    A Psalm of Asaph.

    O God, the [a]nations have come into Your inheritance;
    Your holy temple they have defiled;
    They have laid Jerusalem [b]in heaps.

    Ein Lied von Asaf. Gott, fremde Völker sind in das Land eingefallen, das du dir zum Eigentum erwählt hast. Sie haben deinen heiligen Tempel entweiht und Jerusalem in einen Trümmerhaufen verwandelt.

    The dead bodies of Your servants
    They have given as food for the birds of the heavens,
    The flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.

    Sie haben alle umgebracht, die dir dienten und dir die Treue hielten. Ihre Leichen ließen sie achtlos liegen, als Fraß für die Geier und die wilden Tiere.

    Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem,
    And there was no one to bury them.

    We have become a reproach to our neighbors,
    A scorn and derision to those who are around us.

    How long, Lord?
    Will You be angry forever?
    Will Your jealousy burn like fire?

    HERR, wie lange willst du noch zornig auf uns sein? Soll dein Zorn für immer so weiterbrennen wie ein Feuer?

    Pour out Your wrath on the [c]nations that do not know You,
    And on the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.

    Gieß ihn doch über die Völker aus, die dich nicht anerkennen, und über die Königreiche, die deinen Namen nicht anrufen!

    For they have devoured Jacob,
    And laid waste his dwelling place.

    Denn sie haben dein Volk vernichtet und seine Heimat verwüstet.

    Oh, do not remember [d]former iniquities against us!
    Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us,
    For we have been brought very low.

    Strafe uns doch nicht für die Sünden unserer Vorfahren! Zögere nicht, erbarme dich über uns, denn wir sind am Ende unserer Kraft!

    Help us, O God of our salvation,
    For the glory of Your name;
    And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins,
    For Your name’s sake!

    Hilf uns, Gott, unser Retter, damit dein Name gerühmt wird! Steh uns bei und vergib uns unsere Schuld — es geht doch um deine Ehre!

    Why should the [e]nations say,
    “Where is their God?”
    Let there be known among the nations in our sight
    The avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed.

    Warum sollen die fremden Völker spotten: »Wo bleibt er denn, ihr Gott?« Zeige ihnen, wie du das Blut deiner Diener an den Feinden rächst! Lass uns das noch erleben!

    Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You;
    According to the greatness of Your [f]power
    Preserve those who are appointed to die;

    Lass das Stöhnen der Gefangenen zu dir dringen! Du hast grenzenlose Macht; darum rette die, denen man das Leben nehmen will!

    And return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom
    Their reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord.

    Herr, unsere Nachbarvölker haben dich beleidigt und verspottet. Zahle es ihnen siebenfach zurück!

    So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture,
    Will give You thanks forever;
    We will show forth Your praise to all generations.

    Wir aber sind dein Volk, wir gehören zu dir wie Schafe zu ihrem Hirten. Allezeit wollen wir dich loben und jeder neuen Generation erzählen, wie groß du bist!
