    God Pleads with Israel

    Hear now what the Lord says:
    “Arise, plead your case before the mountains,
    And let the hills hear your voice.

    Hört doch, was der HERR sagt: Auf, tritt an zum Rechtsstreit mit den Bergen, die Hügel sollen deine Stimme hören!

    Hear, O you mountains, the Lord’s complaint,
    And you strong foundations of the earth;
    For the Lord has a complaint against His people,
    And He will [a]contend with Israel.

    Hört, ihr Berge, den Rechtsstreit des HERRN, und ihr beständigen Fundamente der Erde! Denn der HERR hat einen Rechtsstreit mit seinem Volk, er geht mit Israel ins Gericht:

    “O My people, what have I done to you?
    And how have I wearied you?
    Testify against Me.

    Mein Volk, was habe ich dir getan und womit habe ich dich ermüdet? Antworte mir!

    For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
    I redeemed you from the house of bondage;
    And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

    Fürwahr, ich habe dich aus dem Land Ägypten heraufgeführt und dich freigekauft aus dem Sklavenhaus. Ich habe Mose vor dir hergesandt und Aaron und Mirjam.

    O My people, remember now
    What Balak king of Moab counseled,
    And what Balaam the son of Beor answered him,
    From [b]Acacia Grove to Gilgal,
    That you may know the righteousness of the Lord.”

    Mein Volk, denke doch an das, was Balak plante, der König von Moab, und was ihm Bileam antwortete, der Sohn des Beor, was zwischen Schittim und Gilgal geschah, damit du die gerechten Taten des HERRN erkennst!

    With what shall I come before the Lord,
    And bow myself before the High God?
    Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings,
    With calves a year old?

    Womit soll ich vor den HERRN treten, mich beugen vor dem Gott der Höhe? Soll ich mit Brandopfern vor ihn treten, mit einjährigen Kälbern?

    Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
    Ten thousand rivers of oil?
    Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
    [c]The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

    Hat der HERR Gefallen an Tausenden von Widdern, an zehntausend Bächen von Öl? Soll ich meinen Erstgeborenen hingeben für meine Vergehen, die Frucht meines Leibes für meine Sünde?

    He has shown you, O man, what is good;
    And what does the Lord require of you
    But to do justly,
    To love [d]mercy,
    And to walk humbly with your God?

    Es ist dir gesagt worden, Mensch, was gut ist und was der HERR von dir erwartet: Nichts anderes als dies: Recht tun, Güte lieben und achtsam mitgehen mit deinem Gott.

    Punishment of Israel’s Injustice

    The Lord’s voice cries to the city —
    Wisdom shall see Your name:
    “Hear the rod!
    Who has appointed it?

    Die Stimme des HERRN ruft der Stadt zu: Klug ist es, deinen Namen zu fürchten. — Höre, du Stammesvolk und wer es befehligt!

    Are there yet the treasures of wickedness
    In the house of the wicked,
    And the short measure that is an abomination?

    Kann ich vergessen das Haus des Frevlers, die frevlerisch erworbenen Schätze und das geschrumpfte Maß, das verdammte?

    Shall I count pure those with the wicked scales,
    And with the bag of deceitful weights?

    Soll ich freisprechen bei ungerechter Waage und bei einem Beutel mit falschen Gewichten?

    For her rich men are full of violence,
    Her inhabitants have spoken lies,
    And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

    Ja, die Reichen in der Stadt sind voll von Gewalttat und ihre Bewohner reden Lüge und ihre Zunge ist trügerisch in ihrem Mund.

    “Therefore I will also make you sick by striking you,
    By making you desolate because of your sins.

    Deshalb habe ich begonnen, dich zu schlagen, dich wegen deiner Sünden zu verwüsten.

    You shall eat, but not be satisfied;
    [e]Hunger shall be in your midst.
    You may carry some away,[f] but shall not save them;
    And what you do rescue I will give over to the sword.

    Du wirst essen und nicht satt werden — und dein Kot bleibt in dir. Du wirst beiseiteschaffen und nichts retten. Was du rettest, übergebe ich dem Schwert.

    “You shall sow, but not reap;
    You shall tread the olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil;
    And make sweet wine, but not drink wine.

    Du wirst säen und nicht ernten; du wirst Oliven pressen und dich nicht mit Öl salben; du wirst Trauben keltern und keinen Wein trinken.

    For the statutes of Omri are kept;
    All the works of Ahab’s house are done;
    And you walk in their counsels,
    That I may make you a [g]desolation,
    And your inhabitants a hissing.
    Therefore you shall bear the reproach of [h]My people.”

    Man hat sich nach Omris Satzungen gerichtet und nach all den bösen Taten des Hauses Ahab; nach ihren Ratschlägen seid ihr gewandelt. Darum mache ich dich zur schauerlichen Wüste und deine Bewohner zum Gespött. Ihr müsst es ertragen, dass euch die Völker verhöhnen.
