Remembering the Covenant with David, and Sorrow for Lost Blessings

A [a]Contemplation of Ethan the Ezrahite.

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever;
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.

Eine Unterweisung Ethans, des Esrahiten.

For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.”

Ich will singen von der Gnade des HERRN ewiglich und seine Wahrheit verkündigen mit meinem Munde für und für

“I have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have sworn to My servant David:

(und sage also: Daß eine ewige Gnade wird aufgehen, und du wirst deine Wahrheit treulich halten im Himmel.

‘Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.’ ” Selah

(«Ich habe einen Bund gemacht mit meinem Auserwählten; ich habe David, meinem Knechte, geschworen:

And the heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord;
Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints.

(Ich will deinen Samen bestätigen ewiglich und deinen Stuhl bauen für und für.« (Sela.)

For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord?
Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord?

Und die Himmel werden, HERR, deine Wunder preisen und deine Wahrheit in der Gemeinde der Heiligen.

God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
And to be held in reverence by all those around Him.

(Denn wer mag in den Wolken dem HERRN gleich gelten, und gleich sein unter den Kindern Gottes dem HERRN?

O Lord God of hosts,
Who is mighty like You, O Lord?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

( Gott ist sehr mächtig in der Versammlung der Heiligen und wunderbar über alle, die um ihn sind.

You rule the raging of the sea;
When its waves rise, You still them.

( HERR, Gott Zebaoth, wer ist wie du ein mächtiger Gott? Und deine Wahrheit ist um dich her.

You have broken [b]Rahab in pieces, as one who is slain;
You have scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm.

Du herrschest über das ungestüme Meer; du stillest seine Wellen, wenn sie sich erheben.

The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The world and all its fullness, You have founded them.

Du schlägst Rahab zu Tod; du zerstreust deine Feinde mit deinem starken Arm.

The north and the south, You have created them;
Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Your name.

Himmel und Erde ist dein; du hast gegründet den Erdboden und was darinnen ist.

You have a mighty arm;
Strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand.

Mitternacht und Mittag hast du geschaffen; Thabor und Hermon jauchzen in deinem Namen.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Mercy and truth go before Your face.

Du hast einen gewaltigen Arm; stark ist deine Hand, und hoch ist deine Rechte.

Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.

Gerechtigkeit und Gericht ist deines Stuhles Festung; Gnade und Wahrheit sind vor deinem Angesicht.

In Your name they rejoice all day long,
And in Your righteousness they are exalted.

Wohl dem Volk, das jauchzen kann! HERR, sie werden im Licht deines Antlitzes wandeln;

For You are the glory of their strength,
And in Your favor our [c]horn is exalted.

sie werden über deinen Namen täglich fröhlich sein und in deiner Gerechtigkeit herrlich sein.

For our shield belongs to the Lord,
And our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Denn du bist der Ruhm ihrer Stärke, und durch deine Gnade wirst du unser Horn erhöhen.

Then You spoke in a vision to Your [d]holy one,
And said: “I have given help to one who is mighty;
I have exalted one chosen from the people.

Denn des HERRN ist unser Schild, und des Heiligen in Israel ist unser König.

I have found My servant David;
With My holy oil I have anointed him,

Dazumal redetest du im Gesicht zu deinem Heiligen und sprachst: »Ich habe einen Helden erweckt, der helfen soll; ich habe erhöht einen Auserwählten aus dem Volk.

With whom My hand shall be established;
Also My arm shall strengthen him.

Ich habe gefunden meinen Knecht David; ich habe ihn gesalbt mit meinem heiligen Öl.

The enemy shall not [e]outwit him,
Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

Meine Hand soll ihn erhalten und mein Arm soll ihn stärken.

I will beat down his foes before his face,
And plague those who hate him.

Die Feinde sollen ihn nicht überwältigen, und die Ungerechten sollen ihn nicht dämpfen;

“But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him,
And in My name his horn shall be exalted.

sondern ich will seine Widersacher schlagen vor ihm her, und die ihn hassen, will ich plagen;

Also I will set his hand over the sea,
And his right hand over the rivers.

aber meine Wahrheit und Gnade soll bei ihm sein, und sein Horn soll in meinem Namen erhoben werden.

He shall cry to Me, ‘You are my Father,
My God, and the rock of my salvation.’

