He took David from tending the ewes and lambs
and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants —
God’s own people, Israel.

From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

Bis dahin hatte David bloß Schafe gehütet, doch nun machte Gott ihn zum Hirten über Israel, über die Nachkommen von Jakob, sein erwähltes Volk.
