Elija entgegnete: Nicht ich habe Israel ins Verderben gestürzt, sondern du und das Haus deines Vaters, weil ihr die Gebote des HERRN übertreten habt und du den Baalen nachgelaufen bist.

Er aber sprach: Ich verwirre Israel nicht, sondern Du und deines Vaters Haus, damit daß ihr des HERRN Gebote verlassen habt und wandelt den Baalim nach.

Elia widersprach: »Nicht ich bin an dem Unheil schuld, sondern du und deine Familie! Ihr macht euch nichts mehr aus den Geboten des HERRN. Stattdessen wirfst du dich dem Götzen Baal an den Hals und verehrst seine Statuen.
