“Never sacrifice sick or defective cattle, sheep, or goats to the LORD your God, for he detests such gifts.
Er verabscheut es auch, wenn ihr ihm kranke oder minderwertige Rinder, Schafe oder Ziegen opfert.
“When you begin living in the towns the LORD your God is giving you, a man or woman among you might do evil in the sight of the LORD your God and violate the covenant.
Es kann geschehen, dass in einer der Städte, die der HERR, euer Gott, euch gibt, ein Mann oder eine Frau andere Götter verehren. Sie beten die Sonne, den Mond oder die Sterne an und widersetzen sich damit meinen Weisungen. Sie handeln gegen den Willen des HERRN und verletzen den Bund, den er mit uns geschlossen hat.
When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel,
Wenn ihr davon hört, dann forscht genau nach, ob es wahr ist. Stellt sich heraus, dass tatsächlich etwas so Abscheuliches in Israel geschehen ist,
then the man or woman who has committed such an evil act must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death.

But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness. There must always be two or three witnesses.
Für ein Todesurteil sind jedoch mindestens zwei oder drei Zeugen nötig. Eine einzelne Aussage genügt nicht.
The witnesses must throw the first stones, and then all the people may join in. In this way, you will purge the evil from among you.
Die Zeugen sollen die ersten Steine werfen, um den Verurteilten zu töten, danach sollen alle anderen ihn steinigen. Ihr müsst das Böse aus eurem Volk beseitigen!
“Suppose a case arises in a local court that is too hard for you to decide — for instance, whether someone is guilty of murder or only of manslaughter, or a difficult lawsuit, or a case involving different kinds of assault. Take such legal cases to the place the LORD your God will choose,
Wenn den Richtern in eurer Stadt ein Fall zu schwierig ist, dann kommt zum Heiligtum — ganz gleich ob es dabei um Tötung, Körperverletzung oder etwas anderes geht.
and present them to the Levitical priests or the judge on duty at that time. They will hear the case and declare the verdict.
Wendet euch dort an die Priester vom Stamm Levi und an den Richter, der gerade im Amt ist, und legt ihnen den Fall vor. Sie werden ein Urteil sprechen.
You must carry out the verdict they announce and the sentence they prescribe at the place the LORD chooses. You must do exactly what they say.
Daran müsst ihr euch halten. Was sie dort entscheiden, wo der HERR wohnt, das gilt.
After they have interpreted the law and declared their verdict, the sentence they impose must be fully executed; do not modify it in any way.
Befolgt ihre Anweisungen und Vorschriften genau! Weicht in keiner Hinsicht davon ab!
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must die. In this way you will purge the evil from Israel.
Wenn jemand so vermessen ist, dass er nicht auf den Richter oder den Priester hört, der im Auftrag des HERRN, eures Gottes, sein Amt ausübt, dann soll er getötet werden. Ihr müsst das Böse aus Israel beseitigen!
Then everyone else will hear about it and be afraid to act so arrogantly.
Alle sollen davon hören, damit sie gewarnt sind und sich niemand mehr so etwas anmaßt.
Guidelines for a King
“You are about to enter the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you take it over and settle there, you may think, ‘We should select a king to rule over us like the other nations around us.’
Bald werdet ihr das Land in Besitz nehmen, das der HERR, euer Gott, euch geben will. Vielleicht werdet ihr dort eines Tages sagen: »Wir wollen einen König haben, so wie alle anderen Völker ringsum!«
If this happens, be sure to select as king the man the LORD your God chooses. You must appoint a fellow Israelite; he may not be a foreigner.
Dann ernennt aber nur den zum König, den der HERR, euer Gott, erwählt! Er soll aus eurem Volk stammen. Ihr dürft keinen Ausländer einsetzen, sondern nur einen Israeliten!
“The king must not build up a large stable of horses for himself or send his people to Egypt to buy horses, for the LORD has told you, ‘You must never return to Egypt.’
Wenn er König geworden ist, soll er kein großes Reiterheer aufbauen. Er darf auch niemanden von euch nach Ägypten schicken, um von dort noch mehr Pferde zu bekommen. Denn der HERR hat euch verboten, nach Ägypten zurückzukehren.
The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from the LORD. And he must not accumulate large amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.
Euer König soll auch nicht viele Frauen haben, denn sie könnten ihn dazu verleiten, dem Herrn untreu zu werden. Er darf auch kein Gold und Silber anhäufen.
“When he sits on the throne as king, he must copy for himself this body of instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests.
Wenn er den Thron seines Reiches besteigt, soll er sich eine Abschrift von diesem Gesetz geben lassen, das bei den Priestern aus dem Stamm Levi aufbewahrt wird.
He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the LORD his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees.
Er muss sie immer bei sich haben und täglich darin lesen, solange er lebt. So soll er lernen, Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN, seinem Gott, zu haben und alle Ordnungen dieses Gesetzes genau zu befolgen.
This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.
Das wird ihn davor bewahren, sich für wichtiger zu halten als die anderen Menschen aus seinem Volk. Wenn er in keiner Hinsicht von diesen Geboten abweicht, werden er und seine Nachkommen lange Zeit in Israel Könige sein.
