The Gerasene Demoniac
They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.

When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him,
Als er aus dem Boot stieg, lief ihm ein Mensch entgegen, der von einem unreinen Geist besessen war.
and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain;
Er hauste in den Grabstätten. Nicht einmal mit einer Kette konnte man ihn bändigen.
because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
Schon oft hatte man ihn mit Fußfesseln und Ketten gebunden, aber er hatte die Ketten zerrissen und die Fußfesseln durchgescheuert; niemand konnte ihn bezwingen.
Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.
Bei Tag und Nacht schrie er unaufhörlich in den Grabstätten und auf den Bergen und schlug sich mit Steinen.
Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him;
Als er Jesus von Weitem sah, lief er zu ihm hin, warf sich vor ihm nieder
and shouting with a loud voice, he said, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!”
und schrie laut: Was habe ich mit dir zu tun, Jesus, Sohn des höchsten Gottes? Ich beschwöre dich bei Gott, quäle mich nicht!
For He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”
Jesus hatte nämlich zu ihm gesagt: Verlass diesen Menschen, du unreiner Geist!
And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he said to Him, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”
Jesus fragte ihn: Wie heißt du? Er antwortete: Mein Name ist Legion; denn wir sind viele.
And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.
Und er flehte Jesus an, sie nicht aus diesem Gebiet fortzuschicken.
Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain.
Nun weidete dort an einem Berghang gerade eine große Schweineherde.
The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.”
Da baten ihn die Dämonen: Schick uns in die Schweine!
Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.
Jesus erlaubte es ihnen. Darauf verließen die unreinen Geister den Menschen und fuhren in die Schweine und die Herde stürmte den Abhang hinab in den See. Es waren etwa zweitausend Tiere und alle ertranken.
Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.
Die Hirten flohen und erzählten es in der Stadt und in den Dörfern. Darauf eilten die Leute herbei, um zu sehen, was geschehen war.
They came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the “legion”; and they became frightened.
Sie kamen zu Jesus und sahen bei ihm den Mann, der von der Legion Dämonen besessen gewesen war, bekleidet und bei Verstand. Da fürchteten sie sich.
Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine.
Die es gesehen hatten, berichteten ihnen, wie es mit dem Besessenen und den Schweinen geschehen war.
And they began to implore Him to leave their region.
Darauf baten die Leute Jesus, ihr Gebiet zu verlassen.
As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him.
Als er ins Boot stieg, bat ihn der Mann, der zuvor von den Dämonen besessen war, dass er bei ihm sein dürfe.
And He did not let him, but He said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”
Aber Jesus erlaubte es ihm nicht, sondern sagte: Geh nach Hause und berichte deiner Familie alles, was der Herr für dich getan und wie er Erbarmen mit dir gehabt hat!
And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.
Da ging der Mann weg und verkündete in der ganzen Dekapolis, was Jesus für ihn getan hatte, und alle staunten.
Miracles and Healing
When Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore.
Jesus fuhr wieder ans andere Ufer hinüber und eine große Menschenmenge versammelte sich um ihn. Während er noch am See war,
One of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up, and on seeing Him, fell at His feet
kam einer der Synagogenvorsteher namens Jaïrus zu ihm. Als er Jesus sah, fiel er ihm zu Füßen
and implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.”
und flehte ihn um Hilfe an; er sagte: Meine Tochter liegt im Sterben. Komm und leg ihr die Hände auf, damit sie geheilt wird und am Leben bleibt!
And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.
Da ging Jesus mit ihm. Viele Menschen folgten ihm und drängten sich um ihn.
A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years,
Darunter war eine Frau, die schon zwölf Jahre an Blutfluss litt.
and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse —
Sie war von vielen Ärzten behandelt worden und hatte dabei sehr zu leiden; ihr ganzes Vermögen hatte sie ausgegeben, aber es hatte ihr nichts genutzt, sondern ihr Zustand war immer schlimmer geworden.
after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak.
Sie hatte von Jesus gehört. Nun drängte sie sich in der Menge von hinten heran und berührte sein Gewand.
For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.”
Denn sie sagte sich: Wenn ich auch nur sein Gewand berühre, werde ich geheilt.
Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
Und sofort versiegte die Quelle des Blutes und sie spürte in ihrem Leib, dass sie von ihrem Leiden geheilt war.
Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”
Im selben Augenblick fühlte Jesus, dass eine Kraft von ihm ausströmte, und er wandte sich in dem Gedränge um und fragte: Wer hat mein Gewand berührt?
And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
Seine Jünger sagten zu ihm: Du siehst doch, wie sich die Leute um dich drängen, und da fragst du: Wer hat mich berührt?
And He looked around to see the woman who had done this.
Er blickte umher, um zu sehen, wer es getan hatte.
But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.
Da kam die Frau, zitternd vor Furcht, weil sie wusste, was mit ihr geschehen war; sie fiel vor ihm nieder und sagte ihm die ganze Wahrheit.
And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”
Er aber sagte zu ihr: Meine Tochter, dein Glaube hat dich gerettet. Geh in Frieden! Du sollst von deinem Leiden geheilt sein.
While He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?”
Während Jesus noch redete, kamen Leute, die zum Haus des Synagogenvorstehers gehörten, und sagten: Deine Tochter ist gestorben. Warum bemühst du den Meister noch länger?
But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.”
Jesus, der diese Worte gehört hatte, sagte zu dem Synagogenvorsteher: Fürchte dich nicht! Glaube nur!
And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.
Und er ließ keinen mitkommen außer Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes, den Bruder des Jakobus.
They came to the house of the synagogue official; and He saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.
Sie gingen zum Haus des Synagogenvorstehers. Als Jesus den Tumult sah und wie sie heftig weinten und klagten,
And entering in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.”
trat er ein und sagte zu ihnen: Warum schreit und weint ihr? Das Kind ist nicht gestorben, es schläft nur.
They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was.
Da lachten sie ihn aus. Er aber warf alle hinaus und nahm den Vater des Kindes und die Mutter und die, die mit ihm waren, und ging in den Raum, in dem das Kind lag.
Taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).
Er fasste das Kind an der Hand und sagte zu ihm: Talita kum!, das heißt übersetzt: Mädchen, ich sage dir, steh auf!
Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.
Sofort stand das Mädchen auf und ging umher. Es war zwölf Jahre alt. Die Leute waren ganz fassungslos vor Entsetzen.
