»Sag den Israeliten, sie sollen ihre Richtung ändern und bei Pi-Hahirot Halt machen, zwischen Migdol und dem Meer. Schlagt das Lager direkt am Ufer des Schilfmeers auf, gegenüber von Baal-Zefon!
“Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, opposite it, by the sea.
Der Pharao wird denken, ihr habt euch verlaufen und findet nicht mehr aus der Wüste heraus.
“For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, ‘They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’
Ich werde dafür sorgen, dass er es sich anders überlegt und euch in seiner Starrsinnigkeit verfolgt. Doch dann werde ich ihn und sein Heer besiegen und zeigen, wie mächtig und erhaben ich bin. Daran sollen die Ägypter erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin!« Die Israeliten hielten sich genau an diese Anweisung.
“Thus I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” And they did so.
Als der König von Ägypten erfuhr, dass die Israeliten wirklich geflohen waren, änderten er und seine Hofbeamten ihre Meinung: »Was haben wir bloß getan? Warum haben wir die Israeliten aus der Sklaverei entlassen?«
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”
Der Pharao ließ seine Streitwagen anspannen und zog mit seinen Soldaten los.
So he made his chariot ready and took his people with him;
600 seiner besten Streitwagen bot er auf, dazu noch zahlreiche andere aus ganz Ägypten. Auf jedem Wagen fuhr neben dem Wagenlenker und dem Bogenschützen auch noch ein Schildträger mit.
and he took six hundred select chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them.
Der HERR hatte den König wieder starrsinnig gemacht. Darum jagte der Pharao den Israeliten nach, die Ägypten voller Zuversicht verlassen hatten.
The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he chased after the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out boldly.
Die Soldaten des Pharaos mit ihren Pferden und Streitwagen holten die Israeliten ein, während diese bei Pi-Hahirot am Meer, gegenüber von Baal-Zefon, lagerten.
Then the Egyptians chased after them with all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and they overtook them camping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.
Als die Israeliten den Pharao und seine Truppen heranziehen sahen, packte sie das Entsetzen, und sie schrien zum HERRN um Hilfe.
As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the LORD.
Zugleich machten sie Mose bittere Vorwürfe: »Gibt es etwa in Ägypten nicht genug Gräber für uns? Warum führst du uns hierher? Wir sollen wohl hier in der Wüste sterben! Was hast du uns nur angetan! Warum hast du uns aus Ägypten herausgeholt?
Then they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt?
Haben wir dir nicht schon dort gesagt, du solltest uns in Ruhe lassen? Wir hätten bleiben und den Ägyptern dienen sollen. Lieber wären wir ihre Sklaven geblieben, als hier in der Wüste umzukommen!«
“Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
Doch Mose antwortete: »Habt keine Angst! Verliert nicht den Mut! Ihr werdet erleben, wie der HERR euch heute rettet. Denn die Ägypter, die euch jetzt noch bedrohen, werdet ihr nie wiedersehen!
The Sea Is Divided
But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.
Der HERR selbst wird für euch kämpfen, wartet ihr nur ruhig ab!«
“The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent.”
Der HERR aber sagte zu Mose: »Warum schreist du zu mir um Hilfe? Sag den Israeliten lieber, dass sie aufbrechen sollen!
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.
Heb deinen Stab hoch und streck ihn aus über das Meer! Es wird sich teilen, und ihr könnt trockenen Fußes mitten hindurchziehen.
“As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.
Ich werde die Ägypter so starrsinnig machen, dass sie euch auch dort noch verfolgen. Ich will meine Macht und Herrlichkeit zeigen, indem ich den Pharao und sein Heer mit den Streitwagen und Reitern vernichte.
“As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen.
Die Ägypter sollen erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin. Ja, mein Sieg über den Pharao, seine Streitwagen und Reiter wird mir Ehre bringen!«
“Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen.”
Der Engel Gottes, der bisher den Israeliten vorangezogen war, stellte sich nun ans Ende des Zuges. Auch die Wolkensäule, die sonst vor ihnen herzog, stand jetzt hinter ihnen,
The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.
genau zwischen den Ägyptern und den Israeliten. Sie versperrte dem ägyptischen Heer wie eine dunkle Wand die Sicht, für die Israeliten aber leuchtete sie die ganze Nacht. So kamen die Ägypter während der Nacht nicht an die Israeliten heran.
So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.
Mose streckte seine Hand über das Wasser aus; da ließ der HERR einen starken Ostwind aufkommen, der das Meer die ganze Nacht hindurch zurücktrieb und den Meeresboden zu trockenem Land machte. Das Wasser teilte sich,
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided.
und die Israeliten konnten trockenen Fußes mitten durchs Meer ziehen. Links und rechts von ihnen türmten sich die Wassermassen wie Mauern auf.
The sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
Die Ägypter jagten den Israeliten nach. Mit allen Streitwagen, Pferden und Reitern stürmten sie ins Meer hinein.
Then the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea.
Kurz vor Tagesanbruch blickte der HERR aus der Wolken- und Feuersäule auf das ägyptische Heer hinab und stiftete Verwirrung in ihren Reihen.
At the morning watch, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud and brought the army of the Egyptians into confusion.
Er ließ die Räder ihrer Streitwagen abspringen, so dass sie nur mühsam vorankamen. »Der HERR steht auf der Seite der Israeliten«, riefen die Ägypter, »er kämpft gegen uns! Kehrt um! Flieht!«
He caused their chariot wheels to swerve, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from Israel, for the LORD is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”
Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: »Streck deine Hand noch einmal über das Meer aus, damit das Wasser zurückkehrt und die Wagen und Reiter der Ägypter überflutet!«
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen.”
Mose gehorchte: Bei Tagesanbruch streckte er seine Hand über das Meer aus. Da strömte das Wasser wieder zurück, den fliehenden Ägyptern entgegen. So trieb der HERR die Ägypter mitten ins Meer hinein.
So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
Die Wassermassen flossen zurück und überfluteten die Streitwagen und Reiter des Pharaos, die den Israeliten ins Meer hinein gefolgt waren. Kein einziger Ägypter blieb am Leben!
The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh’s entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.
Die Israeliten aber waren trockenen Fußes durchs Meer gezogen, während das Wasser wie eine Mauer zu beiden Seiten stand.
But the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
So rettete der HERR die Israeliten an diesem Tag vor den Ägyptern; sie sahen, wie die Leichen ihrer Feinde ans Ufer geschwemmt wurden.
Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.
Als die Israeliten erkannten, dass der HERR die Ägypter mit großer Macht besiegt hatte, wurden sie von Ehrfurcht ergriffen. Sie vertrauten ihm und seinem Diener Mose.
When Israel saw the great power which the LORD had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.
