Das Buch Hiob (Ijob) 33

“But now, Job, listen to my words;
pay attention to everything I say.

Höre doch, Hiob, meine Rede und merke auf alle meine Worte!

I am about to open my mouth;
my words are on the tip of my tongue.

Siehe, ich tue meinen Mund auf, und meine Zunge redet in meinem Munde.

My words come from an upright heart;
my lips sincerely speak what I know.

Mein Herz soll recht reden, und meine Lippen sollen den reinen Verstand sagen.

The Spirit of God has made me;
the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Der Geist Gottes hat mich gemacht, und der Odem des Allmächtigen hat mir das Leben gegeben.

Answer me then, if you can;
stand up and argue your case before me.

Kannst du, so antworte mir; rüste dich gegen mich und stelle dich.

I am the same as you in God’s sight;
I too am a piece of clay.

Siehe, ich bin Gottes ebensowohl als du, und aus Lehm bin ich auch gemacht.

No fear of me should alarm you,
nor should my hand be heavy on you.

Siehe, du darfst vor mir nicht erschrecken, und meine Hand soll dir nicht zu schwer sein.

“But you have said in my hearing —
I heard the very words —

Du hast geredet vor meinen Ohren; die Stimme deiner Reden mußte ich hören:

‘I am pure, I have done no wrong;
I am clean and free from sin.

Ich bin rein, ohne Missetat, unschuldig und habe keine Sünde;

Yet God has found fault with me;
he considers me his enemy.

siehe, er hat eine Sache gegen mich gefunden, er achtet mich für seinen Feind;

He fastens my feet in shackles;
he keeps close watch on all my paths.’

er hat meinen Fuß in den Stock gelegt und hat acht auf alle meine Wege.

“But I tell you, in this you are not right,
for God is greater than any mortal.

Siehe, darin hast du nicht recht, muß ich dir antworten; denn Gott ist mehr als ein Mensch.

Why do you complain to him
that he responds to no one’s wordsa?

Warum willst du mit ihm zanken, daß er dir nicht Rechenschaft gibt alles seines Tuns?

For God does speak — now one way, now another —
though no one perceives it.

Denn in einer Weise redet Gott und wieder in einer andern, nur achtet man’s nicht.

In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,

Im Traum, im Nachtgesicht, wenn der Schlaf auf die Leute fällt, wenn sie schlafen auf dem Bette,

he may speak in their ears
and terrify them with warnings,

da öffnet er das Ohr der Leute und schreckt sie und züchtigt sie,

to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,

daß er den Menschen von seinem Vornehmen wende und behüte ihn vor Hoffart

to preserve them from the pit,
their lives from perishing by the sword.b

und verschone seine Seele vor dem Verderben und sein Leben, daß es nicht ins Schwert falle.

“Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain
with constant distress in their bones,

Auch straft er ihn mit Schmerzen auf seinem Bette und alle seine Gebeine heftig

so that their body finds food repulsive
and their soul loathes the choicest meal.

und richtet ihm sein Leben so zu, daß ihm vor der Speise ekelt, und seine Seele, daß sie nicht Lust zu essen hat.

Their flesh wastes away to nothing,
and their bones, once hidden, now stick out.

Sein Fleisch verschwindet, daß man’s nimmer sehen kann; und seine Gebeine werden zerschlagen, daß man sie nicht gern ansieht,

They draw near to the pit,
and their life to the messengers of death.c

daß seine Seele naht zum Verderben und sein Leben zu den Toten.

Yet if there is an angel at their side,
a messenger, one out of a thousand,
sent to tell them how to be upright,

So dann für ihn ein Engel als Mittler eintritt, einer aus 1000, zu verkündigen dem Menschen, wie er solle recht tun,

and he is gracious to that person and says to God,
‘Spare them from going down to the pit;
I have found a ransom for them —

so wird er ihm gnädig sein und sagen: Erlöse ihn, daß er nicht hinunterfahre ins Verderben; denn ich habe eine Versöhnung gefunden.

let their flesh be renewed like a child’s;
let them be restored as in the days of their youth’ —

Sein Fleisch wird wieder grünen wie in der Jugend, und er wird wieder jung werden.

then that person can pray to God and find favor with him,
they will see God’s face and shout for joy;
he will restore them to full well-being.

Er wird Gott bitten; der wird ihm Gnade erzeigen und wird ihn sein Antlitz sehen lassen mit Freuden und wird dem Menschen nach seiner Gerechtigkeit vergelten.

And they will go to others and say,
‘I have sinned, I have perverted what is right,
but I did not get what I deserved.

Er wird vor den Leuten bekennen und sagen: »Ich hatte gesündigt und das Recht verkehrt; aber es ist mir nicht vergolten worden.

God has delivered me from going down to the pit,
and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’

Er hat meine Seele erlöst, daß sie nicht führe ins Verderben, sondern mein Leben das Licht sähe.

“God does all these things to a person —
twice, even three times —

Siehe, das alles tut Gott zwei oder dreimal mit einem jeglichen,

to turn them back from the pit,
that the light of life may shine on them.

daß er seine Seele zurückhole aus dem Verderben und erleuchte ihn mit dem Licht der Lebendigen.

“Pay attention, Job, and listen to me;
be silent, and I will speak.

Merke auf, Hiob, und höre mir zu und schweige, daß ich rede!

If you have anything to say, answer me;
speak up, for I want to vindicate you.

Hast du aber was zu sagen, so antworte mir; sage an! ich wollte dich gern rechtfertigen.

But if not, then listen to me;
be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”

Hast du aber nichts, so höre mir zu und schweige; ich will dich die Weisheit lehren.
