Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

»Soll diese Flut von Worten ohne Antwort bleiben? Darf denn ein Schwätzer recht behalten?
Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
Meinst du etwa, dein leeres Gerede verschlägt uns die Sprache? Willst du weiter spotten, ohne dass dich jemand zurechtweist?
Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
Du sagst zu Gott: ›Meine Urteile sind völlig richtig! In deinen Augen bin ich rein!‹
For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
Hiob, ich wünsche nichts sehnlicher, als dass Gott mit dir redet
But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
und dir zeigt, wie unendlich tief seine Weisheit ist! Sie hat so viele Seiten! Kein Mensch kann sie begreifen. Glaub mir: Gott sieht über viele deiner Sünden hinweg!
And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
Kannst du die Geheimnisse Gottes erforschen und die Vollkommenheit des Allmächtigen erfassen?
Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
Der Himmel oben setzt Gott keine Grenze — dir aber allemal! Gott kennt die Welt der Toten unten in der Tiefe — du aber nicht!
It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
Seine Größe überragt die Erde und reicht weiter als das Meer!
The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
Wenn er kommt, dich gefangen nimmt und dann Gericht hält — wer kann ihn daran hindern?
If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
Nichtsnutzige Menschen kennt er ganz genau, ihr böses Treiben entgeht ihm nicht.
For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
Ein Hohlkopf kommt nicht zur Vernunft, genauso wenig, wie ein Wildesel als Mensch geboren wird.
For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.
Hiob, fass einen klaren Entschluss: Streck deine Hände empor und bete zu Gott!
If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
Mach deinen Fehler wieder gut und lass in deinen Zelten kein neues Unrecht geschehen!
If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
Dann kannst du jedem wieder offen ins Gesicht sehen, unerschütterlich und furchtlos stehst du im Leben deinen Mann!
For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:
Bald schon wird all dein Leid vergessen sein wie Wasser, das versickert ist.
Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:
Dann kann dein Leben noch einmal beginnen und leuchten wie die Mittagssonne, auch die dunkelsten Stunden werden strahlen wie der lichte Morgen.
And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
Dann hast du endlich wieder Hoffnung und kannst zuversichtlich sein. Abends siehst du noch einmal nach dem Rechten und legst dich dann in Frieden schlafen.
And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
Kein Feind schreckt dich auf — im Gegenteil: Viele werden sich um deine Gunst bemühen.
Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