Ich will seine Hand über das Meer stellen und seine Rechte über die Wasser.

Also I will make him My firstborn,
The highest of the kings of the earth.

Er wird mich nennen also: Du bist mein Vater, mein Gott und Hort, der mir hilft.

My mercy I will keep for him forever,
And My covenant shall stand firm with him.

Und ich will ihn zum ersten Sohn machen, allerhöchst unter den Königen auf Erden.

His seed also I will make to endure forever,
And his throne as the days of heaven.

Ich will ihm ewiglich bewahren meine Gnade, und mein Bund soll ihm fest bleiben.

“If his sons forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,

Ich will ihm ewiglich Samen geben und seinen Stuhl, solange der Himmel währt, erhalten.

If they [f]break My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,

Wo aber seine Kinder mein Gesetz verlassen und in meinen Rechten nicht wandeln,

Then I will punish their transgression with the rod,
And their iniquity with stripes.

so sie meine Ordnungen entheiligen und meine Gebote nicht halten,

Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not [g]utterly take from him,
Nor [h]allow My faithfulness to fail.

so will ich ihre Sünde mit der Rute heimsuchen und ihre Missetat mit Plagen;

My covenant I will not break,
Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.

aber meine Gnade will ich nicht von ihm wenden und meine Wahrheit nicht lassen trügen.

Once I have sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David:

Ich will meinen Bund nicht entheiligen, und nicht ändern, was aus meinem Munde gegangen ist.

His seed shall endure forever,
And his throne as the sun before Me;

Ich habe einmal geschworen bei meiner Heiligkeit, ich will David nicht lügen:

It shall be established forever like the moon,
Even like the faithful witness in the sky.” Selah

Sein Same soll ewig sein und sein Stuhl vor mir wie die Sonne;

But You have cast off and abhorred,[i]
You have been furious with Your [j]anointed.

wie der Mond soll er ewiglich erhalten sein, und gleich wie der Zeuge in den Wolken gewiß sein.« (Sela.)

You have renounced the covenant of Your servant;
You have [k]profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

Aber nun verstößest du und verwirfst und zürnest mit deinem Gesalbten.

You have broken down all his hedges;
You have brought his [l]strongholds to ruin.

Du zerstörst den Bund deines Knechtes und trittst seine Krone zu Boden.

All who pass by the way plunder him;
He is a reproach to his neighbors.

Du zerreißest alle seine Mauern und lässest seine Festen zerbrechen.

You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have made all his enemies rejoice.

Es berauben ihn alle, die vorübergehen; er ist seinen Nachbarn ein Spott geworden.

You have also turned back the edge of his sword,
And have not sustained him in the battle.

Du erhöhest die Rechte seiner Widersacher und erfreuest alle seine Feinde.

You have made his [m]glory cease,
And cast his throne down to the ground.

Auch hast du die Kraft seines Schwerts weggenommen und lässest ihn nicht siegen im Streit.

The days of his youth You have shortened;
You have covered him with shame. Selah

Du zerstörst seine Reinigkeit und wirfst seinen Stuhl zu Boden.

How long, Lord?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your wrath burn like fire?

Du verkürzest die Zeit seiner Jugend und bedeckest ihn mit Hohn. (Sela.)

Remember how short my time is;
For what futility have You created all the children of men?

HERR, wie lange willst du dich so gar verbergen und deinen Grimm wie Feuer brennen lassen?

What man can live and not [n]see death?
Can he deliver his life from the power of [o]the grave? Selah

Gedenke, wie kurz mein Leben ist. Warum willst du alle Menschen umsonst geschaffen haben?

Lord, where are Your former lovingkindnesses,
Which You swore to David in Your truth?

Wo ist jemand, der da lebt und den Tod nicht sähe? der seine Seele errette aus des Todes Hand? (Sela.)

Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants —
How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,

HERR, wo ist deine vorige Gnade, die du David geschworen hast in deiner Wahrheit?

With which Your enemies have reproached, O Lord,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your [p]anointed.

Gedenke, HERR, an die Schmach deiner Knechte, die ich trage in meinem Schoß von so vielen Völkern allen,

Blessed be the Lord forevermore!
Amen and Amen.

mit der, HERR, deine Feinde schmähen, mit der sie schmähen die Fußtapfen deines Gesalbten.
