The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.

Doch der Mensch — er arbeitet sich durch das härteste Gestein, ganze Berge wühlt er um.
He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
Tief in den Felsen treibt er Stollen, bis er dort findet, was sein Herz begehrt.
He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
Die Wasseradern im Gestein dichtet er ab; tief Verborgenes bringt er ans Licht.
Wisdom an Excellent Gift of God
But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

Aber die Weisheit — wo ist sie zu finden? Und wo entdeckt man die Einsicht?
Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Kein Mensch kennt den Weg zu ihr, unter den Lebenden findet man sie nicht.
The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
Das Meer und seine Tiefen sprechen: ›Die Weisheit ist nicht bei uns!‹
It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
Sie ist unbezahlbar, mit Gold und Silber nicht aufzuwiegen.
It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
Man kann sie weder mit Feingold kaufen noch mit kostbarem Onyx oder Saphir.
The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
Gold und reines Glas reichen nicht an sie heran, und auch gegen Goldschmuck kann man sie nicht tauschen,
No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
ganz zu schweigen von Korallen und Kristall! Ja, der Wert der Weisheit übertrifft alle Rubine.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
Der Topas aus Äthiopien ist nichts im Vergleich zu ihr, mit reinem Gold ist sie nicht aufzuwiegen.
Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
Woher also kommt die Weisheit? Und wo entdeckt man die Einsicht?
Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
Ja, sie ist dem menschlichen Auge verborgen, und auch die Raubvögel erspähen sie nicht.
Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
Das tiefe Totenreich und selbst der Tod, sie sprechen: ›Wir haben von ihr nur ein Gerücht gehört!‹
God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
Gott allein kennt den Weg zur Weisheit; er nur weiß, wo sie zu finden ist.
For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
Denn er blickt über die ganze Welt, er durchschaut Himmel und Erde.
To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
Schon damals, als er dem Wind seine Wucht gab und den Wassermassen eine Grenze setzte;
When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
als er bestimmte, wo der Regen niedergehen sollte, als er den Gewitterwolken einen Weg vorschrieb —
Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
schon da sah er die Weisheit an und rühmte ihren Wert, er erforschte sie und gab ihr Bestand.
