Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.

Sie schickte einen Boten zu Elija und ließ ihm sagen: Die Götter sollen mir dies und das antun, wenn ich morgen um diese Zeit dein Leben nicht dem Leben eines jeden von ihnen gleichmache.
Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and even more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.”
Elija geriet in Angst, machte sich auf und ging weg, um sein Leben zu retten. Er kam nach Beerscheba in Juda und ließ dort seinen Diener zurück.
And he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
Er selbst ging eine Tagereise weit in die Wüste hinein. Dort setzte er sich unter einen Ginsterstrauch und wünschte sich den Tod. Er sagte: Nun ist es genug, HERR. Nimm mein Leben; denn ich bin nicht besser als meine Väter.
But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O LORD, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.”
Dann legte er sich unter den Ginsterstrauch und schlief ein. Doch ein Engel rührte ihn an und sprach: Steh auf und iss!
He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat.”
Als er um sich blickte, sah er neben seinem Kopf Brot, das in glühender Asche gebacken war, und einen Krug mit Wasser. Er aß und trank und legte sich wieder hin.
Then he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again.
Doch der Engel des HERRN kam zum zweiten Mal, rührte ihn an und sprach: Steh auf und iss! Sonst ist der Weg zu weit für dich.
The angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.”
Da stand er auf, aß und trank und wanderte, durch diese Speise gestärkt, vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte bis zum Gottesberg Horeb.
So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.
Dort ging er in eine Höhle, um darin zu übernachten. Doch das Wort des HERRN erging an ihn: Was willst du hier, Elija?

Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Er sagte: Mit leidenschaftlichem Eifer bin ich für den HERRN, den Gott der Heerscharen, eingetreten, weil die Israeliten deinen Bund verlassen, deine Altäre zerstört und deine Propheten mit dem Schwert getötet haben. Ich allein bin übrig geblieben und nun trachten sie auch mir nach dem Leben.
He said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
Der HERR antwortete: Komm heraus und stell dich auf den Berg vor den HERRN! Da zog der HERR vorüber: Ein starker, heftiger Sturm, der die Berge zerriss und die Felsen zerbrach, ging dem HERRN voraus. Doch der HERR war nicht im Sturm. Nach dem Sturm kam ein Erdbeben. Doch der HERR war nicht im Erdbeben.
So He said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
Nach dem Beben kam ein Feuer. Doch der HERR war nicht im Feuer. Nach dem Feuer kam ein sanftes, leises Säuseln.
After the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle blowing.
Als Elija es hörte, hüllte er sein Gesicht in den Mantel, trat hinaus und stellte sich an den Eingang der Höhle.
When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Da vernahm er eine Stimme, die ihm zurief: Was willst du hier, Elija? Er antwortete: Mit Leidenschaft bin ich für den HERRN, den Gott der Heerscharen, eingetreten, weil die Israeliten deinen Bund verlassen, deine Altäre zerstört und deine Propheten mit dem Schwert getötet haben. Ich allein bin übrig geblieben und nun trachten sie auch mir nach dem Leben.

Der HERR antwortete ihm: Geh deinen Weg durch die Wüste zurück und begib dich nach Damaskus! Bist du dort angekommen, salbe Hasaël zum König über Aram!
The LORD said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you have arrived, you shall anoint Hazael king over Aram;
Jehu, den Sohn Nimschis, sollst du zum König von Israel salben und Elischa, den Sohn Schafats aus Abel-Mehola, salbe zum Propheten an deiner Stelle.
and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.
So wird es geschehen: Wer dem Schwert Hasaëls entrinnt, den wird Jehu töten. Und wer dem Schwert Jehus entrinnt, den wird Elischa töten.
“It shall come about, the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death.
Ich werde in Israel siebentausend übrig lassen, alle, deren Knie sich vor dem Baal nicht gebeugt und deren Mund ihn nicht geküsst hat.
“Yet I will leave 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
Als Elija von dort weggegangen war, traf er Elischa, den Sohn Schafats. Er war gerade mit zwölf Gespannen am Pflügen und er selbst pflügte mit dem zwölften. Im Vorbeigehen warf Elija seinen Mantel über ihn.
So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, while he was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed over to him and threw his mantle on him.
Sogleich verließ Elischa die Rinder, eilte Elija nach und bat ihn: Lass mich noch meinem Vater und meiner Mutter den Abschiedskuss geben; dann werde ich dir folgen. Elija antwortete: Geh, kehr um! Denn was habe ich dir getan?
He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
Elischa ging von ihm weg, nahm seine zwei Rinder und schlachtete sie. Mit dem Joch der Rinder kochte er das Fleisch und setzte es den Leuten zum Essen vor. Dann stand er auf, folgte Elija und trat in seinen Dienst.
So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the implements of the oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah and ministered to him.
