But there remained seven tribes who had not yet been allotted their grants of land.
Sieben Stämme hatten sich noch kein eigenes Gebiet zuteilen lassen.
Then Joshua asked them, “How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has given to you?
Josua ermahnte sie: »Wie lange wollt ihr noch so träge sein? Wann endlich werdet ihr das Land in Besitz nehmen, das euch der HERR, der Gott eurer Väter, gegeben hat?
Select three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to explore the land and map it out. They will then return to me with a written report of their proposed divisions of their new homeland.
Wählt drei Männer aus jedem Stamm! In meinem Auftrag sollen sie im Land umherziehen, die Städte und Gebiete in Listen eintragen und dann wieder zu mir kommen.
Let them divide the land into seven sections, excluding Judah’s territory in the south and Joseph’s territory in the north.
Sie sollen das Land in sieben Abschnitte aufteilen, dabei aber die Grenzen von Juda im Süden und von Josef im Norden unverletzt lassen.
And when you record the seven divisions of the land and bring them to me, I will cast sacred lots in the presence of the LORD our God to assign land to each tribe.
Sie schreiben auf, wo die Grenzen der sieben neuen Stammesgebiete verlaufen sollen, und bringen mir die Verzeichnisse. Dann werde ich hier in der Gegenwart des HERRN, unseres Gottes, das Los werfen und euch das Land zuteilen.
“The Levites, however, will not receive any allotment of land. Their role as priests of the LORD is their allotment. And the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh won’t receive any more land, for they have already received their grant of land, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave them on the east side of the Jordan River.”
Nur die Leviten bleiben ohne Gebiet. Dafür dürfen sie Priester des HERRN sein. Auch die Stämme Gad und Ruben und der halbe Stamm Manasse bekommen nichts mehr zugeteilt, denn sie haben bereits östlich des Jordan Land erhalten. Mose, der Diener des HERRN, hat es ihnen gegeben.«
As the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua commanded them, “Go and explore the land and write a description of it. Then return to me, and I will assign the land to the tribes by casting sacred lots here in the presence of the LORD at Shiloh.”
Die Männer, die man ausgesucht hatte, machten sich zum Aufbruch fertig. Josua befahl ihnen: »Geht durch das ganze Land und schreibt alle Städte auf! Wenn ihr fertig seid, bringt eure Verzeichnisse zu mir. Ich werde dann hier in Silo vor dem HERRN das Los für euch werfen.«
The men did as they were told and mapped the entire territory into seven sections, listing the towns in each section. They made a written record and then returned to Joshua in the camp at Shiloh.
Die Männer brachen auf, durchzogen das Land und fertigten eine Liste aller Städte an. Sie teilten das Land in sieben Gebiete auf und verzeichneten alles auf einer Schriftrolle, die sie Josua im Lager bei Silo übergaben.
And there at Shiloh, Joshua cast sacred lots in the presence of the LORD to determine which tribe should have each section.
Dort warf Josua in der Gegenwart des HERRN das Los und teilte den restlichen sieben Stämmen und ihren Sippen die Gebiete zu.
The Land Given to Benjamin
The first allotment of land went to the clans of the tribe of Benjamin. It lay between the territory assigned to the tribes of Judah and Joseph.
Das erste Los fiel auf den Stamm Benjamin. Er erhielt für seine Sippen ein Gebiet zwischen den Stämmen Juda und Josef.
The northern boundary of Benjamin’s land began at the Jordan River, went north of the slope of Jericho, then west through the hill country and the wilderness of Beth-aven.
Seine Nordgrenze begann am Jordan, führte zum Höhenzug nördlich von Jericho hinauf und in westlicher Richtung durch die Berge bis zur Steppe von Bet-Awen.
From there the boundary went south to Luz (that is, Bethel) and proceeded down to Ataroth-addar on the hill that lies south of Lower Beth-horon.
Von dort ging sie nach Lus, dem heutigen Bethel, auf dem Höhenzug südlich an der Stadt vorbei, nach Atrot-Addar hinab und bis zu dem Hügel, der südlich des unteren Bet-Horon liegt.
The boundary then made a turn and swung south along the western edge of the hill facing Beth-horon, ending at the village of Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a town belonging to the tribe of Judah. This was the western boundary.
Dort wandte sie sich nach Süden und führte als Westgrenze bis nach Kirjat-Baal, dem heutigen Kirjat-Jearim, das zu Juda gehörte.

and down to the base of the mountain beside the valley of Ben-Hinnom, at the northern end of the valley of Rephaim. From there it went down the valley of Hinnom, crossing south of the slope where the Jebusites lived, and continued down to En-rogel.
Dann führte sie zum Fuß des Berges hinab, der westlich vom Hinnomtal und nördlich der Refaïm-Ebene liegt. Sie durchquerte das Hinnomtal südlich der Jebusiterstadt und erreichte die Quelle Rogel.
From En-rogel the boundary proceeded in a northerly direction and came to En-shemesh and on to Geliloth (which is across from the slopes of Adummim). Then it went down to the Stone of Bohan. (Bohan was Reuben’s son.)

The Towns Given to Benjamin
These were the towns given to the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,

Kephar-ammoni, Ophni, and Geba — twelve towns with their surrounding villages.
Kefar-Ammoni, Ofni und Geba. Es waren zwölf Städte mit ihren Dörfern.
Zela, Elef, die Jebusiterstadt — also Jerusalem —, Gibea und Kirjat-Jearim: zusammen 14 Städte mit ihren Dörfern. Diese Städte gehörten dem Stamm Benjamin und seinen Sippen.
