Teaching at Nazareth
Jesus went out from there and came into His hometown; and His disciples followed Him.

Von dort brach Jesus auf und kam in seine Heimatstadt; seine Jünger folgten ihm nach.
When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands?
Am Sabbat lehrte er in der Synagoge. Und die vielen Menschen, die ihm zuhörten, gerieten außer sich vor Staunen und sagten: Woher hat er das alles? Was ist das für eine Weisheit, die ihm gegeben ist! Und was sind das für Machttaten, die durch ihn geschehen!
“Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?” And they took offense at Him.
Ist das nicht der Zimmermann, der Sohn der Maria und der Bruder von Jakobus, Joses, Judas und Simon? Leben nicht seine Schwestern hier unter uns? Und sie nahmen Anstoß an ihm.
Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.”
Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Nirgends ist ein Prophet ohne Ansehen außer in seiner Heimat, bei seinen Verwandten und in seiner Familie.
And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.
Und er konnte dort keine Machttat tun; nur einigen Kranken legte er die Hände auf und heilte sie.
And He wondered at their unbelief.
And He was going around the villages teaching.

The Twelve Sent Out
And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits;
Er rief die Zwölf zu sich und sandte sie aus, jeweils zwei zusammen. Er gab ihnen Vollmacht über die unreinen Geister
and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff — no bread, no bag, no money in their belt —
und er gebot ihnen, außer einem Wanderstab nichts auf den Weg mitzunehmen, kein Brot, keine Vorratstasche, kein Geld im Gürtel,
but to wear sandals; and He added, “Do not put on two tunics.”
kein zweites Hemd und an den Füßen nur Sandalen.
And He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town.
Und er sagte zu ihnen: Bleibt in dem Haus, in dem ihr einkehrt, bis ihr den Ort wieder verlasst!
“Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.”
Wenn man euch aber in einem Ort nicht aufnimmt und euch nicht hören will, dann geht weiter und schüttelt den Staub von euren Füßen, ihnen zum Zeugnis.
They went out and preached that men should repent.
Und sie zogen aus und verkündeten die Umkehr.
And they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.
Sie trieben viele Dämonen aus und salbten viele Kranke mit Öl und heilten sie.
John’s Fate Recalled
And King Herod heard of it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”
Der König Herodes hörte von Jesus; denn sein Name war bekannt geworden und man sagte: Johannes der Täufer ist von den Toten auferstanden; deshalb wirken solche Kräfte in ihm.
But others were saying, “He is Elijah.” And others were saying, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”
Andere sagten: Er ist Elija. Wieder andere: Er ist ein Prophet, wie einer von den alten Propheten.
But when Herod heard of it, he kept saying, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen!”
Als aber Herodes von ihm hörte, sagte er: Johannes, den ich enthaupten ließ, ist auferstanden.
For Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.
Herodes hatte nämlich Johannes festnehmen und ins Gefängnis werfen lassen. Schuld daran war Herodias, die Frau seines Bruders Philippus, die er geheiratet hatte.
For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Denn Johannes hatte zu Herodes gesagt: Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, die Frau deines Bruders zur Frau zu haben.
Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death and could not do so;
Herodias verzieh ihm das nicht und wollte ihn töten lassen. Sie konnte es aber nicht durchsetzen,
for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; but he used to enjoy listening to him.
denn Herodes fürchtete sich vor Johannes, weil er wusste, dass dieser ein gerechter und heiliger Mann war. Darum schützte er ihn. Wenn er ihm zuhörte, geriet er in große Verlegenheit und doch hörte er ihm gern zu.
A strategic day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his lords and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee;
Eines Tages ergab sich für Herodias eine günstige Gelegenheit. An seinem Geburtstag lud Herodes seine Hofbeamten und Offiziere zusammen mit den vornehmsten Bürgern von Galiläa zu einem Festmahl ein.
and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”
Da kam die Tochter der Herodias und tanzte und sie gefiel dem Herodes und seinen Gästen so sehr, dass der König zu dem Mädchen sagte: Verlange von mir, was du willst; ich werde es dir geben.
And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you; up to half of my kingdom.”
Er schwor ihr sogar: Was du auch von mir verlangst, ich will es dir geben, und wenn es die Hälfte meines Reiches wäre.
And she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.”
Sie ging hinaus und fragte ihre Mutter: Was soll ich verlangen? Herodias antwortete: Den Kopf Johannes’ des Täufers.
Immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
Da lief das Mädchen zum König hinein und verlangte: Ich will, dass du mir sofort auf einer Schale den Kopf Johannes’ des Täufers bringen lässt.
And although the king was very sorry, yet because of his oaths and because of his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her.
Da wurde der König sehr traurig, aber wegen der Eide und der Gäste wollte er ihren Wunsch nicht ablehnen.
Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and had him beheaded in the prison,
Deshalb befahl er einem Scharfrichter, sofort ins Gefängnis zu gehen und den Kopf des Täufers herzubringen. Der Scharfrichter ging und enthauptete Johannes.
and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.
Dann brachte er den Kopf auf einer Schale, gab ihn dem Mädchen und das Mädchen gab ihn seiner Mutter.
When his disciples heard about this, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb.
Als die Jünger des Johannes das hörten, kamen sie, holten seinen Leichnam und legten ihn in ein Grab.
The apostles gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught.
Die Apostel versammelten sich wieder bei Jesus und berichteten ihm alles, was sie getan und gelehrt hatten.
And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)
Da sagte er zu ihnen: Kommt mit an einen einsamen Ort, wo wir allein sind, und ruht ein wenig aus! Denn sie fanden nicht einmal Zeit zum Essen, so zahlreich waren die Leute, die kamen und gingen.
They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves.
Sie fuhren also mit dem Boot in eine einsame Gegend, um allein zu sein.
Five Thousand Fed
The people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them.
Aber man sah sie abfahren und viele erfuhren davon; sie liefen zu Fuß aus allen Städten dorthin und kamen noch vor ihnen an.
When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
Als er ausstieg, sah er die vielen Menschen und hatte Mitleid mit ihnen; denn sie waren wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben. Und er lehrte sie lange.
When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, “This place is desolate and it is already quite late;
Gegen Abend kamen seine Jünger zu ihm und sagten: Der Ort ist abgelegen und es ist schon spät.
send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
Schick sie weg, damit sie in die umliegenden Gehöfte und Dörfer gehen und sich etwas zu essen kaufen können!
But He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?”
Er erwiderte: Gebt ihr ihnen zu essen! Sie sagten zu ihm: Sollen wir weggehen, für zweihundert Denare Brot kaufen und es ihnen zu essen geben?
And He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”
Er sagte zu ihnen: Wie viele Brote habt ihr? Geht und seht nach! Sie sahen nach und berichteten: Fünf Brote und außerdem zwei Fische.
And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass.
Dann befahl er ihnen, sie sollten sich in Mahlgemeinschaften im grünen Gras lagern.
They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.
Und sie ließen sich in Gruppen zu hundert und zu fünfzig nieder.
And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all.
Darauf nahm er die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte zum Himmel auf, sprach den Lobpreis, brach die Brote und gab sie den Jüngern, damit sie diese an die Leute austeilten. Auch die zwei Fische ließ er unter allen verteilen.
and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish.
Und sie hoben Brocken auf, zwölf Körbe voll, und Reste von den Fischen.
There were five thousand men who ate the loaves.
Es waren fünftausend Männer, die von den Broten gegessen hatten.
Jesus Walks on the Water
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away.
Gleich darauf drängte er seine Jünger, ins Boot zu steigen und ans andere Ufer nach Betsaida vorauszufahren. Er selbst wollte inzwischen die Leute nach Hause schicken.
After bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray.
Nachdem er sich von ihnen verabschiedet hatte, ging er auf einen Berg, um zu beten.
When it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land.
Als es Abend wurde, war das Boot mitten auf dem See, er aber war allein an Land.
Seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them.
Und er sah, wie sie sich beim Rudern abmühten, denn sie hatten Gegenwind. In der vierten Nachtwache kam er zu ihnen; er ging auf dem See, wollte aber an ihnen vorübergehen.
But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;
Als sie ihn über den See gehen sahen, meinten sie, es sei ein Gespenst, und schrien auf.
for they all saw Him and were terrified. But immediately He spoke with them and said to them, “Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid.”
Alle sahen ihn und erschraken. Doch er begann mit ihnen zu reden und sagte: Habt Vertrauen, ich bin es; fürchtet euch nicht!
Then He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were utterly astonished,
Dann stieg er zu ihnen ins Boot und der Wind legte sich. Sie aber waren bestürzt und fassungslos.
for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened.
Denn sie waren nicht zur Einsicht gekommen, als das mit den Broten geschah; ihr Herz war verstockt.
Healing at Gennesaret
When they had crossed over they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.
Sie fuhren auf das Ufer zu, kamen nach Gennesaret und legten dort an.
When they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,
Als sie aus dem Boot stiegen, erkannte man ihn sogleich.
and ran about that whole country and began to carry here and there on their pallets those who were sick, to the place they heard He was.
Die Menschen eilten durch die ganze Gegend und brachten die Kranken auf Liegen zu ihm, sobald sie hörten, wo er war.
Wherever He entered villages, or cities, or countryside, they were laying the sick in the market places, and imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were being cured.
Und immer, wenn er in ein Dorf oder eine Stadt oder zu einem Gehöft kam, trug man die Kranken auf die Straße hinaus und bat ihn, er möge sie wenigstens den Saum seines Gewandes berühren lassen. Und alle, die ihn berührten, wurden geheilt.
