Denn alles, was in der Welt ist: des Fleisches Lust und der Augen Lust und hoffärtiges Leben, ist nicht vom Vater, sondern von der Welt.

Was gehört nun zum Wesen dieser Welt? Selbstsüchtige Wünsche, die Gier nach allem, was einem ins Auge fällt, das Prahlen mit Wohlstand und Macht. All dies kommt nicht von Gott, unserem Vater, sondern gehört zur Welt.

Denn alles, was in der Welt ist, die Begierde des Fleisches, die Begierde der Augen und das Prahlen mit dem Besitz, ist nicht vom Vater, sondern von der Welt.
