Israel Demands a King
And it came about when Samuel was old that he appointed his sons judges over Israel.

Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judging in Beersheba.
Sein erstgeborener Sohn hieß Joël, sein zweiter Abija. Sie waren in Beerscheba Richter.
His sons, however, did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain and took bribes and perverted justice.
Seine Söhne gingen nicht auf seinen Wegen, sondern waren auf ihren Vorteil aus, ließen sich bestechen und beugten das Recht.
Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah;
Deshalb versammelten sich alle Ältesten Israels und gingen zu Samuel nach Rama.
and they said to him, “Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations.”
Sie sagten zu ihm: Du bist nun alt und deine Söhne gehen nicht auf deinen Wegen. Darum setze jetzt einen König bei uns ein, der uns regieren soll, wie es bei allen Völkern der Fall ist!
But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the LORD.
Aber Samuel missfiel es, dass sie sagten: Gib uns einen König, der uns regieren soll! Samuel betete deshalb zum HERRN
The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.
und der HERR sagte zu Samuel: Hör auf die Stimme des Volkes in allem, was sie zu dir sagen! Denn nicht dich haben sie verworfen, sondern mich haben sie verworfen: Ich soll nicht mehr ihr König sein.
“Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day — in that they have forsaken Me and served other gods — so they are doing to you also.
Das entspricht ganz ihren Taten, die sie von dem Tag an, da ich sie aus Ägypten heraufgeführt habe, bis zum heutigen Tag getan haben; sie haben mich verlassen und anderen Göttern gedient. So machen sie es nun auch mit dir.
“Now then, listen to their voice; however, you shall solemnly warn them and tell them of the procedure of the king who will reign over them.”
Doch hör jetzt auf ihre Stimme, warne sie aber eindringlich und mach ihnen bekannt, welche Rechte der König hat, der über sie herrschen wird!
Warning concerning a King
So Samuel spoke all the words of the LORD to the people who had asked of him a king.
Samuel teilte dem Volk, das einen König von ihm verlangte, alle Worte des HERRN mit.
He said, “This will be the procedure of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and place them for himself in his chariots and among his horsemen and they will run before his chariots.
Er sagte: Das werden die Rechte des Königs sein, der über euch herrschen wird: Er wird eure Söhne holen und sie für sich bei seinen Wagen und seinen Pferden verwenden und sie werden vor seinem Wagen herlaufen.
“He will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and of fifties, and some to do his plowing and to reap his harvest and to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.
Er wird sie zu Obersten über Tausend und zu Führern über Fünfzig machen. Sie müssen sein Ackerland pflügen und seine Ernte einbringen. Sie müssen seine Kriegsgeräte und die Ausrüstung seiner Streitwagen anfertigen.
“He will also take your daughters for perfumers and cooks and bakers.
Eure Töchter wird er holen, damit sie ihm Salben zubereiten und kochen und backen.
“He will take the best of your fields and your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his servants.
Eure besten Felder, Weinberge und Ölbäume wird er euch wegnehmen und seinen Beamten geben.
“He will take a tenth of your seed and of your vineyards and give to his officers and to his servants.
Von euren Äckern und euren Weinbergen wird er den Zehnten erheben und ihn seinen Höflingen und Beamten geben.
“He will also take your male servants and your female servants and your best young men and your donkeys and use them for his work.
Eure Knechte und Mägde, eure besten jungen Leute und eure Esel wird er holen und für sich arbeiten lassen.
“He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his servants.
Von euren Schafherden wird er den Zehnten erheben. Ihr selber werdet seine Sklaven sein.
“Then you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.”
An jenem Tag werdet ihr wegen des Königs, den ihr euch erwählt habt, um Hilfe schreien, aber der HERR wird euch an jenem Tag nicht antworten.
Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us,
Doch das Volk wollte nicht auf Samuel hören, sondern sagte: Nein, ein König soll über uns herrschen.
that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
Auch wir wollen wie alle anderen Völker sein. Unser König soll uns Recht sprechen, er soll vor uns herziehen und soll unsere Kriege führen.
Now after Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the LORD’S hearing.
Samuel hörte alles an, was das Volk sagte, und trug es dem HERRN vor.
