The Transfiguration
And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”

Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
Sechs Tage danach nahm Jesus Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes beiseite und führte sie auf einen hohen Berg, aber nur sie allein. Und er wurde vor ihnen verwandelt;
and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
seine Kleider wurden strahlend weiß, so weiß, wie sie auf Erden kein Bleicher machen kann.
Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
Da erschien ihnen Elija und mit ihm Mose und sie redeten mit Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Petrus sagte zu Jesus: Rabbi, es ist gut, dass wir hier sind. Wir wollen drei Hütten bauen, eine für dich, eine für Mose und eine für Elija.
For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
Er wusste nämlich nicht, was er sagen sollte; denn sie waren vor Furcht ganz benommen.
Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!”
Da kam eine Wolke und überschattete sie und es erscholl eine Stimme aus der Wolke: Dieser ist mein geliebter Sohn; auf ihn sollt ihr hören.
All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
Als sie dann um sich blickten, sahen sie auf einmal niemanden mehr bei sich außer Jesus.
As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
Während sie den Berg hinabstiegen, gebot er ihnen, niemandem zu erzählen, was sie gesehen hatten, bis der Menschensohn von den Toten auferstanden sei.
They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
Dieses Wort beschäftigte sie und sie fragten einander, was das sei: von den Toten auferstehen.
They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
Da fragten sie ihn: Warum sagen die Schriftgelehrten, zuerst müsse Elija kommen?
And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
Er antwortete: Ja, Elija kommt zuerst und stellt alles wieder her. Aber warum heißt es dann vom Menschensohn in der Schrift, er werde viel leiden müssen und verachtet werden?
“But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
Ich sage euch: Elija ist schon gekommen, doch sie haben mit ihm gemacht, was sie wollten, wie es in der Schrift steht.
All Things Possible
When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.
Als sie zu den anderen Jüngern zurückkamen, sahen sie eine große Menschenmenge um sie versammelt und Schriftgelehrte, die mit ihnen stritten.
Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.
Sobald die Leute Jesus sahen, liefen sie in großer Erregung auf ihn zu und begrüßten ihn.
And He asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”

And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;
Einer aus der Menge antwortete ihm: Meister, ich habe meinen Sohn zu dir gebracht. Er ist von einem stummen Geist besessen;
and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.”
immer wenn der Geist ihn überfällt, wirft er ihn zu Boden und meinem Sohn tritt Schaum vor den Mund, er knirscht mit den Zähnen und wird starr. Ich habe schon deine Jünger gebeten, den Geist auszutreiben, aber sie hatten nicht die Kraft dazu.
And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”
Da sagte er zu ihnen: O du ungläubige Generation! Wie lange muss ich noch bei euch sein? Wie lange muss ich euch noch ertragen? Bringt ihn zu mir!
They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
Und man führte ihn herbei. Sobald der Geist Jesus sah, zerrte er den Jungen hin und her, sodass er hinfiel und sich mit Schaum vor dem Mund auf dem Boden wälzte.
And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
Jesus fragte den Vater: Wie lange hat er das schon? Der Vater antwortete: Von Kind auf;
“It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
oft hat er ihn sogar ins Feuer oder ins Wasser geworfen, um ihn umzubringen. Doch wenn du kannst, hilf uns; hab Mitleid mit uns!
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”
Jesus sagte zu ihm: Wenn du kannst? Alles kann, wer glaubt.
Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
Da rief der Vater des Knaben: Ich glaube; hilf meinem Unglauben!
When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
Als Jesus sah, dass die Leute zusammenliefen, drohte er dem unreinen Geist und sagte: Ich befehle dir, du stummer und tauber Geist: Verlass ihn und kehr nicht mehr in ihn zurück!
After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”
Da zerrte der Geist den Knaben hin und her und verließ ihn mit lautem Geschrei. Er lag da wie tot, sodass alle Leute sagten: Er ist gestorben.
But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
Jesus aber fasste ihn an der Hand und richtete ihn auf und er erhob sich.
When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not drive it out?”
Jesus trat in das Haus und seine Jünger fragten ihn, als sie allein waren: Warum konnten denn wir den Dämon nicht austreiben?
And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”
Er antwortete ihnen: Diese Art kann nur durch Gebet ausgetrieben werden.
Death and Resurrection Foretold
From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it.
Sie gingen von dort weg und zogen durch Galiläa. Er wollte aber nicht, dass jemand davon erfuhr;
For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”
denn er belehrte seine Jünger und sagte zu ihnen: Der Menschensohn wird in die Hände von Menschen ausgeliefert und sie werden ihn töten; doch drei Tage nach seinem Tod wird er auferstehen.
But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
Aber sie verstanden das Wort nicht, fürchteten sich jedoch, ihn zu fragen.
They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
Sie kamen nach Kafarnaum. Als er dann im Haus war, fragte er sie: Worüber habt ihr auf dem Weg gesprochen?
But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
Sie schwiegen, denn sie hatten auf dem Weg miteinander darüber gesprochen, wer der Größte sei.
Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Da setzte er sich, rief die Zwölf und sagte zu ihnen: Wer der Erste sein will, soll der Letzte von allen und der Diener aller sein.
Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,
Und er stellte ein Kind in ihre Mitte, nahm es in seine Arme und sagte zu ihnen:
“Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
Wer ein solches Kind in meinem Namen aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt nicht nur mich auf, sondern den, der mich gesandt hat.
Dire Warnings
John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.”
Da sagte Johannes zu ihm: Meister, wir haben gesehen, wie jemand in deinem Namen Dämonen austrieb; und wir versuchten, ihn daran zu hindern, weil er uns nicht nachfolgt.
But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.
Jesus erwiderte: Hindert ihn nicht! Keiner, der in meinem Namen eine Machttat vollbringt, kann so leicht schlecht von mir reden.
“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
Wer euch auch nur einen Becher Wasser zu trinken gibt, weil ihr zu Christus gehört — Amen, ich sage euch: Er wird gewiss nicht um seinen Lohn kommen.
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
Wer einem von diesen Kleinen, die an mich glauben, Ärgernis gibt, für den wäre es besser, wenn er mit einem Mühlstein um den Hals ins Meer geworfen würde.
“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,
Wenn dir deine Hand Ärgernis gibt, dann hau sie ab; es ist besser für dich, verstümmelt in das Leben zu gelangen, als mit zwei Händen in die Hölle zu kommen, in das nie erlöschende Feuer. [44]
“If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell,
Und wenn dir dein Fuß Ärgernis gibt, dann hau ihn ab; es ist besser für dich, lahm in das Leben zu gelangen, als mit zwei Füßen in die Hölle geworfen zu werden. [46]
“If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell,
Und wenn dir dein Auge Ärgernis gibt, dann reiß es aus; es ist besser für dich, einäugig in das Reich Gottes zu kommen, als mit zwei Augen in die Hölle geworfen zu werden,
where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.
wo ihr Wurm nicht stirbt und das Feuer nicht erlischt.
“Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
Das Salz ist etwas Gutes. Wenn das Salz die Kraft zum Salzen verliert, womit wollt ihr ihm seine Würze wiedergeben? Habt Salz in euch und haltet Frieden untereinander!
