Im 4. Regierungsjahr Jojakims, des Sohnes von Josia, empfing Jeremia eine Botschaft für das ganze Volk von Juda. Es war das 1. Regierungsjahr des babylonischen Königs Nebukadnezar.
Seventy Years of Captivity
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (that was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon),

Der Prophet Jeremia gab die Botschaft weiter an alle Einwohner von Jerusalem und an das ganze Volk von Juda. Er sagte:
which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
»Dreiundzwanzig Jahre lang — vom 13. Regierungsjahr unseres Königs Josia, des Sohnes von Amon, bis zum heutigen Tag — hat der HERR immer wieder zu mir gesprochen. Ich habe euch seine Worte unermüdlich verkündet, aber ihr wolltet sie nie annehmen.
“For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened.
Der HERR hat ständig seine Boten, die Propheten, zu euch gesandt, aber ihr habt euch beharrlich geweigert, auf sie zu hören. Ihr habt sie gar nicht ernst genommen,
You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the Lord persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets,
wenn sie euch sagten: ›Jeder von euch soll umkehren von seinen falschen Wegen! Hört auf, Böses zu tun! Nur dann könnt ihr für immer in diesem Land bleiben, das der HERR euch und euren Vorfahren geschenkt hat.‹
saying, ‘Turn now, every one of you, from his evil way and evil deeds, and dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever.
Der Herr warnte euch: ›Dient nicht anderen Göttern, macht euch keine Götzenfiguren und verehrt sie nicht, sonst fordert ihr meinen Zorn heraus, und ich bringe Unheil über euch!
Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, or provoke me to anger with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’
Aber ihr habt alle meine Worte in den Wind geschlagen. Das sage ich euch: Mit eurem Götzendienst habt ihr meinen Zorn heraufbeschworen und euch selbst damit geschadet.‹
Yet you have not listened to me, declares the Lord, that you might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.
So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: Weil ihr nicht auf mich gehört habt,
“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words,
rufe ich alle Völker aus dem Norden herbei, auch meinen Diener Nebukadnezar, den König von Babylonien. Sie werden euch und alle eure Nachbarvölker überfallen. Über euch alle habe ich, der HERR, mein Urteil gesprochen — eure Länder werden zerstört und für immer zur Einöde gemacht. Ein Bild des Schreckens werdet ihr sein, das nur Verachtung erntet.
behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation.
Ich bereite bei euch allem Jubel und aller Freude ein Ende, es wird auch keine fröhlichen Hochzeitsfeiern mehr geben; dann hört man keine Kornmühle mehr in den Häusern, und die Öllampen verlöschen.
Moreover, I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the grinding of the millstones and the light of the lamp.
Euer ganzes Land wird zu einem Trümmerfeld, zu einer unbewohnten Wüste. Siebzig Jahre lang werdet ihr und eure Nachbarvölker dem König von Babylonien unterworfen sein.
This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
Aber nach den siebzig Jahren ziehe ich den König von Babylonien und sein Volk zur Rechenschaft für ihre Schuld. Dann werde ich ihr Land für immer zerstören. Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, mein Wort!
Then after seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, declares the Lord, making the land an everlasting waste.
Ich lasse alle Drohungen, die ich gegen dieses Land ausgesprochen habe, in Erfüllung gehen, alle Weissagungen Jeremias über die Völker, wie sie in diesem Buch aufgeschrieben sind.
I will bring upon that land all the words that I have uttered against it, everything written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.
Ja, auch die Babylonier werden einmal vielen Völkern und mächtigen Königen dienen müssen. So vergelte ich ihnen alles, was sie getan haben.«
For many nations and great kings shall make slaves even of them, and I will recompense them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”
Der HERR, der Gott Israels, sprach zu mir: »Nimm diesen Kelch, den ich dir reiche! Er ist gefüllt mit meinem Zorn. Gib allen Völkern, zu denen ich dich sende, davon zu trinken!
The Cup of the Lord’s Wrath
Thus the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.

