Absalom’s Conspiracy

Absalom beschaffte sich einen Wagen mit Pferden und eine 50 Mann starke Leibwache.
Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way to the gate; and when any man had a suit to come to the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him and say, “From what city are you?” And he would say, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.”
Er stellte sich jeden Morgen in aller Frühe an die Straße, die zum Palast führte. Alle, die mit einer Streitsache kamen, um sie dem König als oberstem Richter vorzulegen, fragte er nach ihrer Heimatstadt. Wenn jemand zu einem der Nordstämme Israels gehörte,
Then Absalom would say to him, “See, your claims are good and right, but no man listens to you on the part of the king.”
sagte Absalom zu ihm: »Zweifellos würdest du den Prozess gewinnen, denn du bist im Recht. Aber man wird dich gar nicht erst bis zum König vorlassen.«
Moreover, Absalom would say, “Oh that one would appoint me judge in the land, then every man who has any suit or cause could come to me and I would give him justice.”
Und er fügte noch hinzu: »Ach, wäre doch ich der oberste Richter in unserem Land! Ich würde mir Zeit nehmen für jeden, der mit seinem Fall zu mir kommt. Allen würde ich zu ihrem Recht verhelfen.«
And when a man came near to prostrate himself before him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.
Wenn der andere sich dann voller Ehrfurcht vor Absalom zu Boden werfen wollte, kam der ihm zuvor, umarmte und küsste ihn.
In this manner Absalom dealt with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole away the hearts of the men of Israel.
So verhielt Absalom sich gegenüber allen Leuten aus Israel, die mit ihren Streitigkeiten zum König nach Jerusalem kamen. Dadurch machte er sich bei ihnen beliebt.
Now it came about at the end of forty years that Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go and pay my vow which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron.
Das ging vier Jahre lang so. Eines Tages sagte Absalom zu David: »Ich möchte gern nach Hebron gehen, um ein Gelübde zu erfüllen, das ich vor dem HERRN abgelegt habe.
“For your servant vowed a vow while I was living at Geshur in Aram, saying, ‘If the LORD shall indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.’”
Denn als ich in Geschur in Syrien war, schwor ich ihm: ›Wenn du mich wieder nach Jerusalem heimkehren lässt, bringe ich dir ein Opfer dar.‹«
The king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron.
»Geh nur und erfülle dein Gelübde«, antwortete der König. Absalom ging nach Hebron
But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron.’”
und sandte heimlich Boten in alle Stammesgebiete Israels. Sie sollten überall verkünden: »Sobald ihr die Hörner hört, ruft, so laut ihr könnt: ›Absalom ist unser König! In Hebron wurde er gekrönt.‹«
Then two hundred men went with Absalom from Jerusalem, who were invited and went innocently, and they did not know anything.
Absalom hatte zweihundert Männer aus Jerusalem zu seinem Opferfest nach Hebron eingeladen. Sie wussten nichts von seinen Plänen und gingen ahnungslos mit.
And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.
Als die Opfertiere geschlachtet waren, schickte Absalom noch eine Einladung an Ahitofel, einen Berater von König David, der in Gilo wohnte. Ahitofel kam und schloss sich ihm an. So sammelte Absalom immer mehr Leute um sich, die seine Verschwörung unterstützten.
David Flees Jerusalem
Then a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.”
Ein Bote kam zu David nach Jerusalem und meldete: »Absalom hat eine Verschwörung angezettelt! Die meisten Israeliten sind auf seiner Seite.«
David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise and let us flee, for otherwise none of us will escape from Absalom. Go in haste, or he will overtake us quickly and bring down calamity on us and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”
»Dann gibt es für uns nur eines: fliehen, damit wir ihm nicht in die Hände fallen«, sagte David zu seinen Anhängern. »Wir müssen sofort aufbrechen, beeilt euch! Sonst überwältigt er uns hier in der Stadt, und dann sind wir und alle Einwohner verloren. Denn bestimmt würde er ein großes Blutbad anrichten.«
Then the king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king chooses.”
Davids Leute antworteten: »Wir stehen zu unserem König. Tu, was du für richtig hältst!«
So the king went out and all his household with him. But the king left ten concubines to keep the house.
David floh mit seiner Familie und allen Anhängern aus der Stadt. Nur zehn seiner Nebenfrauen ließ er zurück, damit der Palast nicht unbeaufsichtigt blieb.
The king went out and all the people with him, and they stopped at the last house.
Er ging mit seinem Gefolge bis zum letzten Haus am Stadtrand und machte dort Halt.
Now all his servants passed on beside him, all the Cherethites, all the Pelethites and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had come with him from Gath, passed on before the king.
Dann ließ er alle, die mitgekommen waren, an sich vorüberziehen: zuerst die königliche Leibwache, dann die 600 Mann, die ihm aus Gat gefolgt waren, und schließlich alle anderen, die zu ihm hielten.
Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why will you also go with us? Return and remain with the king, for you are a foreigner and also an exile; return to your own place.
Als Ittai, ein Philister aus Gat, an David vorüberging, sprach der König ihn an: »Warum möchtest du mit uns ziehen? Es ist besser für dich, wenn du umkehrst und dich dem neuen König anschließt. Du bist als Einwanderer nach Israel gekommen, weil du deine Heimat verlassen musstest.
