Abominations in the Temple
In the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house, with the elders of Judah sitting before me, the hand of the Lord God fell upon me there.

Und siehe, ich sah, daß es von seinen Lenden herunterwärts war gleichwie Feuer; aber oben über seinen Lenden war es lichthell;
und er reckte aus gleichwie eine Hand und ergriff mich bei dem Haar meines Hauptes. Da führte mich ein Wind zwischen Himmel und Erde und brachte mich gen Jerusalem in einem göttlichen Gesichte zu dem Tor am inneren Vorhof, das gegen Mitternacht sieht, da stand ein Bild zu Verdruß dem Hausherrn.
He put out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head, and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the gateway of the inner court that faces north, where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy.
Und siehe, da war die Herrlichkeit des Gottes Israels, wie ich sie zuvor gesehen hatte im Felde.
And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw in the valley.
Und er sprach zu mir: Du Menschenkind, hebe deine Augen auf gegen Mitternacht. Und da ich meine Augen aufhob gegen Mitternacht, siehe, da stand gegen Mitternacht das verdrießliche Bild am Tor des Altars, eben da man hineingeht.
Then he said to me, “Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of the altar gate, in the entrance, was this image of jealousy.
Und er sprach zu mir: Du Menschenkind, siehst du auch, was diese tun? Große Greuel, die das Haus Israel hier tut, daß sie mich ja fern von meinem Heiligtum treiben. Aber du wirst noch mehr große Greuel sehen.
And he said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel are committing here, to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see still greater abominations.”
Und er führte mich zur Tür des Vorhofs; da sah ich, und siehe, da war ein Loch in der Wand.
And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall.
Und er sprach zu mir: Du Menschenkind, grabe durch die Wand. Und da ich durch die Wand grub, siehe, da war eine Tür.
Then he said to me, “Son of man, dig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance.
Und er sprach zu mir: Gehe hinein und schaue die bösen Greuel, die sie allhier tun.
And he said to me, “Go in, and see the vile abominations that they are committing here.”
Und da ich hineinkam und sah, siehe, da waren allerlei Bildnisse der Würmer und Tiere, eitel Scheuel, und allerlei Götzen des Hauses Israel, allenthalben umher an der Wand gemacht;
So I went in and saw. And there, engraved on the wall all around, was every form of creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel.
vor welchen standen 70 Männer aus den Ältesten des Hauses Israel, und Jaasanja, der Sohn Saphans, stand auch unter ihnen; und ein jeglicher hatte sein Räuchfaß in der Hand, und ging ein dicker Nebel auf vom Räuchwerk.
And before them stood seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and the smoke of the cloud of incense went up.
Und er sprach zu mir: Menschenkind, siehst du, was die Ältesten des Hauses Israel tun in der Finsternis, ein jeglicher in seiner Bilderkammer? Denn sie sagen: Der HERR sieht uns nicht, sondern der HERR hat das Land verlassen.
Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’”
Und er sprach zu mir: Du sollst noch mehr große Greuel sehen, die sie tun.
He said also to me, “You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”
Und er führte mich hinein zum Tor an des HERRN Hause, das gegen Mitternacht steht; und siehe, daselbst saßen Weiber, die weinten über den Thammus.
Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
Und er sprach zu mir: Menschenkind, siehst du das? Aber du sollst noch größere Greuel sehen, denn diese sind.
Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? You will see still greater abominations than these.”
Und er führte mich in den inneren Hof am Hause des HERRN; und siehe, vor der Tür am Tempel des HERRN, zwischen der Halle und dem Altar, da waren bei 25 Männer, die ihren Rücken gegen den Tempel des HERRN und ihr Angesicht gegen Morgen gekehrt hatten und beteten gegen der Sonne Aufgang.
And he brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men, with their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping the sun toward the east.
Und er sprach zu mir: Menschenkind, siehst du das? Ist’s dem Hause Juda zu wenig, alle solche Greuel hier zu tun, daß sie auch sonst im ganzen Lande eitel Gewalt und Unrecht treiben und reizen mich immer wieder? Und siehe, sie halten die Weinrebe an die Nase.
Darum will ich auch wider sie mit Grimm handeln, und mein Auge soll ihrer nicht verschonen, und ich will nicht gnädig sein; und wenn sie gleich mit lauter Stimme vor meinen Ohren schreien, will ich sie doch nicht hören.
Therefore I will act in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”