Sie sollen trinken, taumeln und den Verstand verlieren, wenn ich Krieg und Tod über sie bringe!«
They shall drink and stagger and be crazed because of the sword that I am sending among them.”
Da nahm ich den Kelch aus der Hand des HERRN entgegen und ließ alle Völker daraus trinken, zu denen mich der HERR sandte:
So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand, and made all the nations to whom the Lord sent me drink it:
zuerst Jerusalem und die anderen Städte in Juda mit ihren Königen und führenden Männern; da wurde das ganze Land zu einem einzigen Trümmerfeld, an dem die Leute entsetzt vorübergingen, über dessen Schicksal sie spotteten und es auch anderen herbeiwünschten — so wie es schon heute geschieht.
Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a desolation and a waste, a hissing and a curse, as at this day;
Dann kam der Pharao an die Reihe, der König von Ägypten, mit seinem Hofstaat, den obersten Beamten und dem ganzen Volk
Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, all his people,
samt allen Ausländern in seinem Land. Danach mussten die Könige des Landes Uz aus dem Kelch trinken, die Könige des Landes der Philister mit den Städten Aschkelon, Gaza, Ekron und der restlichen Bevölkerung von Aschdod,
and all the mixed tribes among them; all the kings of the land of Uz and all the kings of the land of the Philistines (Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);
die Könige der Hafenstädte Tyrus und Sidon sowie die Herrscher der Küstengebiete jenseits des Mittelmeers,
all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastland across the sea;
die Beduinen von Dedan, Tema und Bus und die anderen Stämme, die sich das Haar an den Schläfen stutzen,
Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who cut the corners of their hair;
alle Könige Arabiens und der Nomadenstämme in der Wüste,
all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed tribes who dwell in the desert;
alle Könige von Simri, Elam und Medien,
all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;
dann die Herrscher der nahen und fernen Länder im Norden, einer nach dem anderen, ja, alle Königreiche der ganzen Welt. Zuletzt wird auch der König von Scheschach aus dem Kelch trinken.
Dann sollte ich ihnen allen diese Botschaft ausrichten: »So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott Israels: Trinkt aus diesem Kelch, bis ihr betrunken seid und euch erbrechen müsst; trinkt, bis ihr zu Boden stürzt und nicht mehr aufstehen könnt, weil mein Schwert unter euch wütet!«
“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of the sword that I am sending among you.’
Weiter sprach Gott zu mir: »Wenn sie sich weigern, den Kelch aus deiner Hand entgegenzunehmen und daraus zu trinken, dann befiehl: ›Im Namen des allmächtigen Gottes: Ihr müsst ihn austrinken!
“And if they refuse to accept the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: You must drink!
Passt auf: Über die Stadt, die meinen Namen trägt, lasse ich das Unheil zuerst hereinbrechen — und ihr meint, ich würde euch verschonen? Nein, ihr entkommt eurer Strafe nicht! Ich bringe Krieg und Tod über alle Bewohner der Erde, ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott.‹«
For behold, I begin to work disaster at the city that is called by my name, and shall you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the Lord of hosts.’
»Und du, Jeremia, verkünde ihnen in meinem Auftrag alles, was ich dir gesagt habe! Richte ihnen aus: Mächtig wie das Brüllen eines Löwen erklingt die Stimme des HERRN aus der Höhe, wie Donnergrollen ertönt sie aus seiner heiligen Wohnung. Seinem eigenen Land droht er, er ruft so laut wie einer, der Trauben in der Kelter zerstampft. Alle Bewohner der Erde werden ihn hören.
“You, therefore, shall prophesy against them all these words, and say to them:
“‘The Lord will roar from on high,
and from his holy habitation utter his voice;
he will roar mightily against his fold,
and shout, like those who tread grapes,
against all the inhabitants of the earth.

Ja, bis ans Ende der Erde hallt sein Ruf, denn der HERR bringt alle Völker vor Gericht. Er fällt sein Urteil über alle Menschen, und die Schuldigen liefert er dem Henker aus.
The clamor will resound to the ends of the earth,
for the Lord has an indictment against the nations;
he is entering into judgment with all flesh,
and the wicked he will put to the sword,
for the Lord has an indictment against the nations;

So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: Seht, das Unheil trifft ein Volk nach dem anderen, ein gewaltiger Sturm zieht vom Ende der Erde heran!
“Thus says the Lord of hosts:
Behold, disaster is going forth
from nation to nation,
and a great tempest is stirring
from the farthest parts of the earth!

Dann liegen die Leichen derer, die ich, der HERR, erschlagen habe, überall verstreut; keiner trauert um sie, niemand sammelt sie ein, um sie zu begraben. Sie werden zum Dünger auf den Feldern.
“And those pierced by the Lord on that day shall extend from one end of the earth to the other. They shall not be lamented, or gathered, or buried; they shall be dung on the surface of the ground.
Ihr Mächtigen, weint und schreit um Hilfe! Wälzt euch vor Trauer in der Asche, ihr Hirten eurer Völker, denn jetzt ist die Zeit gekommen, in der ihr fortgejagt und geschlachtet werdet! Ich werfe euch zu Boden und zerschmettere euch wie ein kostbares Gefäß.
“Wail, you shepherds, and cry out,
and roll in ashes, you lords of the flock,
for the days of your slaughter and dispersion have come,
and you shall fall like a choice vessel.

Ihr könnt nicht vor mir fliehen, es gibt kein Entrinnen!
No refuge will remain for the shepherds,
nor escape for the lords of the flock.

Hört, wie erbärmlich die Mächtigen um Hilfe schreien und wie die Hirten der Völker heulen, weil ich ihre Weide verwüstet habe!
A voice — the cry of the shepherds,
and the wail of the lords of the flock!

In Frieden lag sie da, doch nun habe ich, der HERR, sie in meinem glühenden Zorn zerstört.

Ich habe mich erhoben wie ein Löwe, der aus seinem Versteck hervorkommt, um auf Raubzug zu gehen. Voller Zorn habe ich die Länder mit meinem Schwert verwüstet.«
