Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.

Als sie ostwärts aufbrachen, fanden sie eine Ebene im Land Schinar und siedelten sich dort an.
It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
Sie sagten zueinander: Auf, formen wir Lehmziegel und brennen wir sie zu Backsteinen. So dienten ihnen gebrannte Ziegel als Steine und Erdpech als Mörtel.
They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
Dann sagten sie: Auf, bauen wir uns eine Stadt und einen Turm mit einer Spitze bis in den Himmel! So wollen wir uns einen Namen machen, damit wir uns nicht über die ganze Erde zerstreuen.
They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
Da stieg der HERR herab, um sich Stadt und Turm anzusehen, die die Menschenkinder bauten.
The LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
Und der HERR sprach: Siehe, ein Volk sind sie und eine Sprache haben sie alle. Und das ist erst der Anfang ihres Tuns. Jetzt wird ihnen nichts mehr unerreichbar sein, wenn sie es sich zu tun vornehmen.
The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.
Auf, steigen wir hinab und verwirren wir dort ihre Sprache, sodass keiner mehr die Sprache des anderen versteht.
“Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
Der HERR zerstreute sie von dort aus über die ganze Erde und sie hörten auf, an der Stadt zu bauen.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.
Darum gab man der Stadt den Namen Babel, Wirrsal, denn dort hat der HERR die Sprache der ganzen Erde verwirrt und von dort aus hat er die Menschen über die ganze Erde zerstreut.
Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.
Dies ist die Geschlechterfolge Sems: Sem zeugte im Alter von hundert Jahren Arpachschad, zwei Jahre nach der Flut.
Descendants of Shem
These are the records of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old, and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood;
Nachdem Sem Arpachschad gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch fünfhundert Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and he had other sons and daughters.
Arpachschad zeugte mit fünfunddreißig Jahren Schelach.
Arpachshad lived thirty-five years, and became the father of Shelah;
Nachdem Arpachschad Schelach gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch vierhundertdrei Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Arpachshad lived four hundred and three years after he became the father of Shelah, and he had other sons and daughters.
Schelach zeugte mit dreißig Jahren Eber.
Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber;
Nachdem Schelach Eber gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch vierhundertdrei Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Shelah lived four hundred and three years after he became the father of Eber, and he had other sons and daughters.
Eber war vierunddreißig Jahre alt, da zeugte er Peleg.
Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg;
Nachdem Eber Peleg gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch vierhundertdreißig Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and he had other sons and daughters.
Peleg war dreißig Jahre alt, da zeugte er Regu.
Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu;
Nachdem Peleg Regu gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch zweihundertneun Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after he became the father of Reu, and he had other sons and daughters.
Regu war zweiunddreißig Jahre alt, da zeugte er Serug.
Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug;
Nachdem Regu Serug gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch zweihundertsieben Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Reu lived two hundred and seven years after he became the father of Serug, and he had other sons and daughters.
Serug war dreißig Jahre alt, da zeugte er Nahor.
Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor;
Nachdem Serug Nahor gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch zweihundert Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and he had other sons and daughters.
Nahor war neunundzwanzig Jahre alt, da zeugte er Terach.
Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah;
Nachdem Nahor Terach gezeugt hatte, lebte er noch hundertneunzehn Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
and Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and he had other sons and daughters.
Terach war siebzig Jahre alt, da zeugte er Abram, Nahor und Haran.
Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.
Das ist die Geschlechterfolge nach Terach: Terach zeugte Abram, Nahor und Haran; Haran zeugte Lot.
Now these are the records of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran; and Haran became the father of Lot.
Haran aber starb zu Lebzeiten seines Vaters Terach im Land seiner Verwandtschaft, in Ur in Chaldäa.
Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
Abram und Nahor nahmen sich Frauen. Der Name von Abrams Frau war Sarai. Der Name von Nahors Frau war Milka, die Tochter Harans, des Vaters der Milka und des Vaters der Jiska.
Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah.

Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to enter the land of Canaan; and they went as far as Haran, and settled there.
