Was die Leute von Ephraim tun, ist so sinnlos und dumm, wie den Wind einzufangen oder dem heißen Ostwind nachzujagen. Ihre Lügen und Verbrechen mehren sich Tag für Tag. Sie schließen ein Bündnis mit den Assyrern, und gleichzeitig schenken sie den Ägyptern kostbares Öl.

Auch die Bewohner von Juda wird der HERR zur Verantwortung ziehen! Denn die Nachkommen von Jakob gehen ihre eigenen Wege und tun, was sie wollen. Doch nun müssen sie die Folgen tragen!

Schon ihr Stammvater Jakob hat im Mutterleib seinen Zwillingsbruder betrogen. Als er ein Mann war, kämpfte er mit Gott;
ja, er kämpfte mit dem Engel Gottes und besiegte ihn mit Weinen und Flehen. In Bethel begegnete ihm dann der Herr und sprach mit ihm.

Der Herr sagt: »Israel gleicht einem Händler, der mit falschen Gewichten die Leute betrügt und sich freut, wenn er andere übers Ohr hauen kann.

Schon damals in Gilead haben die Israeliten großes Unheil angerichtet und dadurch ihre Vernichtung heraufbeschworen! In Gilgal haben sie Stiere geopfert, darum werden ihre Altäre zerstört, ja, sie werden wie die Steinhaufen am Ackerrand!
