen.
“Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’
Später kamen auch die anderen Jungfrauen und riefen: Herr, Herr, mach uns auf!
“But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’
Er aber antwortete ihnen und sprach: Amen, ich sage euch: Ich kenne euch nicht.
“Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.
Seid also wachsam! Denn ihr wisst weder den Tag noch die Stunde.
Parable of the Talents
“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
Es ist wie mit einem Mann, der auf Reisen ging. Er rief seine Diener und vertraute ihnen sein Vermögen an.
“To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.
Dem einen gab er fünf Talente Silbergeld, einem anderen zwei, wieder einem anderen eines, jedem nach seinen Fähigkeiten. Dann reiste er ab. Sofort
“Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents.
ging der Diener, der die fünf Talente erhalten hatte hin, wirtschaftete mit ihnen und gewann noch fünf weitere dazu.
“In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more.
Ebenso gewann der, der zwei erhalten hatte, noch zwei weitere dazu.
“But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
Der aber, der das eine Talent erhalten hatte, ging und grub ein Loch in die Erde und versteckte das Geld seines Herrn.
“Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.
Nach langer Zeit kehrte der Herr jener Diener zurück und hielt Abrechnung mit ihnen.
“The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’
Da kam der, der die fünf Talente erhalten hatte, brachte fünf weitere und sagte: Herr, fünf Talente hast du mir gegeben; sieh her, ich habe noch fünf dazugewonnen.
“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’
Sein Herr sagte zu ihm: Sehr gut, du tüchtiger und treuer Diener. Über Weniges warst du treu, über Vieles werde ich dich setzen. Komm, nimm teil am Freudenfest deines Herrn!
“Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’
Dann kam der Diener, der zwei Talente erhalten hatte, und sagte: Herr, du hast mir zwei Talente gegeben; sieh her, ich habe noch zwei dazugewonnen.
“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’
Sein Herr sagte zu ihm: Sehr gut, du tüchtiger und treuer Diener. Über Weniges warst du treu, über Vieles werde ich dich setzen. Komm, nimm teil am Freudenfest deines Herrn!
“And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.
Es kam aber auch der Diener, der das eine Talent erhalten hatte, und sagte: Herr, ich wusste, dass du ein strenger Mensch bist; du erntest, wo du nicht gesät hast, und sammelst, wo du nicht ausgestreut hast;
‘And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’
weil ich Angst hatte, habe ich dein Geld in der Erde versteckt. Sieh her, hier hast du das Deine.
“But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.
Sein Herr antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Du bist ein schlechter und fauler Diener! Du hast gewusst, dass ich ernte, wo ich nicht gesät habe, und sammle, wo ich nicht ausgestreut habe.
‘Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.
Du hättest mein Geld auf die Bank bringen müssen, dann hätte ich es bei meiner Rückkehr mit Zinsen zurückerhalten.
‘Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’
Nehmt ihm also das Talent weg und gebt es dem, der die zehn Talente hat!
“For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.
Denn wer hat, dem wird gegeben werden und er wird im Überfluss haben; wer aber nicht hat, dem wird auch noch weggenommen, was er hat.
“Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Werft den nichtsnutzigen Diener hinaus in die äußerste Finsternis! Dort wird Heulen und Zähneknirschen sein.
The Judgment
“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.
Wenn der Menschensohn in seiner Herrlichkeit kommt und alle Engel mit ihm, dann wird er sich auf den Thron seiner Herrlichkeit setzen.
“All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;
Und alle Völker werden vor ihm versammelt werden und er wird sie voneinander scheiden, wie der Hirt die Schafe von den Böcken scheidet.
and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
Er wird die Schafe zu seiner Rechten stellen, die Böcke aber zur Linken.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Dann wird der König denen zu seiner Rechten sagen: Kommt her, die ihr von meinem Vater gesegnet seid, empfangt das Reich als Erbe, das seit der Erschaffung der Welt für euch bestimmt ist!
‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;
Denn ich war hungrig und ihr habt mir zu essen gegeben; ich war durstig und ihr habt mir zu trinken gegeben; ich war fremd und ihr habt mich aufgenommen;
naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
ich war nackt und ihr habt mir Kleidung gegeben; ich war krank und ihr habt mich besucht; ich war im Gefängnis und ihr seid zu mir gekommen.
“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?
Dann werden ihm die Gerechten antworten und sagen: Herr, wann haben wir dich hungrig gesehen und dir zu essen gegeben oder durstig und dir zu trinken gegeben?
‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?
Und wann haben wir dich fremd gesehen und aufgenommen oder nackt und dir Kleidung gegeben?
‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
Und wann haben wir dich krank oder im Gefängnis gesehen und sind zu dir gekommen?
“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
Darauf wird der König ihnen antworten: Amen, ich sage euch: Was ihr für einen meiner geringsten Brüder getan habt, das habt ihr mir getan.
“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
Dann wird er zu denen auf der Linken sagen: Geht weg von mir, ihr Verfluchten, in das ewige Feuer, das für den Teufel und seine Engel bestimmt ist!
for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;
Denn ich war hungrig und ihr habt mir nichts zu essen gegeben; ich war durstig und ihr habt mir nichts zu trinken gegeben;
I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’
ich war fremd und ihr habt mich nicht aufgenommen; ich war nackt und ihr habt mir keine Kleidung gegeben; ich war krank und im Gefängnis und ihr habt mich nicht besucht.
“Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’
Dann werden auch sie antworten: Herr, wann haben wir dich hungrig oder durstig oder fremd oder nackt oder krank oder im Gefängnis gesehen und haben dir nicht geholfen?
“Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
Darauf wird er ihnen antworten: Amen, ich sage euch: Was ihr für einen dieser Geringsten nicht getan habt, das habt ihr auch mir nicht getan.
