Melchizedek’s Priesthood Like Christ’s
For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

Dieser Melchisedek, König von Salem und Priester des höchsten Gottes; er, der dem Abraham, als dieser nach der Unterwerfung der Könige zurückkam, entgegenging und ihn segnete
to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.
und welchem Abraham den Zehnten von allem gab; er, dessen Name König der Gerechtigkeit bedeutet und der auch König von Salem ist, das heißt König des Friedens;
Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.
er, der vaterlos, mutterlos und ohne Stammbaum ist, ohne Anfang seiner Tage und ohne Ende seines Lebens, ähnlich geworden dem Sohn Gottes: Dieser Melchisedek bleibt Priester für immer.
Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.
Seht doch, wie groß der ist, dem selbst Abraham, der Patriarch, den Zehnten vom Besten der Beute gab!
And those indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest’s office have commandment in the Law to collect a tenth from the people, that is, from their brethren, although these are descended from Abraham.
Zwar haben auch die von den Söhnen Levis, die das Priesteramt empfangen, den Auftrag, den Zehnten gemäß dem Gesetz vom Volk, das heißt von ihren Brüdern, zu erheben, obwohl auch diese aus der Lende Abrahams hervorgegangen sind;
But the one whose genealogy is not traced from them collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed the one who had the promises.
jener aber, der seinen Stammbaum nicht von ihnen herleitet, hat von Abraham den Zehnten genommen und den Träger der Verheißungen gesegnet.
But without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater.
Zweifellos wird aber immer das Geringere vom Höheren gesegnet.
In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives on.
Und hier nehmen den Zehnten sterbliche Menschen, dort aber einer, von dem bezeugt wird, dass er lebt.
And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, paid tithes,
Und in Abraham hat sozusagen auch Levi, der den Zehnten nimmt, den Zehnten entrichtet;
for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.
denn er war noch in der Lende des Stammvaters, als Melchisedek ihm entgegenging!
Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron?
Wäre nun die Vollendung durch das levitische Priestertum gekommen — das Volk hat ja darüber gesetzliche Bestimmungen erhalten — , warum musste dann noch ein anderer Priester nach der Ordnung Melchisedeks eingesetzt und nicht nach der Ordnung Aarons benannt werden?
For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.
Denn sobald das Priestertum geändert wird, ändert sich notwendig auch das Gesetz.
For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.
Der nämlich, von dem das gesagt wird, gehört einem anderen Stamm an, von dem keiner jemals am Altar gedient hat;
For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.
es ist ja bekannt, dass unser Herr aus Juda entsprossen ist; und über Priester aus diesem Stamm hat Mose nichts gesagt.
And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek,
Das ist noch viel offenkundiger, wenn nach dem Vorbild Melchisedeks ein anderer Priester eingesetzt wird,
who has become such not on the basis of a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life.
der nicht, wie das Gesetz es fordert, aufgrund leiblicher Abstammung Priester geworden ist, sondern durch die Kraft unzerstörbaren Lebens.
For it is attested of Him,
“YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER
ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.”

Denn es wird bezeugt: Du bist Priester auf ewig nach der Ordnung Melchisedeks.
For, on the one hand, there is a setting aside of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness
Das frühere Gebot wird zwar aufgehoben, weil es schwach und nutzlos war —
(for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
denn das Gesetz hat nicht zur Vollendung geführt — , eingeführt aber wird eine bessere Hoffnung, durch die wir Gott nahekommen.
And inasmuch as it was not without an oath
Und das geschah nicht ohne Eid. Denn jene sind ohne Eid Priester geworden
(for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,
“THE LORD HAS SWORN
AND WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND,
‘YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER’”);
“THE LORD HAS SWORN
AND WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND,
‘YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER’”);
dieser aber durch einen Eid dessen, der zu ihm sprach: Der Herr hat geschworen und nie wird es ihn reuen: Du bist Priester auf ewig.
so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
So ist auch Jesus zum Bürgen eines besseren Bundes geworden.
The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing,
Auch folgten dort viele Priester aufeinander, weil der Tod sie hinderte zu bleiben;
but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.
er aber hat, weil er in Ewigkeit bleibt, ein unvergängliches Priestertum.
Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Darum kann er auch die, die durch ihn vor Gott hintreten, für immer retten; denn er lebt allezeit, um für sie einzutreten.
For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;
Ein solcher Hohepriester ziemte sich in der Tat für uns: einer, der heilig ist, frei vom Bösen, makellos, abgesondert von den Sündern und erhöht über die Himmel;
who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
einer, der es nicht Tag für Tag nötig hat, wie die Hohepriester zuerst für die eigenen Sünden Opfer darzubringen und dann für die des Volkes; denn das hat er ein für alle mal getan, als er sich selbst dargebracht hat.
For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever.
Das Gesetz nämlich macht Menschen zu Hohepriestern, die der Schwachheit unterworfen sind; das Wort des Eides aber, der später als das Gesetz kam, setzt den Sohn ein, der auf ewig vollendet ist.
