Darum fasste er einen Entschluss: Auf dem Dreschplatz, wo Gott ihm geantwortet hatte, sollten einmal der Tempel Gottes, des HERRN, und der Brandopferaltar für Israel stehen.
David's Preparations for the Temple
Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.

David verpflichtete alle Ausländer in Israel als Steinhauer. Sie sollten die Quadersteine behauen, die für den Bau des Tempels gebraucht wurden.
And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.
Auch eine große Menge Eisen ließ er schon bereitstellen, um daraus die Nägel für die Torflügel und die eisernen Klammern anzufertigen. Es wurde so viel Bronze gesammelt, dass man sie gar nicht mehr wiegen konnte.
And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight;
David bestellte auch sehr viel Zedernholz. Die Sidonier und die Tyrer lieferten ihm große Mengen davon.
Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.
David dachte: »Mein Sohn Salomo ist noch jung und unerfahren. Der Tempel des HERRN aber soll ein großes Bauwerk werden, das man in allen Ländern kennt und rühmt. Darum will ich noch so viel wie möglich dafür vorbereiten.« Und so besorgte David vor seinem Tod noch sehr viel Baumaterial.
And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
David rief seinen Sohn Salomo zu sich und sagte zu ihm: »Mein Sohn, du sollst dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, einen Tempel bauen.
Solomon Anointed to Build the Temple
Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel.

Eigentlich wollte ich selbst dieses Haus für den HERRN, meinen Gott, errichten.
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
Doch der HERR hat zu mir gesagt: ›Du hast große Kriege geführt und dabei viele Menschen getötet. Weil du so viel Blut vergossen hast, sollst du mir keinen Tempel bauen.
But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
Aber du wirst einen Sohn bekommen, der ein Leben in Frieden führen wird, denn ich werde dafür sorgen, dass ihn keiner seiner Feinde angreift. Salomo (der Friedliche) wird er heißen. Unter seiner Herrschaft wird Israel in Ruhe und Frieden leben.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
Salomo wird mir einen Tempel bauen. Er wird mein Sohn sein, und ich werde sein Vater sein. Für alle Zeiten werden seine Nachkommen als Könige über Israel regieren.‹
He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.
Mein Sohn«, fuhr David fort, »der HERR möge dir beistehen und dir helfen, den Tempel des HERRN, deines Gottes, zu bauen, wie er es vorausgesagt hat.
Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee.
Er gebe dir Weisheit und Einsicht, wenn er dich als König über Israel einsetzt, damit du das Gesetz des HERRN, deines Gottes, befolgst.
Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.
Wenn du so lebst, wie es dem HERRN gefällt, und dich nach den Geboten richtest, die er Israel durch Mose gegeben hat, dann wird dir alles gelingen. Darum sei stark und entschlossen! Lass dich durch nichts entmutigen und fürchte dich nicht!
Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.
Wie du weißt, habe ich für den Bau des Tempels schon 3500 Tonnen Gold und 35.000 Tonnen Silber bereitgestellt, außerdem so viel Bronze und Eisen, dass man es nicht mehr wiegen kann. Auch für Holz und Steine habe ich schon gesorgt, doch wirst du davon noch mehr brauchen.
Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.
Handwerker sind genügend im Land: Steinhauer, Maurer, Zimmerleute und andere Facharbeiter,
Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work.
die mit Gold, Silber, Bronze und Eisen umgehen können. Es sind unzählbar viele. Mach dich also an die Arbeit! Der HERR stehe dir bei!«
Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.
Allen führenden Männern Israels befahl David, seinen Sohn Salomo zu unterstützen.
David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,
Er sagte zu ihnen: »Ihr habt erlebt, wie der HERR, euer Gott, euch geholfen hat: Es herrschen Ruhe und Frieden, denn Gott hat mir den Sieg über alle Feinde ringsum gegeben. Nun gehört das Land wirklich dem HERRN und seinem Volk.
Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.
Fragt nach dem HERRN, eurem Gott, und dient ihm von ganzem Herzen und mit aller Hingabe! Macht euch an die Arbeit und baut das Heiligtum Gottes, des HERRN, damit ihr die Bundeslade und die Gegenstände, die zum heiligen Zelt gehören, bald in den Tempel bringen könnt.«
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