“You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander with us, while I go where I will? Return and take back your brothers; mercy and truth be with you.”
Erst vor kurzem hast du dich hier angesiedelt, und jetzt solltest du schon wieder vertrieben werden? Nein, ich kann nicht verlangen, dass du bei mir bleibst. Wer weiß, wohin ich noch fliehen muss. Darum kehr um und geh mit deinen Landsleuten zurück in die Stadt. Der Herr möge dir Gutes tun und dir seine Liebe erweisen.«
But Ittai answered the king and said, “As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely wherever my lord the king may be, whether for death or for life, there also your servant will be.”
Doch Ittai entgegnete: »So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du lebst: Ich werde dich, meinen König, niemals im Stich lassen, und wenn es mich das Leben kostet! Das schwöre ich dir!«
Therefore David said to Ittai, “Go and pass over.” So Ittai the Gittite passed over with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.
Da gab David nach und sagte: »Gut, dann komm mit uns!« Und so zog Ittai mit seinen Begleitern und ihren Familien an David vorbei.
While all the country was weeping with a loud voice, all the people passed over. The king also passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.
Schließlich überquerte David den Bach Kidron und schlug den Weg in Richtung Wüste ein. Die Leute von Jerusalem weinten laut, als sie den König und sein Gefolge fliehen sahen.
Now behold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar came up until all the people had finished passing from the city.
Auch der Priester Zadok und die Leviten hatten mit David die Stadt verlassen. Die Leviten trugen die Bundeslade und stellten sie außerhalb der Stadt ab. Der Priester Abjatar brachte Opfer dar, bis alle Leute vorbeigezogen waren.
The king said to Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the sight of the LORD, then He will bring me back again and show me both it and His habitation.
David sagte zu Zadok: »Tragt die Bundeslade zurück in die Stadt! Wenn der HERR Erbarmen mit mir hat, bringt er auch mich eines Tages wieder dorthin und lässt mich die Bundeslade und das Zelt, in dem sie steht, wiedersehen.
“But if He should say thus, ‘I have no delight in you,’ behold, here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”
Wenn er aber sagt, dass ihm nichts mehr an mir liegt, so will ich auch das annehmen. Er soll mit mir tun, was er für richtig hält.
The king said also to Zadok the priest, “Are you not a seer? Return to the city in peace and your two sons with you, your son Ahimaaz and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
Du aber, Zadok, gehst besser nach Jerusalem zurück. Nimm deinen Sohn Ahimaaz mit, und auch Abjatar und sein Sohn Jonatan sollen sich euch anschließen.
“See, I am going to wait at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”
Ich selbst werde am Rand der Wüste am Jordanübergang warten, bis ich von euch Nachricht über die Lage in Jerusalem erhalte.«
Therefore Zadok and Abiathar returned the ark of God to Jerusalem and remained there.
Da brachten die Priester Zadok und Abjatar die Bundeslade Gottes zurück nach Jerusalem und blieben dort.
And David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went, and his head was covered and he walked barefoot. Then all the people who were with him each covered his head and went up weeping as they went.
David und die Menschen, die mit ihm gegangen waren, stiegen weinend den Ölberg hinauf. Als Zeichen der Trauer hatten sie ihre Gesichter verhüllt und liefen barfuß.
Now someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O LORD, I pray, make the counsel of Ahithophel foolishness.”
Unterwegs wurde David gemeldet: »Dein Berater Ahitofel unterstützt Absalom bei der Verschwörung.« Da betete er: »HERR, sorge dafür, dass man die klugen Ratschläge Ahitofels für Unsinn hält.«
It happened as David was coming to the summit, where God was worshiped, that behold, Hushai the Archite met him with his coat torn and dust on his head.
Als David den Gipfel erreicht hatte, wo man zu Gott betete, kam ihm sein alter Freund, der Arkiter Huschai, entgegen. Auch er hatte sein Gewand zerrissen und sich Erde auf den Kopf gestreut.
David said to him, “If you pass over with me, then you will be a burden to me.
David sagte zu ihm: »Wenn du in deinem Alter mit uns ziehst, fällst du uns nur zur Last.
“But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father’s servant in time past, so I will now be your servant,’ then you can thwart the counsel of Ahithophel for me.
Gehst du aber zurück in die Stadt, dann kannst du mir einen großen Dienst erweisen. Sag zu Absalom: ›Mein Herr und König, ich stehe dir zur Seite! Früher diente ich deinem Vater, jetzt aber bist du mein Herr.‹ So kannst du mir helfen, die Pläne zu vereiteln, die Ahitofel sich ausdenkt.
“Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So it shall be that whatever you hear from the king’s house, you shall report to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
Du bist nicht allein: Auch die Priester Zadok und Abjatar bleiben in Jerusalem. Berichte ihnen alles Wichtige aus dem königlichen Palast. Zadoks Sohn Ahimaaz und Abjatars Sohn Jonatan werden es mir dann weitersagen. Auch sie bleiben vorerst noch in der Stadt.«
