    Dies hat GOTT, der Herr, mich sehen lassen: Siehe, da war einer, der einen Heuschreckenschwarm formte, als die Spätsaat zu wachsen begann. Und siehe, die Spätsaat folgt auf den Schnitt für den König.

    Vision of the Locusts

    Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the [a]beginning of the late crop; indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings.

    Sie machten sich daran, alles Grün im Land zu vertilgen. Da rief ich: Herr und GOTT, vergib doch! Wie kann Jakob bestehen? Er ist ja so klein.

    And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:
    “O Lord God, forgive, I pray!
    Oh,[b] that Jacob may stand,
    For he is small!”

    Da hatte der HERR Mitleid: Es wird nicht geschehen — sprach der HERR.

    So the Lord relented concerning this.
    “It shall not be,” said the Lord.

    Dies hat GOTT, der Herr, mich sehen lassen: Siehe, da rief jemand einen Angriff mit Feuer herbei, Herr und GOTT, und es fraß die große Urflut und wollte das Ackerland verschlingen.

    Vision of the Fire

    Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, the Lord God called [c]for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the [d]territory.

    Da rief ich: Herr und GOTT, halte doch ein! Wie kann Jakob bestehen? Er ist ja so klein.

    Then I said:
    “O Lord God, cease, I pray!
    Oh, that Jacob may stand,
    For he is small!”

    Da hatte der HERR Mitleid: Auch das wird nicht geschehen — sprach GOTT, der Herr.

    So the Lord relented concerning this.
    “This also shall not be,” said the Lord God.

    Dies hat er mich sehen lassen: Siehe, der Herr stand auf einer Mauer aus Zinn und in seiner Hand war Zinn.

    Vision of the Plumb Line

    Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand.

    Und der HERR fragte mich: Was siehst du, Amos? Ich antwortete: Zinn. Da sagte der Herr: Siehe, ich lege Zinn in die Mitte meines Volkes Israel. Ich gehe nicht noch einmal an ihm vorüber.

    And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
    And I said, “A plumb line.”
    Then the Lord said:
    “Behold, I am setting a plumb line
    In the midst of My people Israel;
    I will not pass by them anymore.

    Isaaks Kulthöhen werden verwüstet und Israels Heiligtümer zerstört; mit dem Schwert erhebe ich mich gegen das Haus Jerobeam.

    The [e]high places of Isaac shall be desolate,
    And the [f]sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.
    I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

    Amazja, der Priester von Bet-El, sandte zu Jerobeam, dem König von Israel, und ließ ihm sagen: Mitten im Haus Israel hat sich Amos gegen dich verschworen; seine Worte sind unerträglich für das Land.

    Amaziah’s Complaint

    Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to [g]bear all his words.

    Denn so sagt Amos: Jerobeam stirbt durch das Schwert und Israel muss in die Verbannung ziehen, fort von seinem Boden.

    For thus Amos has said:
    ‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
    And Israel shall surely be led away captive
    From their own land.’ ”

    Zu Amos aber sagte Amazja: Seher, geh, flieh ins Land Juda! Iss dort dein Brot und prophezeie dort!

    Then Amaziah said to Amos:
    “Go, you seer!
    Flee to the land of Judah.
    There eat bread,
    And there prophesy.

    In Bet-El darfst du nicht mehr prophezeien; denn das hier ist das königliche Heiligtum und der Reichstempel.

    But never again prophesy at Bethel,
    For it is the king’s [h]sanctuary,
    And it is the royal [i]residence.”

    Amos antwortete Amazja: Ich bin kein Prophet und kein Prophetenschüler, sondern ich bin ein Viehhirte und veredle Maulbeerfeigen.

    Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:
    “I was no prophet,
    Nor was I a son of a prophet,
    But I was a sheepbreeder
    And a tender of sycamore fruit.

    Aber der HERR hat mich hinter meiner Herde weggenommen und zu mir gesagt: Geh und prophezeie meinem Volk Israel!

    Then the Lord took me [j]as I followed the flock,
    And the Lord said to me,
    ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’
  • 16
    Darum höre jetzt das Wort des HERRN! Du sagst: Prophezeie nicht gegen Israel und geifere nicht gegen das Haus Isaak!

    Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord:
    You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
    And do not [k]spout against the house of Isaac.’

    Darum — so spricht der HERR: Deine Frau wird zur Hure in der Stadt, deine Söhne und Töchter fallen unter dem Schwert, dein Boden wird mit der Messschnur verteilt, du selbst stirbst auf unreinem Boden und Israel muss in die Verbannung ziehen, fort von seinem Boden.

    “Therefore thus says the Lord:
    ‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;
    Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
    Your land shall be divided by survey line;
    You shall die in a defiled land;
    And Israel shall surely be led away captive
    From his own land.’ ”
